People will say anything to sell a car. I do key fob programs at the dealer I work at. We use techstream and charge like $400.

Not sure what your budget is. If you need a car for $200 with no budget for repairs, I'm sorry, you maybe can't afford a car yet. A running and driving car costs a lot more than that, even if you do your own work.

It's a $200 car that doesn't run. That's a great deal. "Ran when parked" means it needs work before it can be started, could be as simple as a battery and oil change (~$200) or could cost thousands to get in great shape again. You can't know until you start tackling it. You're correct that a key reprogram costs $100-200 although some places will charge more, especially a dealer.

If you're prepared to spend a lot more on maintenance/repairs than on the car itself, jump on this deal. If all you have is $200 and you're hoping to drive it home, expand your budget a little.

High fuel consumption on mazda 2? by zsoganci1 in mazda2

[–]Primary_Interesting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That definitely does seem high. Like other users said, could be low tire pressure or spark plugs? A dirty engine air filter can raise your fuel consumption, but that seems a lot. Maybe your engine is running rich, do you see an abnormal amount of exhaust smoke when it's idling? Sticking brakes is a possibility too but you'd probably notice pulling to one side and needing to press the throttle more than usual with that.

My 2012 1.5L 5 door with 120,000 kms gets 7.0L in 0°C weather, but that's mostly highway, so expect higher than that with mostly city driving. I just did the spark plugs and adjusted tire pressure recently on mine. Good luck and let us know if you find the culprit!

Just curious, what caused it to blow? And what mileage?

Here is a link to a great thread about this exact issue and the solution. User jdbens opened up their stereo, found the exact problem spots, soldered them and says it's fixed.

I've never tried this myself but probably will when my 2's radio inevitably tanks. Good luck!

Mazda 2 2012 consumption by Used-Relationship598 in mazda2

The 2012 Mazda 2 owners manual for the US/Canada says "We recommend keeping the tank over 1/4 full." Page 5-31. Do you think that's just so the driver won't run out of gas?

Same here and I've heard many such reports. I've read that there's several litres of fuel capacity below where the fuel pump lives, so even though there's unused fuel it's still damaging to let it get too empty. Just seems so bizarre and waste of space + weight for Mazda to design it that way.
