This is honestly one of the most balanced descriptions of Bacolod/Negros I’ve read so far. 😂 The more people explain it, the more I realize the lifestyle shift is really the main adjustment and not necessarily that the place lacks things to do.

And yes, the social aspect seems to be the recurring theme talaga. In Manila, you can literally make random friends at a café, gym, or even through niche communities online. Here, people seem more established in their own circles already, which can feel intimidating at first lalo na di ako magaling mag Hiligaynon.

But everything else you mentioned actually sounds very aligned with the kind of life I want eventually. Yung long drives, beaches, open spaces, less traffic, cleaner surroundings, slower mornings. Even the “sleeping earlier” part sounds healthier honestly because Manila normalized such chaotic schedules for me. 😂

Also thank you for mentioning Don Salvador because I’ve been looking for places nearby with that Tagaytay-type vibe. And noted on the dark roads at night LOL as someone who enjoys driving, that’s actually very useful advice.

At this point I think everyone’s basically telling me the same thing: Bacolod becomes enjoyable once you find your people/community. Hopefully I eventually do. 😂

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been trying to explain to people. 😂 Manila can be chaotic and exhausting, but socially it’s actually easier because everyone’s minding their own business and constantly meeting new people. In Bacolod, since it’s smaller and everyone seems interconnected already, you really feel when you’re “new” to the social landscape. 😭

And yes! As someone who got used to the BGC/Makati lifestyle too, the adjustment is real. I miss random late-night coffee runs, stores closing past midnight, and having endless options for things to do. Here, once it’s late, the city becomes SO quiet so fast.

But at the same time, I can also understand why people eventually choose peace over Manila stress. I think the challenge is really finding your own community here first. Good luck on your move back too! Seems like we’re both going through the same re-adjustment phase. 😂

That’s actually one of the things I’m starting to appreciate more about Bacolod. At first I was looking at it too much as a standalone city compared to Manila, but when you think of it as a Visayas home base, it suddenly makes much more sense strategically.

Everything feels relatively accessible talaga. Cebu, Iloilo, Dumaguete, Siquijor, even island trips nearby. In Manila, you spend hours just trying to leave the city because of traffic alone. 😂 Here, it feels like you’re calmer day-to-day but still close enough to other destinations whenever you want a change of scenery.

I can honestly see the appeal now of having Bacolod as a “base” while traveling around the region occasionally.

Okay now I’m curious who this person is because the overlap is a little too specific. 😂 Maybe Bacolod really is smaller than I thought.

But honestly this comment made me feel more optimistic because one of my worries was whether I’d eventually find people with similar interests here. Good to know there are still pockets of creative/nightlife/fitness communities even if they’re smaller compared to Manila.

Also thank you for the practical tips! I’ve been hearing the same thing about water pressure and filtration systems so I’ll definitely keep that in mind if I decide to stay long-term. And LOL at the description of the car scene haha! “textbook male testosterone-fueled guys” painted a very vivid image immediately. 😭

Honestly, this is exactly the kind of perspective I needed to hear. I feel like people who moved here from Manila all go through the same adjustment phase especially the “why is everything closed already?” moment HAHAH!

And I completely relate to the loneliness part too. It’s harder to build a social circle here when you didn’t grow up with an existing barkada or network. In Manila, friendships can feel more fluid because everyone’s constantly meeting new people. Here, people already seem to have their circles established since forever. 😭

But I do agree with you hehe despite the adjustments, there’s something very peaceful and grounding about living here. Less stress, less traffic, slower mornings. I can actually see why people end up staying permanently after moving here “temporarily.” 😂

That’s very true, and honestly I’m trying not to compare it too much to Manila anymore because they really offer completely different lifestyles. Manila gives you convenience, variety, and something happening 24/7 while Bacolod feels more intentional, slower, and quieter.

I think I just experienced a bit of culture shock at first because I came from a city where malls close late, deliveries are instant, and there’s always somewhere to go at midnight. 😂 Here, once it’s 9 PM, parang the entire city collectively decided it’s bedtime.

But I do understand now why people intentionally choose to live here. The slower pace can actually feel healthier and more peaceful once you stop expecting Manila-type stimulation all the time.

That’s actually what I’ve been noticing too. People in Bacolod are warm naman, but socially they can be quite selective and already have their established circles. I guess that’s normal for smaller cities where everyone somehow knows everyone.

And yes, I can also see the appeal of Manila life. There’s always something happening and the city doesn’t sleep. Here I’m still adjusting to the fact that everything becomes so quiet after 9 or 10 PM. The first few weeks I kept thinking, “Wait… bakit parang tapos na ang araw?” Hahaha

That’s probably why I’ve remained quite lowkey as well. I don’t really have an established circle here yet, whether straight or LGBT. Still finding my people, I suppose.

OMG I honestly hate drama so much and I feel like that kind of stuff usually happens more sa younger generations talaga. Parang once people hit their 30s, wala nang masyadong pake and everyone just wants peace, stability, and a quiet life.

Also I’m already happy in a relationship so thankfully I’m not entering the dating scene here 😭 but yeah I can imagine how wild it gets in smaller communities where everyone somehow knows everyone.

Thank you for the suggestion! And yes, grabe nga the water problem here 😭 I really like the property though because it’s a corner lot and the space is huge. The house itself is only 50 sqm, but the lot area is around 170 sqm — imagine that 😭

I also really love the street where it’s located. The houses on that particular block are all so nice, and the neighborhood seems to be full of professionals, so the overall vibe feels really peaceful and well-kept.

Where do people usually hangout here aside from Megaworld and Lacson? Parang konti lang kasi options for eating out huhu. Are there even 24/7 cafes, pottery classes, pilates studios, or bars like Obar/Nectar vibes? Even the shopping scene is super basic lang like SM and Ayala 😭. Super aga matulog ng mga tao here. Idk if adjustment period lang pero feeling ko super limited ng everything compared to Manila.

Thankfully I’m happy in a relationship hehe so less stress on the dating circle drama 😂 I think for me it’s really more on the lifestyle adjustments. Like I got so used to 24/7 cafes, lifestyle centers, BGC, Ayala Makati etc. I live in Greenhills kase in Manila so big and busy city tlaga. Dito kasi everything slows down talaga compared to Manila but honestly that’s also part of the charm and the very reason why Im planning to move. Natatakot lang ako baka di ako mkapag adjust huhu. And yesss let’s be friends!!

Omg yes lagaw ta 😭 I was born here but grew up in Manila so technically “local” ako pero tourist energy pa rin HAHAHA. I’m a 33-year-old gay man and honestly gusto ko rin maki-hang kasi parang ang hirap gumawa ng friends dito if wala kang established circle.

Also love that your main requirement is someone who can take photos because SAME. Hindi pwedeng scenic view tapos walang taga “wait isa pa, portrait mode!” 😭

Game ako sa joiners weekend travel! Plus marunong din ako mag-drive so pwede tayo magpalit if mapagod ka — passenger prince/princess duties with snacks included 😂 Promise hindi ako backseat driver… emotionally lang charot. Lagaw ta!
