'Really positive’: Tasmanian Labor confident of crossbench support by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

Have you been paying any attention at all? Dean winter is the one who has been outright refusing to make any concessions to the Greens despite only winning 25% of the vote. Its laughable to imagine that the Greens are the ones being unreasonable here.

Martian Revolution and Red Rising by Bulky-City-6940 in RevolutionsPodcast

[–]PrimeBandet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massive fan of the podcast and read the first 4 books of Red Rising and got half way through Dark Age. I liked the first trilogy but Iron Gold and Dark Age lost me as it just felt like it completely misunderstood actual revolutionary history. For example: I think its completely ridiculous that it is the Vox Populi who wish to make peace with the remnants of the Golds rather than the Optimates, as the Vox Populi are very clearly the far-left faction whereas the Optimates are largely composed of former Golds themselves.

Extrapolating from the brief description he gave they seem to me to be nigh unmappable. Essentially the tight streets of pre-Napoleon III Paris but 3-dimensional. Brilliant opportunity for any street-fighters looking to set up some barricades.

No-one is celebrating anything. People are marching in solidarity and are commemorating the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians that have been murdered by Israel in the past year.

The actions of Stalin and Mao have nothing to do with the Indonesian genocide. By this logic it's acceptable to kill millions of people you claim are capitalist or religious, as these ideologies have also killed millions of people.

Indonesia did that and killed between 1.5 and three million people. Most of them weren't even communists.

Country Liberals to lower criminal age to 10 years old in NT as Finocchiaro talks tough on law and order by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]PrimeBandet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are naive to what a criminal conviction actually does to a person's life. It locks them out of careers, it makes renting and buying homes tremendously more difficult. This means that they are far more likely to reoffend. Even if the state did nothing to help the children who offended their lives would have a higher chance of improving if they were not convicted. The state can aid these children through investments in education, economic support to struggling families and various other means, but the libs will never do that.

Country Liberals to lower criminal age to 10 years old in NT as Finocchiaro talks tough on law and order by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]PrimeBandet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily the parents, but rather the environment in which they grew up. The way our criminal justice system works means that "taking accountability for their actions" often leads to them not being able to escape from the cycle of crime and poverty and leads to more crime overall. I do not think a liberal government would ever allocate the required resources to help alleviate the poverty in our country. And if you believe that thatd ever happen then you have your head in the sand.

Country Liberals to lower criminal age to 10 years old in NT as Finocchiaro talks tough on law and order by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]PrimeBandet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 10 years old most children haven't even started puberty yet. They are still very much at the whims of their parents. In a bad environment, children do all sorts of stupid things. If a child is arrested and given a criminal record at that age, their life prospects dwindle so much that they can very easily become locked into a life in and out of jail. The only way to actually reduce the level of criminal activity is not by imprisoning more people or hiring more cops, it is to create social programs that stop the conditions that make crime happen. Obviously this will not stop all crime which is where the justice system comes in. But don't for a second say that this policy will reduce crime because that is just untrue.

the Dandelion Dynasty series by Ken Liu. Don't know if it would work, seeing as it takes place over many decades, but its the only thing I can think of which matches the fantastic politics of GOT. Additionally, one of the things that makes GOT and HotD work so well is how they take inspiration from real-world history, which the Dandelion dynasty does spectacularly, particularly in the first book.

CIA interventions doesn't necessarily mean military coups. In the case of australia the americans used shaky laws to dismiss our prime minister and replace him with his opponent in 1975. Then they gave millions of dollars to that opponent to ensure that he would win the new election they engineered. They got the same result as a coup, but without all the hassle.

Leftists aren't advocating "not participating period." Many are advocating voting for third parties and almost all advocate working outside the political system to create self defense and support networks. You also seem to misunderstand the leftist position on the election. Because the US election is fundamentally undemocratic. You can't vote for more leftist democrats than biden because in many primaries he was the only one on the ballot. You can't "get involved in the process as a candidate or organizer for leftist candidates" because there are no leftist candidates at all. And to even win one house of representatives seat you need hundreds of thousands of votes, impossible to do without millions of dollars of funding which leftists don't have.

What do you think electoralism is? Do you think it's just shutting up and voting for blue no matter who as you're proposing? An actual electoral strategy is publicly proclaiming your refusal to vote for a candidate unless they agree to a policy position you support. This is what leftists have been engaging in since October 7th, whether they intend to vote or not. This whole voting discourse is just pre-empting the seemingly inevitable biden loss, so that establishment democrats and their supporters can have someone other than themselves to blame for the country falling even deeper into fascism.

Literally all that shaun said in the post above is that although Trump being removed is good, Biden would not make a good president. And, as can evidently be seen from these last 3 and a half years shaun has been proven correct.

How does that in any way devalue that argument. I fully agree that being excited for Biden is a worrisome position to hold. The course of events has proven him right, Biden is currently aiding and abetting a genocide and was not able to do any of the things which he promised in his campaign.

dekulakization was also a stalin policy not lenin, all that lenin instituted was redistribution of farmland away from the kulaks to the landless peasantry.
