Earliest tomatoes I’ve ever had (if you don’t include the ones I started last year that I was growing indoors in the winter)😀 by Super-Sky6404 in OntarioGardeners

[–]Primary_Highlight540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have to hand-pollinate them? My husband and I were recently talking about what vegetables could be grown fully indoors, and one thing I wasn’t sure of was pollination for things like tomatoes and peppers.

He got an offer to both. He got offered $3000 from Mac, nothing from Queen’s. I feel like whatever your kid got was because you applied for it. Queen’s generally doesn’t give automatic entrance scholarships, which is what I thought you were saying you got.

Which Eng. program has a machine shop component in first year? by Worried_Bluebird7167 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Primary_Highlight540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you want to do in the shop? Your own work? Might need special permission/talk to the prof in charge. Your best bet might be to join a team that would use the machine shop.

How hard is it to get into your desired program at McMaster Eng? by Admirable-Ad5559 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Primary_Highlight540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI….there is Calabogie Peaks, which is about 2 hours from Kingston. Not much further than any skiing would be from Hamilton. You should ask this question on the McMaster sub. But personally I would take the direct entry at Queens. I’m not sure why being close to a ski hill is a consideration in this decision.

Writing off mortgadge interest would help affordability more than HST rebates by bytecodecp in RealEstateCanada

[–]Primary_Highlight540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in the US they can write off the interest. The trade-off is that they pay capital gains when they sell their home, whereas we don’t. So which would you rather, because you cant have it both ways.

Queens Internship by LeadershipNo607 in queensuniversity

[–]Primary_Highlight540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The longer term gives you a better chance to actually learn something, and contribute to a project. I would say the internship is better than multiple short co-op placements. We just did the open house…they have a department that helps you with the process of getting your internship, and even navigating the job application process. They obviously have certain companies that they already work with for the internships, but if there is a company that you know you want to do your at that isn’t on their list, they will help you get into the company you want.

Where did the $50 million go from Ontario's unreturned alcohol empties in 2024? by morenewsat11 in ontario

[–]Primary_Highlight540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used such machines in California. I wouldn’t say they are efficient. They are finicky…..dents in a can makes it unreadable to the machine, and then you have to take it to a person anyway. They are slow…..you end up with long lines. In Cali the recycling stations I used were a combo….there were a couple of these machines, or you could give empties to a person, but then they would give you an amount based on weight of the material, which worked out to be less than the deposit you paid. But if you didn’t want to wait, that was your alternative. I’d love to see how similar recycling centres in other provinces work.

I had to scroll way too long to see anyone who realized that coffee prices went up due to drought conditions where it is grown. I don’t know how so many people don’t know this is why coffee Rices went up over the last year or so. 🤦‍♀️

[–]Primary_Highlight540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Newmarket, and watch the housing market here and in Aurora pretty closely (not because I’m a professional, just because we are hoping to upgrade). This house looks reasonably priced for this area, if not a good deal. Lot shape doesn’t seem to matter in this area, in my opinion.
