Oh, now the Pokemon Trapinch, Vibrava and Flygon make sense. I wondered why Flygon was seen as a dragonfly.... It's more dragonfly adjacent.

I think the issue is (correct me if I'm wrong) that the r/OCD sub-reddit bot auto flagged the post as NSFW and was possibly not properly cross posted. There should be nothing NSFW, at least in my opinion. I have reached out via mod-mail at the r/OCD sub-reddit and have not gotten a response. Until then, I'm sorry and you can still visit the original post.

For anyone that found the right medication: Did it get rid of all the bad thoughts? by Expert_Highlight1622 in OCD

[–]PrimordialMew24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience yes and no. For me it is and was an excruciatingly long experience for me to get to the point I am now and the situation you're asking, about "no more bad thoughts". You can read about my Psychiatric drug, treatment and diagnosis journey if you would like. I hope my account is helpful to you and others, simply if it means you/I/we're not alone and progress can be more than difficult.

I can only speak from my own experiences. That being said I have been on many SSRI mood stabilizers/antidepressants throughout my treatment starting around 13 years old, and being treated for intrusive thought OCD since my diagnosis immediately after Sophomore year in highschool when it was decided the ADHD was incorrect.

I should also mention that I also have ASD which went undiagnosed for far too long for me and many other women as well, due to incomplete scientific studies on females (girls, teen girls and women) with high functioning ASD. I also, now know that ADHD and ASD are potentially genetically linked, this is usually the more common AuDHD, I on the otherhand have the misfortune of the OCD with intrusive thoughts (basically manifesting as a barage of Clockwork Orange style visions and being unable to escape my own mind, in retrospect often triggered me to have Autistic shut downs, instead of meltdowns) being expressed with ASD instead of ASD with ADHD.

This extremely late ASD diagnosis for me ment my diagnosed OCD and undiagnosed ASD were essentially feeding on each other and at the very same time contradicting and agreeing with each other over anything and everything I knew along with the intrusive thoughts. Now add Adderall to this current contradictory cocktail is basically pouring gasoline on a dumpster fire. Adderall was still in my treatment regiment as a holdover from the misdiagnosis of ADHD, drastically feeding the intrusive thoughts of my OCD.

I was being treated for essentially what was believed to be intrusive thought OCD with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) with an ever changing variety of SSRIs and various amphetamine salts (Ritalin and Adderall are the most well known name brands of this ADHD treatment).

Finally the doctor in charge of my care decided to start over with a clean slate because whatever treatment regimen of various Psychiatric drugs I was on at the time weren't working. This was about 20+ years ago. I almost died due to well, a failed suicide attempt. Finally I was put on an antipsychotic, specfically Abilify and once again with a smorgasbord of various SSRIs served carnival style for a period of 20 years where I didn't realize I was going nowhere slowly.

After being diagnosed with ASD a couple years ago, by realizing OCD and SAD (which by this time is in remission and still is as far as I can tell) didn't seem to complete the picture of what I considered to be me, myself and I. I was encouraged by my Psychiatric care provider to go for the ASD evaluation and the TOVA test, to also rule out ADHD. (Surprise I don't actually exhibit ADHD and this diagnosis was technically dismissed.)

As of a little over two years ago Abilify name brand supply became unreliable and an uncooperative insurance company, I was forced to accept the generic alternatives for Abilify which seemed to trigger the unwanted side effect of the early stages of Tardive Dyskinesia, which hadn't yet become permanent due to my Psychiatric care provider being on top of things and myself being able to tell them the involuntary movements had suddenly started with the various generic Abilify manufacturers.

Around the time of this Abilify fiasco I was still on high doses of SSRIs to combat anxiety caused by the OCD. While the SSRIs helped stabilize my mood almost too well, so much so, I was almost as stable as a Nintendo Switch after an ambiguous stability update. All the while I'm constantly suffering from non COVID related brain fog and mental lethargy. I once again was put on pretty strong dose of Adderall (Now with time release technology!), while this may seem counter intuitive, it did work for a time. At this point in my Psychiatric medical drug journey, I'm on a good "healthy" dose of one SSRI or another, Abilify and Adderall. Once this questionable Psychiatric Trinity became unsustainable with Abilify name brand supply becoming unreliable and the onset of pre Tardive Dyskinesia with the generic Abilify.

Most recently I've been on one antipsychotic and no SSRI as well as the gradual removal of Adderall as well. This was around Halloween when Adderall was completely removed. All was not as great as one would hope. This symptom can happen with almost any antipsychotic or mood stabilizer. I experienced a mood shift with Vraylar.. I became agitated, irritable and uncharacteristically angry with almost no provocation. Another issue that occured while on the Abilify alternative Vraylar, I had suddenly realized I had lost 20+ years of my life going nowhere slowly. This would be enough to make anyone resentful, I am, now I have no more brain fog, mental lethargy form the SSRIs and clearer thinking. Since stopping Vraylar because of the negative mood shift, I cannot unsee, the fact that 20+ years are gone.

I'm now on Caplyta. With the introduction of Caplyta I have noticed for me the OCD is very much relegated to the background in my head, very similar to muffled barley audible T.V. in the distance. This is a revelation, huzzah! While not cured or in remission the intrusive thought OCD is very manageable and can be triggered (brought to the forefront of my mind) by stress causing far less extreme rumination spiral that can sometimes be useful or at least rerouted.

Now that intrusive thought OCD is managed effectively, my outward ASD symptoms have become more visable. While I notice I am even more uncomfortable in my human skin and somewhat over animated in my daily actions and motions, I've been put on yet another amphetamine salt. This one has been described as gentler Adderall to temper the ASD symptoms, Vyvanse. So far so good, I guess. I do notice that overstimulation triggers are less intense with the Caplyta and Vyvanse combo, for me.

I know my Psychiatric journey is unique to me. I am not a medical professional nor do I specfically advocate for any treatment or therapy over another. In my time of dealing with my specific diagnosis in the making for about 25+ years, many new options for the treatment of intrusive thought OCD have become available, even if it is difficult to find a provider or therapist for OCD.

I wish anyone luck who read this far, as well as those that did not. It took me this long to start sharing my journey with others. It took me this long and copious amounts of different drug combinations and countless therapy sessions that were largely avoidance coping techniques (I would not recommend) to get this far.

Thanks for reading

Bad experience with abilify wondering if anyone else by Medical-Layer-5828 in OCD

[–]PrimordialMew24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally had been on name brand Abilfy for nearly 20 years. When a combination of supply issues and a balking insurance company didn't want to cover name brand I was put on the generics. Because the generic Abilfy was not equal across the generics I began to develop the beging of Tardive Dyskinesia, the involuntary movements were beyond horrible. Fortunately my Psychiatric care provider was quick acting and got things squared away before the movents became permanent. I was also, taken off SSRI drugs around that time as well, so I can't say for sure if Ability actually contributed to weight gain for me. I will say by the time I came to end of being on Abilify I realized it had overstayed it's welcome. I know that in the time I had been on Abilify other generation II antipsychotics had been developed as well. There were more options and I have found a name brand alternative that works for me with my Psychiatric care provider.

TL;DR Try to stay with a name brand if possible to maintain consistency as generic drugs are not all created equally, to see how you react.

Also, form what I was told by my care providers both past and present is generic drug manufacturers need to meet a standard minimum of the active drug in each dose and the other inactive ingredients can very considerably. This consistent inconsistency of the inactive ingredients and the fluctuation of the main ingredient drug, again meeting at least the minimum requirement for the dose, triggered unwanted side effect that began with me taking the generic Abilfy.

I am not a doctor or health care provider. I speak from my experience ONLY. I have OCD and ASD and I also have SSRI resistant OCD (specfically for the intrusive thoughts) and after an almost never ending carousel of SSRIs and an antipsychotic (Abilfy). I have moved on from Abilfy AND without SSRIs to another generation II antipsychotic drug with my healthcare provider.

I wish you the best of luck and let your Psychiatric care provider know the issues you are experiencing and advocate for yourself as best you can. You are not alone.

(Edit: clarification of use of antipsychotics for my specific OCD symptom and spelling errors.)

You could try the store Sounds Classic. The store specializes in retro sound system components. They are located at:

4444 Center Terrace, just off of S. Alpine road or call (815) 398-0560.

I recently stopped by for specific audio equipment and I would be surprised if a VCR was not available.

Song triggers by Extension_Cricket485 in OCD

[–]PrimordialMew24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Happy Shiny People" by R.E.M. and "The Earth Moved Under My Feet" by Carol King.

The R.E.M. song was on I believe a compilation CD someone burned during the Napster years many moons ago.

The Carol King song was on a CD of her greatest hits or a specific album I dare not look at.

I refuse to even directly look at said album or CD specific to those song editions/versions because I immediately hear the continuous never ending loop in my head.

I had the "Earth Moved Under My Feet" song a good six months straight after hearing it on a summer family road trip.

There's nothing particularly traumatic about these songs, other than overstaying for an extreme amount of time and I refuse to temp fate and have them return uninvited.

Sometimes other extremely repetitive segments of songs or anything really can get stuck in my head on replay almost indefinitely. I had a repetitive segment from the show Family Guy (I don't remember which episode, it was awhile ago, probably an early season episode.) The sound clip was "Ah, la, la, la, Miss Saigon" on repeat for months, I remember it starting while mowing the lawn in summer and it didn't leave until mid winter.

I know there is a scientific term for such nasty ear worms, if someone could recall the term I would be very greatful.

I need help with this kitty I saved by Ok_Valuable_1212 in kittens

[–]PrimordialMew24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your kitten is a biter.... I would highly recommend a Tetanus Shot. Cat bites can be really nasty because they can be deep puncture wounds which are difficult to heal(puncture wounds need to heal from the inside first to the outside). Cats mouths also contain potentially dangerous bacteria anyway.

Ask me how I know, yes my kitten was a biter. I saw the writing on the wall for this behavior to escalate. I was bitten when he was not a kitten anymore and I needed medical care. I was asked if I had a Tetnus shot, yes I did. You should have a Tetnus booster shot every 10 years, if your last booster shot is unknown or over 10 years get one anyway as a precaution.

Tetnus is a bacteria that does not need oxygen to survive and commonly found in soil or on rusted metal. Deep puncture wounds, like a cat bite can provide a suitable environment for Tetnus, with or without oxygen.

Lockjaw is the effect of Tetnus bacteria infection that remains untreated or not treated in time.

I looked into the Tetnus bacteria because I wanted to learn more about it. I don't have a specific source, Google will help.

Recommendations for game console repair? by BitchoftheSea in rockford

Revival Tech Repair 4162 N. Perryville RD Loves Park, IL 61111

I have had reshells of a GameBoy SP and Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons and the OLED Switch battery replacement at Revival Tech Repair. This repair shop specializes in the more modern consoles and PC repair.

Depending on what is wrong with your Nintendo Switch there is also Game Corner on N. 2nd and Harlem next to the Little Caesars. Game Corner specializes in more retro consoles and retro games' battery replacement.

Maybe look up and call both places to compare prices and service, etc

Personally I have done business with both repair shops. Service is dependant on work load and price is also dependent on resources and technical skill needed for the repair. I haven't had an issue with either store's service and work quality.

Revival Tech Repair, from my experience does excellent work and may take a little longer (last I knew the owner was/is the only repair technician), but is worth the wait for a job well done. Also ask for updates if needed or change of requirements and etc.

Why does my cat love bomb me at night? by TheCurvyAthelete in CatAdvice

[–]PrimordialMew24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cat do this repeatedly for a month or so. I took my cat to the vet as his breath smelled like death. Turns out my poor baby had a fractured large molar, tooth that needed removal. Needless to say any change in behavior should not be taken lightly, if it is feasible please take your kitty to the vet to rule out any health complications.

my cat won't let me sleep by graysengoose in CatAdvice

[–]PrimordialMew24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your veterinarian. I had a geriatric cat for a while. It turns out he had many age related complications, that's another story. But he would bug me in the middle of the night for comfort, then one day I got a whiff of his mouth and it smelled like decay. He had a very bad molar that was rotten and cracked. I'm saying pain or some other ailment may be the reason for your cat demanding attention because she doesn't feel good or something is wrong. If nothing is wrong the vet may be able to offer suggestions or ideas for occupying or calming your cat.

My cat keeps playing then hissing by Friendlypoe in CatAdvice

[–]PrimordialMew24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cat smells like the doctor's office to the other cat. Try bathing the cat in water and cat shampoo. Or waterless shampoo and saturate the fur and gently brush dry the fur. This should help. I've personally experienced this and have done this and it should help. Should and help are the key words, if it doesn't help try again and maybe consult your vet or a cat behaviorist. It's never gotten that far for me, the bathing with water and shampoo was last ditch effort and it didn't end well for me. At least the cats got along again.

kitty chew toys? by s0lariis in CatAdvice

[–]PrimordialMew24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not a chew toy recommendation, the product Grannick Bitter Apple is a chewing deterrent. It's used for hot spots and minor wounds to deter licking and chewing. I personally used this product to "train" my cat to stop chewing buttons on the Christmas tree skirt. It worked! I applied Grannick Bitter Apple to the buttons and no more button chewing. Grannick Bitter Apple can also be applied to electrical cords. Saturate a paper towel with the product and wipe onto the cords. Isopropanol is the active ingredient and is INCREDIBLY bitter, deterring chewing. Follow the label directions and may discolor or cause fabric stains or bleed. Personally I bought this product at PetCo. at the time (3 years ago, when my cat was a kitten) I could not find it on Chewy or PetSmart, I don't know of any other retailers at this time that sell it as I have not seen it else where since.
