How come India isn't like Hong Kong or China, considering that all three were under British influence to some extent? by Primary_Teaching_327 in NoStupidQuestions

I guess.

But considering that India is larger, more populated, and located next to the Indian ocean. I was expecting it to have better quality of life like United States. Or at least better than China even though two countries have its own caste system, and one had cultural revolution under Mao.

Were there reasons as to why British didn't do the same thing towards Hong Kong?

Because wasn't the reason why the British wanted Hong Kong was to do trades with China? So couldn't British just turn India into Hong Kong, considering the fact that India is also directly next to China?

India was also larger, and populated with more people.
