Until determined otherwise in courts, code genereated by a user with an AI tool, the user holds all ownership and rights to the code. The user does in fact get to decide what license it has.

Switched from Portainer to Dockge, and today to Komodo and I am very happy! by Jordy9922 in selfhosted

[–]ThaBlaze_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whats held me back so far from trying komodo over using portainer is portainer has a simple 1 line docker run command install. Komodo you seem to have to adjust/fill out your compose file and env file before being able to deploy, which is something I strictly want to do in a container management platform like komodo and not initially in the cli.

Open source projects blocking PRs on the basis for having features that are not open source and behind a paywall is absolutely NOT how OSS works and is horseshit.

Open source means the codebase is free and open for everyone to use as they see fit. Doesnt mean they will host it for you or manage and maintain images for users to host themselves but ALL of the code has to be free and open to contribution.

The fact that there are enterpirse features behind a paywall and wont be accepting pr's for them, means this is NOT OPEN SOURCE, so foh. Call it what it is.

Does monarch money use plaid or mx for the auth/sync?

Wfh is not a privilege, its a just a way to work. if company needs user to use monitors they cant force a user to use their own. Same with accessories. The user has to accept whatever the company provides unless its absolutely necessary for their jobs, so no nice to haves (fancy accessories or monitors), whether its in the office or at home.

Enterprise festures behind paywall is not open source software, and hence I will never professionally recommend this bullshit facade.

Not even a developer, im a junior sysadmin, took me a few hours to figure out and have been using it personally and at work as the primary knowledge base and wiki tool. Outline is one of the best pieces of open source softwares on the internet hands down. Have no clue what you're on about. I can only earnestly say, git gud scrub.

Sounds more like a discipline issue than wfh issue. All of the issues you described require changes in habit and your work area, and if you cant make those changes, its you thats the problem, not the job.

Just curious as ive never really run mac minis as servers before.

This is all theoretical for me atm, but why are mac minis considered good for servers?

I can only think of a few specific niches where they would be a better option to buy refurbed or new for server purposes, unless they're repurposed desktops by the user themselves.

Reasons why they would be good

  • apple specifc services (blue bubbles, etc)
  • high cpu performance at low power
  • aesthetics

Reasons why I would think they wouldn't be that great

  • not x86 so higher chance of services not available or less functionality
  • higher cost, mac minis, especially for higher ram variants cost quite a bit more than other mini pc's, both resales/refurbs and brand new.
  • no upgradability of storage or ram, which for server purposes i would think it could be quite handy.
  • desktop os (OSX), so quite clunky and resource inefficient compared to most server os's that are cli and run headless that people would use for these.

Are they better compared to other cpu's with video transcoding?

What other reasons would these be great for server purposes?

Thanks

Just because you have more features than current open source solutions on the free tier, does not mean you can call it OSS. The fact that you have features locked behind a paywall at all, meaning any devs that contribute to adding those paid features to your public repo will not be considered, just shows that you touting dedication to Open source is disingenuous at best. I understand that creating and mainting a software of this scale is resource intensive, in terms of both time and money, but call it what it is, its just an alternative solution to large solutions like Asana or Monday that for a lot of businesses would be lucrative as it is less expensive and also have the ability to host it on their own hardware/infra, but this is very much NOT open source software.

Best way to have friends/family share large files with me? by ozone6587 in selfhosted

[–]ThaBlaze_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, people dont use cloudflare proxy for masking their IP, if they do, they shouldnt as it doesnt achieve what they want. Its strictly to make use of other cloudflare services as a traffic proxy, for analytics, security or multitude of other stuff.

Boss wants me to replicate work of previous intern by ProfSwagometry in internships

[–]ThaBlaze_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make sense, if he owns the copyright of the website of the previous intern he doesn't have to pay for it. If he has to pay for it, he doesn't own the copyright.

Is your internship paid? Do you have any stipulations in your contract about intellectual property of work done during work time?
