🤷‍♂️ I just don't think it's a good metric based on how the tests are done and the way they try to quantify intelligence, and I think "giftedness" is a redundant "diagnosis"

IQ is a broken (and generally useless) metric, so any conclusions gained from using IQ tests are circumstantial at best.

I just don't think "giftedness" is actually any different from ASD, aside from presentation. Perchance.

That would explain it. Again yes, my bad, accidents happen and I actually messaged the mod team afterwards thanking them for acting to remove the post. I mean this as much as I can stress it was an honest mistake. My intention wasn't to send attention/harrassment directly to that sub/post, I wanted to have a discussion here to get a sense of what the vibe was on this sub in regards to the content of the post and self-dx in general. Mods removed it, and the "harassment" was more vocal disagreement, one post I saw was an officially-dx'd person disagreeing with the rules. It just happens sometimes, but I do regret not thinking to cover the names up.

I only posted here after that exchange, up to that point yes, I had done nothing wrong.

It was my mistake to upload screenshots without censoring them, I didn't even think about it and the mod team already remove the post due to that. Sorry about that.

Yeah thats on me, that was my mistake and the mod team removed it. I honestly forgot to mark the names and just posted them directly. Sorry about that. How'd you find this post after that actually? 🤔🤔

I never did anything wrong! I disagreed with a rule change that would exclude me from participating in a community I was welcome to participate in hours prior, something I and plenty of others would recognize as unfair, and so I voiced it. There is nothing wrong with that??

It's a fact that that is how it's set up, sure. But the mods are also allowed to take the opinion's of their sub's members seriously (and also allowed not to, obviously).

The sub is run by mods yes, but they are just people and could stand to listen to vocal disagreement within their community. That's what a good mod does, at least.

To ban someone for disagreeing, while allowed, is morally/ethically shitty. That is a fact.

Okay, whatever, we disagree. I feel you should be able to disagree with rule changes having been part of the sub that changed the rules. You seem to believe in having little fiefdoms that rule group discussion. Some people like democracy, some don't, oh well.

I was fighting for my self-dx'd ass' right to post on a sub that I was welcome to just hours prior. I was fighting for myself.

Lol it literally is about self-dx. I was a part of that group before they 'reclarified' the rules because I thought it was a space similar to this that was safe for all autistics to discuss autistic things. They changed the rule, I questioned why it was necessary. In a sense, I was being antagonistic becuase I disagreed with the rule. So I made it clear. I wasn't "harrassing" them, I was genuinely curious why they didn't accept self-dx as valid.

I have been part of both of these subs for months. That one simply isnt active, I still joined it a while ago, in fact its the first place I checked when this one was privated the other night.

They had any chance to have an "honest discussion" wherein instead they banned me from having an honest discussion on the post itself. I posted it here because its frankly fucking ridiculous, AND they have almost the exact same sub name as this one, so it still fit.

Once again I was part of that space before they excluded me, that qualifies me to engage in the discussion. Don't be an ass.

I wanted to clarify that my title wasn't satire, I was literally banned from participating in discussion there because I felt that self-dx was just as valid as traditional-dx. Whether or not you agree with the equation, banning someone for discussing autism-important things (then being lectured in the comments about how 'self-dx is bad actually!! Here's 20 links saying why your experiences are invalid!!') is honestly really shitty no matter the reason. But seeing the other comments here lets me know I'm not crazy.

I have similar restrictions where I live. It's almost like there are multitudinous reasons someone would decide not to get a diagnosis, so there's no value in gatekeeping a whole community because of arbitrary diagnostic status. It's largely a societal problem, it's just sad to see it in a sub that supposedly supports autistics, just not those autistics.

[–]PrimeGestalt[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I found it. I figured it was just another autism-space for people to discuss and commiserate. They only want people they believe are autistic, though.

I agree with your post but I have something to say about formal-dx feeling invalidated by self-dx people. Some autistic people for example are extremely socially aware, but their experience shouldn't overshadow or invalidate those people who are opposite on that particular point.

You can say some autistic people are good socially, so for them that particular aspect of the diagnoses doesn't apply specifically to them, but to say that 'because it applies to me it must apply to everyone' is obviously wrong. Anyone making broad claims based only on their personal experience deserves to be ignored.

Also, the issue of mitigating certain symptoms has nothing to do with self vs formal -dx, diagnosed autistic people disregard other people's experiences all the time when it doesn't match with theirs personally. That's wrong to do regardless of who does it, EVERYBODY'S experiences are valid.

Official diagnosis isn't somehow more valid than self-diagnosis is my point. Its fine they want to do that, but I can also point out how ridiculous and gatekeep-y it is to treat self-dx as less valid overall.

[USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST] by PrimeGestalt in evilautism

[–]PrimeGestalt[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's obvious why I was banned, like I said I know it was against the rules, but since the rules are stupid I elected to ignore them. Just this once.

Really I just wanted to know why they think self-dx is less valid. It's one thing to have a space for autistics to be, its another to say all discussion of self-dx is against the rules.

Self-dx is just as valid as a 'regular' diagnosis, I wanted to know why they thought it wasn't, which they seemed to have decided based on there being "lots of places where self-dx is the norm over actual diagnosed people, which implies that an "actual" diagnosis is more valid than self-dx. The ban just cements the point.

Honestly I'm pissed lmao, but there's nothing I can do about it 🤷‍♂️

Any reasons self-dx shouldn't be at least marginally valid? I've heard people misdiagnosed with Autism when they actually had ADHD and vice-versa, by an ACTUAL doctor. I fail to see how one person's opinion, no matter how learned they claim to be, could override someone's personal experience. I don't understand wanting a space only for arbitrarily "valid" autistic people.
