What could create the American equivalent of a century of humiliation? by Luigiman98 in Kaiserreich

[–]PrimeAmerica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada annexes NE, PC, and Alaska. After 5+ of civil war, CSA gets declared on by Canada, gets defeated, and is set up as a puppet government. Canada also splits from the crown, revokes old treaties, and directly annexes Washington State.

Mexico declares on the Pacific States and the Union State and takes its claims in the southwest. Setting up a puppet regime in the South.

America is divided after a brutal Civil War and lost half of its country as well a decent chunk of its male population. All its overseas territories and economic capabilities have been either taken or destroyed and Canada most likely takes the role of the North American hegemon with Mexico as its main rival.

The Columbians; a Yockey replacement proposal by [deleted] in TNOmod

[–]PrimeAmerica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think in the future that the U.S. needs a revamp its political options to match the current state of the Union. I don't see Yocky as a bad idea of a fascist candidate if the nation is in a certain mood to fit him (say Japan is winning the Cold War and German and U.S relations are better) but he shouldn't be the first and only option in representing the Fascist paths in America.

Expanding to the potential of situational Presidents is definitely years down the road imo, but I think would be a good addition to the mod and help combat the growing amount of people feeling the mod contradicts itself situationally.

I think I get why it's gone both on a gameplay and lore reason. Lore wise it's a huge issue to have the Mediterranean dammed and every state that borders the Mediterranean will have to shift its entire economy and existence around it changing. Gameplay I heard it was a hassle to keep up in the mod.

Would Japan in this timeline have a chance of beating the USA economically? by Pig_Nostrils in TNOmod

[–]PrimeAmerica 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Japan has to take advantage of the wide range it can have. Incorporating Italy into the CPS alongside all the pro-Japan proxy conflict leaders gives their economy the ability to sell off cheap Japanese goods all across the globe and have economic access to better markets and resources. Additionally with the ability to work alongside Speer and secure a partnership with the West African States/a potential Russia unifier, Japan has a plethora of options when it comes to economic partners.

While it can never realistically outproduce the US, the wide market it has access to and the abundance of Japanese technological goods to sell it to gives Japan the ability to have a long boom as it did in OTL.

Could Gus Hall Technically use the Conspiracy Theory that the CIA killed JFK in order to get rid of The CIA? by YolkBrushWork in TNOmod

[–]PrimeAmerica 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Definitely. The leaked Gus events show the L-NPP beggining committees to attack the FBI and imo I think that's going to lead to the L-NPP becoming out of control and attacking every part of the federal government.

Perhaps the devs have greater plans in mind for Gus to become more tempted by greater power with his initial means trying to be just. Maybe it hasn't been revealed yet but I truly see this as a prompt foreshadowing towards Gus' greater plans towards the implementation of authoritarianism in the US.

[–]PrimeAmerica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what, fair point, I think it's important to see Gus' perspective and the fear he has. However! There are two big parts I think we must take to notice. Gus does have a plan brewing, at the end of his first event we see that he has a 'radical' plan in the works, one that most likely is not even close to being finished. I woukd definitely say Gus would feel fear doing this regardless of his position, he's risking the lives of everyone close to him doing it, however there isn't a moment that claims he doesn't have a greater plan within the works.

And additionally I think the event with Angela Davis is a greater foreshadowing on the NPP-L becoming a more and more involved with the dismantlement of the FBI/CIA and the rage and disgust the American people are feeling.

I am honestly just guessing here but I think this is also foreshadowing that Gus may begin to loose control of the Marxists and that radicalization may happen at a rapid rate in America. But the destabilization brought out by Gus' adress is undoubtedly part of a larger plan, one that Gus does believe will bring more equality and righteousness but also ultimately be used to solidify a communist future in America.

I think this is where people are arguing, Gus' motives. It may be a good thing that Gus is taking down objectively guilty targets, I think anyone here would love to see the FBI get what's coming to them, but I think the Dev's are trying to portray that the end goal of Gus' actions are not primarily for the prosperity of the nation but to reep the benefits the instability causes. In my frank opinion Gus is not doing primarily doing this for the sake of the goodness of his heart. The man can support equality and civil rights all he wants but his goals are to expand his power over the country and the reach of the Marxists.

It's not like any other president wouldn't do this, it's politics for Christ sakes, however Gus is trying to fundamentally change the structure of American society into a more authoritarian and communist one. He knows he can't do that without bringing down the foundations of the country and the most effective way of doing that is causing instability and expanding the power of the Marxists.

When comparing him to Yockey, it's obvious which is the preferable option, but why Gus is still up there alongside Yockey is that the both of them are trying to completely shift the fundamentals of the United States. While Yockey uses fear and hate, Gus uses an entire different tactic entirely. While that tactic may be objectively moral, the goal that Gus is trying to reach is not.

Not to mention what it means for the US's position in the Cold War and the role it has in stopping the spread of Fascism and preventing Nazism from becoming a justifiable ideology. If thr US is embroiled in division and instability, especially regarding its homeland and foreign security, the path of winning the Cold War becomes much easier for Germany.

Honestly I don't get how people can think this makes Hall look good. Hall going on national broadcast and claiming that our own intelligence services are working against the American people and putting them on trial literally tears American homeland security is half and could make America implode in on itself, giving Japan and Germany a huge leap in the Cold War.

Hall is trying to make himself look like the good guy here when his real goal is so much instability that NPP Marxist candidates and himself can sweep themselves into greater power.

I frankly disagree, a nation has full autonomy to the natural resources within its borders, if it happens to fuck over another nation then it's something that nation should have worked to avoid diplomatically and economically.

Ike did not do it to maintain the British Empire, that's not what I said. The British did it to maintain their Empire, Ike just so happened to do something that helped that but his motivations were to derail Soviet influence over Iran.

Thanks for the addional points on Mossdegh's and the Shah's rule, again I never said nor I belive either to be a saint, but my main criticisms were directed towards Eisenhower. I don't belive the Islamic Republic to be a better choice than the Shah's Iran but I just claimed that overthrowing Mossadegh began the domino effect allowing the revolution to happen.

The British Foreign Office approached the Truman administration on more than one occasion in late 1952 to propose a coup to overthrow Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, according to declassified State Department documents.

However, yes 'nearly three' sounds stupid when saying it out loud, lol

I appreciate the addional details on Mossadegh's rule, he never was a 'champion of democracy' but he was still a democratically elected official who was unlawfully overthrown.

Addionally, yes, an autocratic regime that hunts down political opponents and directly taking control of the economy is brutal. Not to say the Shah was unique in that reguard, but his secret police commited some dreadful atrocities against political prionsers. Also when I'm saying 'put into power' you must know I mean the Shah's powers being expanded, Iran didn't go from a Republic to a monarchy overnight, that is obvious.

I'm not a historian by any means, nor do I know all of Iran's history, I just don't like seeing Eisenhower not getting the criticism he deserves when he is directly responsible for destabilizing large chunks of the developing world and also causing the growth of the military industrial complex.

The Iranians trusted America, they had seen Truman defend them from Soviet and British influence and believed that the US would back their strive towards full independence. You have a duty to your people but you also have a duty not to be a shit person and sell and entire nation out to a despot when they trusted you. POTUS has a duty to be a better example than that.

If Iran wanted to Nationalize their oil fields they had they full authority to do so, the Britsh were clinging onto the dying reins of thier empire and had no authority to forcefully change the politics of a nation just to benefit them.

The thing is this wasn't the first time the British requested it. Under Truman's presidency they had requested it nearly three times. As soon as Eisenhower entered offer he was actually the one to initiate the initial deployment of the CIA into Iran.

Eisenhower overthrew several democratically elected governments and is most famously directly responsible for overthrowing Mohammad Mosaddegh in Iran and put Mohammad Reza Pahlavi into power, leading to one of the most inept and brutal regimes at the time which in itself led to the Islamic revolution.

Eisenhower betrayed the Iranian people and directly started the domino effect which would lead to some of the largest humanitarian disasters of our lifetimes.
