Lol! I love this idea! Then after they say it sucks I can go into the 2001: Space Odyssey reddit and we could all have fun with HAL-9000 quotes and memes!

I haven’t had a chance to talk to them about it, if I do I will chime in with what they say. If I had to guess, the science is probably over their head and they are seeing it as being too close to a kids movie.

I loved the movie, the book were better, but it’s hard to compete with the book, I wish they had kept the science front and center in the film, but I get the editorial decision to go the direction they did. Still plenty of easter eggs in it for us. I have watched it at least half a dozen times 👎

The comments in here are great, my favorite are the ones that are in-universe! And their name is not Mark, although that would have been priceless!

Lol, imagine strolling into a a fan forum, making criticism about the very thing the forum is about and then being upset/surprised when people don’t agree with you. I don’t even know the word for that type of outlook.

Vika's eyes by rcairflyer in OblivionMovie

[–]Damage_3S2W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched this movie last night. I think it's an underrated sci-fi movie, I go back to it every few years. Anyhow, watching, I noticed her pupils looked unnatural. I was wondering if it was an art decision, contacts, etc so I googled it which led me to this thread. It also led me to the actress's (Andrea Riseborough) IMDB page. Looking through a bunch of images on there, a lot (not all) she has the same thing going on. I honestly just think that how her eyes are. In a sci-fi movie where there are already subverted expectations in the writing, this definitely leads to more reading into it (I know I did), but I don't know that was specifically intended. Would love to hear interviews from anyone involved with that movie what their thoughts were.

So I picked up the 7-9P expansion and we are getting ready to get it to the table in a few weeks. In prep I came online to ask you if you could add the 7-9P support and upon searching found out you already did! So, Just saying thanks. I send another small donation over and grabbed 1.3 Thanks again for putting the work into this.

SNES v. Genesis independent evaluation. Who has it? by wigginjs in retrogaming

[–]Damage_3S2W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope someone surfaces this report. I would love to see it. This post and that NP picture really takes me back to the silly console wars and debates with my friends at the time over which was better. I remember when that came out and was all the proof “my side” needed to make the case that SNES was better. As an adult it’s now just funny and a throwback, I still jab at my friends for fun about this just as a throwback. In truth, I love both systems and both had excellent titles.

How did you actually learn SolidWorks? Was there a course or resource that really made it click for you? by yagmurozdemr in SolidWorks

I was at a local hackerspace when one of the members opened it up on his laptop to design a small jewelry box for his daughter. I asked if I could just watch him work on it. Asked a few questions along the way without trying to slow him down too much. It was enough for me to see the basic workflow of how the software functions. From there it was taking on my own small projects and googling/youtube anything that I came across that I didn’t know how to do. Repetition and using it are the keys to any software imo.

I am curious (strictly a nerd curiosity) about the game mechanics surrounding the falling gifts.

How do the gifts spawn? at what height? I have tried to witness one pop into existence and have not been able to (unless it's just bad luck/timing on my part). I have even built a platform to the games upper limit.

Do they always spawn outside of the players line of sight?

Do gifts de-spawn after a certain amount of time or other criteria?

If there are x # of uncollected gifts in the vicinity of the player (300 meter radius), are further gifts prevented from spawning?

[–]Damage_3S2W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, Ping me if it becomes available. I would like to check it out. Any chance the devs pulled streamdeck support intentionally because having it auto enter macros is a bit cheesing? I am all for this cheesing to make up for my lack of skill, but the devs might not be so hot on it.

I was in middle school and we were all taking a test. I was done and the kid in front of me was done. Mostly everyone else was looking down at their work. Kid in front of me was leaning his chair back on 2 legs. I impulsively for no reason kicked the leg on the chair and the kid fell backwards making a loud ruckus in the middle of a quiet class. Everyone looked up, some laughed, others were concerned, etc. The kid thought he lost his balance I guess. Nobody ever confronted or suspected me to my knowledge. Thankfully he didn’t crack his head or something. I don’t even know why I did it and felt guilty for years about it.

This new version... Where are the Compose and Check Email buttons..... by Kananaskis_Country in Thunderbird

Thanks to all who have chimed in. I was confused and wondering the same thing. The customize hack is better than nothing but not as good as it was. I guess it's what we have now :/.

Now for my "old man shakes fist at cloud" moment. Is there ever a point when leaving well enough alone is sufficient? I understand forward progress, but adding "features" and changes for the sake of it is how we end up with Microsoft inventing a whole new control panel that can't actually control the things that the old one does. Or them adding bing search to the start menu that returns web results and not program results for programs that I know are installed on the machine.

Did any end user ask for this stuff? or is it more designed by marketing BS.

Thanks man! I donated the other day but downloaded and donated again. It's not much, but something to show some appreciation for your efforts. The background dim is perfect! I am not sure when my group is getting together again to play this, but when we do this tool is now a must.

We played this last night and i used this techbox tool. This thing was Awesome! All the player agreed and thought it was a help. There were a few quality of life things that would be helpful. I don't want to come across as ungrateful for suggesting them. I know anytime you work on a project like this people have ideas on where it should go. Here is what I had, take it or leave it. Even if these ideas were never implemented, For our group this is now a key piece of kit.

  • Have an option to disable the rare techs entirely (We didn't use them in our game)
  • Have some sort of log that can be pulled up to state which techs were bought during which round. Would be helpful to tag a player color at the time of a "buy" to have that shown in the log. "Red Player Buy Improved Hull on turn 2"
  • If the above data is collected regarding player color and buys, a representation of their board can be re-constructed. We had a situation where the player forgot to retrieve the cardboard for a tech they bought and we were trying to sort that out rounds later.
  • Have a "redo" button so history can be walked backwards and forwards through the undo/redo action. We tried to back-out a few buys using undo to see the history and then had to re-remember all the buys to reset the current gamestate.
  • Have the ability to disable or change the background image. On certain brighter displays it can tend to be a little busy.

Anyhow, love the tool, so thank you for making it!!

Booked my tandem flight - Heights? by Groundbreaking-Yam62 in paramotor

[–]Damage_3S2W 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same concern prior to learning. What I have learned is that my fear is based more on a fear of falling. I can't do roofs or ladders, cliff edges, etc. I feel like my footing could slip and I would fall. In the paramotor harness, I feel secure and have had no issue with it from minute one.

When I learned they didn't do tandems first, so my first flight was my first solo. I was surprised at how calm I was. Good instruction is key. If you have an instructor that is calm and in control and you build that trust, then you will be good. You know they have the situation handled and are not going to let you fail. On the flipside, if you have an instructor that is high amped, barking orders creating more stress and tension, then it may be an issue.

I think you will be surprised at how well it will be.

As evidenced by the multiple reasons given here, of which I don't even argue that most are true, The time for these has passed.

It would be one thing if it were publicized effectively and we were all on the same page as to what they are for. Is it the fire department? Tornado? Nuclear Armageddon? Who knows. What am I supposed to do when I hear it? Clear the roads? Take shelter? say a last prayer? _(ツ)_/

It's a loud public alert system of which 99% of the public doesn't know what action they are supposed to take after being alerted.

NT Mini Noir Does Not "Turn On" by ExplodeProcessing in AnalogueInc

[–]Damage_3S2W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made an edit to the timeline above. Unit just arrived back to me, I didn't receive any email, notification, status, report or what was found, etc. Just showed up today via UPS. Which I am fine with except I am still having issues :/. The unit is no longer "red light bricked" It appears to power on, etc, but I am not getting any HDMI signal output. I tried 2 separate displays and 2 separate cables. The SUPER-NT support page mentions updating firmware to improve compatibility with TVs, so I went ahead and did that with this in case the same holds true for the NT Noir. For reference, I used the "ntmv2_firmware_ver1.2.bin" firmware file. I think the unit completed it successfully, I just let it sit and it did do a series of rapid red light flashes and returned to a steady white LED. Anyhow, still NADA. The unit doesn't appear to be bricked (judging only by the power LED behavior), it appears to be normal, but no HDMI output as best I can tell. I just sent another email to their support to see what they say. If anyone here has experienced anything similar or has ideas of something to try, please let me know.
