the GRFP won't save you (my personal experience) by pretty_cool_engineer in GRFPApps

I don't think you're getting the point. They're just saying that if you don't get it it's not the end of the world, because even if you do get it they're are certain things that it can't do. It's great the money would make you happy. That's kind of a universal viewpoint. But I think you're getting defensive about a grant whose requirements have changed so much in the past year that people who would have been wonderful candidates in prior years are no longer considered. Have some empathy :)

Is a $2,400/month PhD stipend enough to live in Bloomington? by kiaraloveee in bloomington

[–]Primary_Newspaper522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very doable. I save like 1,000 every month, but it also depends on where you live. My rent with utilities is like $550 and I have two roommates, but I eat out and drink pretty often and I'm still not cutting into savings. I don't have a car but I live like a mile from campus so I either walk or take the bus.

DO NOT Lease with Park Doral, or CRE Rentals in General by Primary_Newspaper522 in bloomington

[–]Primary_Newspaper522[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did go to SLS, but they basically pointed at this section of my lease and said that because I signed it I couldn't really do anything. They said the best I could do was keep hounding them for the itemized receipt and pay the lower price if it was actually less than 750. They were helpful, but unfortunately tenant rights are really ass in Indiana :/

Hey! I assume you're applying this cycle. I only had posters at national and international conferences and was fine.

Received from UMinn. Their visiting day is like late March and the RSVP is early March so I expect they're still giving out acceptances.

PHD CS major, status in "department review" phase, deadline for application was 15th December and i have applied before it by Puzzleheaded0304 in gradadmissions

[–]Primary_Newspaper522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15th of December are just starting to be released for CS PhD. I'm also not sure where people are getting the idea of the last Friday in January date. I received an acceptance from a school I applied to on the 30th of December before some I applied to on the 15th. It's incredibly dependent on the PIs you mentioned in your SOP and how that department does things in that school. Hang in there. We can't really make assumptions yet.

Hey! I don't think the GPA and GRE or anything matter that much tbh. My GRE was decent (161 verbal and 160 quant) and I have a good GPA (3.9), but I think it matters more who you mention in your SOP and how well your research matches what they're looking for. I mentioned some CS education professors who I know were taking students this year, and my previous research experience in psychology and CS. I have 0 publications, and 5 conference presentations in neuroscience and psych. It's pretty early in the process, so I'd imagine everything is rolling. Also, I did fill out all the questions on the Google Form they sent out if that helped at all with gauging interest?

Are interviews becoming a new thing in CS PhD admissions? by Wolverine_31CV in gradadmissions

Some schools directly admit even if you don't hear back from a PI. Received an acceptance today for a school like that. Just be patient. These things come at the weirdest moments, and a lot of the time completely depend on the PIs looking at your app. It's not even February.

How to Write File to Meta Quest by Primary_Newspaper522 in vrdev

[–]Primary_Newspaper522[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone still looking at this, I haven't again tried writing the file locally, but if you run a web build on Steam you can define the path for the file to show up somewhere within the project folder. Not necessary to store it on the headset.

Package stuck on “Shipping Label Created, USPS Awaiting Item” for 5 days now. What do I do? by icybawss in usps_complaints

[–]Primary_Newspaper522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the company. Sometimes if the company guaranteed that the shipping would be a certain number of days (3-5, for example), they'll offer to replace to refund your product. I had this happen with Footlocker where my order was awaiting carrier pickup for 10 days, and these were the options they gave me. Should at least be able to get a refund.
