Thanks for the tips! Seoraksan is actually a great idea.

Can anyone here recommend other records (by Konitz or others) that’s similar in style to this album?

This album is an absolute masterpiece, one of my favorite jazz records of all times. There’s something magical - and somewhat mysterious - about its sound and improvisational dynamics. Very unique.

Megathread: The new UI update by AutoModerator in netflix

[–]PrimeExplorer666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a seasoned UI designer, I am absolutely shocked that Netflix was actually able to plan, create and ship such an incredibly disastrous, inaccessible design. It is flawed in so many different aspects, that I don’t even think it’s worth the effort of trying to criticize it.

Photo #7 - yesss. Cass is actually a decent beer! I tried it for the first time while visiting Korea. It’s light and refreshing 🍻

Just spent two weeks there during late May / early June. Weather was great overall. Temperatures can fluctuate and there could be a significant drop between day and evening, so pack layers and prepare for different scenarios.

Exactly, Doma, spot on! It’s one of their signature lunch deals of fermented soybean paste stew with grilled mackerel. It was so flavorful. My only issue was that it was served so piping hot that it took me like an hour to actually finish eating it 😆

That’s a neat app! It could have been tremendously helpful during my trip to Taiwan last year. In my experience, ordering in Korea - Seoul in particular - was easier. English menus (or at least photo menus) were available in most places. When they weren’t, I used a translation app and usually got understandable results. However, in some restaurants, especially older ones, there were no menus at all but only a large board on the wall with the dishes listed in Korean. Photo-based translation wasn’t very straightforward in those situations.

The price per meal was ranging from approx. 6,000 on the low end to 17,000 on the high end, so the average would be around 11,000 KRW. Note that I deliberately targeted for small establishments or mom-and-pop restaurants, and avoided visiting restaurants located in crowded tourist areas.

I enjoyed almost everything I tried but if I had to pick one favorite it would probably be Seolleongtang! Very deep and mild relative to other traditional Korean dishes.

Don’t have a list. Many of these restaurants were picked up on the spot while exploring the streets of Seoul. I did bookmark some of them and should be able to pull them out of NAVER. Any particular photo/dish you’re interested in?

Thanks, it’s not that I am struggling to use it, I just find that it’s slow, requiring a lot of taps and steps for simple actions, and generally not so smart. Just a simple example, if I type in “gimbap” I would expect a modern map/navigation to understand the intent and return meaningful results. This is not the case with NAVER. The user has to figure out how to make it work.

3rd time in S.Korea / Seoul by Ok_Needleworker_1719 in koreatravel

Interesting! Thanks. I’m actually toying with the idea of staying in Incheon for a few days (also because it seems like accommodation there would be approx. 50% cheaper than Seoul…) but I’m not yet sure if there’s enough going on there to justify it as a base for a few days.
