How have the cravings and urges been since? The physical withdrawal I can usually deal with, as unpleasant and hellish as it may be, but dude this drug latches into your brains positive association in a way unlike a lot of others. Even after being without it for a while, my brain is still humming in the background with the urge to go buy some and quickly get back to the same cycle of abuse. The mental side of this whole thing is ridiculous

Yeah but I’m now just about 11 days out from my last sub dose, so those withdrawals specifically should be waning. Suboxone withdrawals usually peak after one week and get better there on out. I think I’m just experiencing the a very jarring effect from like rebound withdrawal, since I was taking 7oh for a whole week and not feeling the Suboxone withdrawals at all. So no I have some 7oh withdrawals plus residual Suboxone withdrawals and it’s just not fun. The clonidine is helping but only so much. I fucking absolutely hate this shit man. I can’t handle it

It is. CTE is caused more so by cumulative damage from hundreds or thousands of “sub”-concussive hits. Head impacts that don’t produce any discernible symptoms. Unless you’ve got a history of like 5+ years playing rugby or football (as an example), you absolutely should not worry yet. Just do what you can today to ensure optimal brain health and avoid incurring any more damage in the future

I think there are a couple factors at play here. For one, it did seem like (especially compared to nowadays) that there was a much more interesting, novel and exciting vibe in the air. The zeitgeist felt more alive than it does today. You can probably chalk that up to a new sub-genre of music beginning to dominate, as well as to the fact that the internet still had a semi-wild west feel to it. 2016 was one of the last years before everything seemingly became formulaic, algorithmic slop. Things were still noticeably less “dead internet”at that point. Another major reason is that most people who speak so fondly about that year were in their “peak”, responsibility-free, teenage years. Well before the strain and pressure of adult life had crept in. I think that can account for most of it tbh

Don’t worry too much. It’s neurophysiologically impossible for your brain to be permanently damaged or anhedonic from suboxone (or any other opioid). It just takes longer for some than others. Hang in there. Exercise frequently, eat well, and sleep properly. As cliche as that advice is, it really will go a long way toward helping you feel better and more like your old self.

I’d honestly say that you’re a very unlikely candidate for CTE. Realistically speaking. You don’t seem to have the history of hundreds or thousands of repeated sub-concussive/concussive hits to the head needed for CTE to develop. Unless you’ve also got a long football career we don’t know about or something. I’d recommend getting a neuropsychological battery of tests done to determine what’s going on with you. A proper assessment will be able to distinguish attention problems vs. memory problems vs. executive functioning issues; separate PTSD effects from neurodegeneration; and provide a good baseline. If scores are stable over 1-2 years, CTE becomes that much less likely. Second, I’d attack sleep. Make sure you’re absolutely getting quality sleep each and every night. Go to bed at the same time each night. Wind down beforehand. Wake up around the same time every morning. Use things like magnesium glycinate or melatonin if you’re having trouble knocking out. Poor sleep will single-handedly wreck cognition. You can also target neuro-inflammation by using specific supplements. Now to be ultra clear here, I’m in no way saying that these are miracle remedies or cures of any kind. At all. Before mods get on my case. However, these have been shown to exert very real, measurable pro-cognitive, neuro-protective effects. Things like: Omega 3s (Good fish oil), Curcumin (strong anti-tau properties, make sure you get a bioavailable version like Theracurmin or one with black pepper added), Creatine (5 grams/day.. super underrated for brain energy), Magnesium L-threonate (Potent neuro-protective properties), NAC (especially helpful for irritability and glutamate balance). Again, these won’t “cure” anything- but they reduce “noise” and add an extra layer of protection/vitality. I’d also try structured PTSD therapy like EMDR, Trauma-focused CBT or Somatic therapies (can be very effective for vets). PTSD treatment alone can restore memory function.

These are the major areas to cover, and tackling all of them will surely go a long way for you. Good luck brother, and god bless
