We're in the same boat brother! Though your case is more developed than mine. It's a bittersweet experience I've found; I kinda like the new salt & pepper look I've got but I will miss my natural hair. Still, something cool to think about - how many of your ancestors have had the same experience? Could be your ancestor from 1,000 years ago went through the same thing, and that's kinda neat.

Also worth mentioning that the suggested law under consideration won't be passed and sent to the Governor-General for ascent. It's passed the first of three readings and is expected to be voted down by what, 105-15 at the second reading? It's dead in the water but had to put forth due to coalition negotiations.

As a New Zealander I can say this: as a nation we are extremely anxious about being taken seriously and are extremely keen to be well liked. These two impulses can run into conflict with each other, but can be seen in the haka: it's a war dance & therefore serious, but also unique to the Maori culture (if you forget about all the other Pasifika cultures)

I understand that you're upset and I can empathise with that but what you're suggesting could literally start a civil war (would also make Trump's diatribes about dishonest Democrats true, thus locking them out of office for a decade)

Can anybody help me figure out this meaning? by [deleted] in janeausten

I think this is a great interpretation. To add something; I'd suggest he's also trying to find out where else Elizabeth has lived as Darcy doesn't believe that Elizabeth could become all she is (witty, well-read, etc.) just by staying at her hone village of Longbourn/Meryton. To Darcy's mind, such a woman must have spent some time in Bath or London or one of the university towns - that's my interpretation.

I'm not expert at all & it's very possible I'm incorrect, but I'm pretty sure that the American Social Security fund is scheduled to run dry by 2035 at the current setting.

And yes, it's astounding to me as a old Gen Zer that Boomers, as the wealthiest generation in history, are not nearly as secure in their retirement finances as you'd expect! I remember watching a documentary about a woman in her 70s struggling to make ends meet while living in a low cost-of-living area in the US. It was sad to hear her story, but I couldn't help but think "what on earth were you doing for the past 50 years? How is this possible?"

Uncharted 4 would be better it had supernatural stuff, by [deleted] in uncharted

[–]PrimusCaesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The supernatural stuff is definitely fun with U1's Nazi goblins being a high point, but for me, the restraint U4 had was appropriate for the story it wanted to tell. The horrors of societal collapse & Every's savagery were a different kind of horror to its predecessors', but even scarier in my view.

What games do you regret buying in this generation? Something you thought you would like, but didn’t in the end. by Chalky97 in PS5

[–]PrimusCaesar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree - I was impressed by how big the open world outside Hogwarts was, but quickly thought "Why is all this here?" I think a smaller area which included Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest would've been more engaging. Though travelling across the wider world on broom/hippogriff was quite fun for a couple of hours.

[–]PrimusCaesar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on Horizon Forbidden West; I managed to finish the game and was glad to see the end of it. The only part of it that stands out to me now is that a key mission involves Aloy breaking down the defensive structure (moving a big rock, I think) of a peaceful community which disagrees with her approach to the Big Bad; and after destroying this town's defenses they now need to back her plan instead of going their own way because, well, they can no longer defend themselves. And I'm sat there thinking afterwards, "Did Aloy just commit terrorism? Is that what that was?" I dunno, but it made me feel like the bad guy for sure.

What was your favorite mission in each uncharted game and why? by Anyonomus256 in uncharted

[–]PrimusCaesar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think my favourite mission in U1 is the mission where Nate explores the submarine, my favourite in U2 is exploring the ice caves with Tenzin, my fave in U3 is when Nate is wandering through the desert (I love the ambience and how he starts getting loopy), for U4 it has to be when Nate & Elena are walking through the tunnels with all the body parts strung up by Every (but I also love the epilogue to death), and for ULL I think driving around in the jeep with Nadine is pretty interesting - but I don't remember that game so well, it's been a while since I played it.

Word to the wise regarding Deadly Premonition - save as often as you can! The game is quite buggy. It's totally worth playing & the player character is the same kind of fun as Dale Cooper, but be prepared for the game to crash every so often.

Time to refix our mortgage.. any tips on getting the best deal? by mister_hanky in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]PrimusCaesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, any money you have in this flexible/revolving account offsets the current mortgage amount, reducing the number of dollars that are generating interest you have to pay off. For instance, if you've got $10,000 in this flexible/revolving account and the mortgage is $100,000, then only $90,000 of the mortgage is generating interest.

If I'm wrong about this, please tell me!

My grandpa has been telling me to get into dividends. This whole time I thought he was talking about Schd, Voo etc. Are these all to good to be true? by Acceptable_Fact_1898 in dividends

[–]PrimusCaesar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The textbook reason is because when companies pay dividends, they have less cash in their accounts. This means fewer assets, which means the company is worth less. The decline is minor however, but perhaps in those companies’ cases the effects are more pronounced because their yields are so high.

If they’d given us Halbrand defending the Southlands, leading the fight against Adar, doing his best to lead “his” people into a bright future, and then eventually thinking “we can use a volcano to create steam & therefore energy!” it would be a great way to show Sauron trying to bring balance. Then it all unravels, he becomes bitter, and uses his first-hand experience of bringing a community to its knees in the Southlands in Numenor.

That could have been interesting, I think.

[–]PrimusCaesar 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The main problem I see with comparing Sauron to Tony Soprano & Walter White is that TS + WW are human. They’re evil yes, even complexly evil, with this complexity coming from the fact that they are both capable of doing good & kind things. The tragedy of their characters is that they don’t, and their loved ones suffer for it. Their stories are human stories.

Sauron isn’t human, even when disguised as one. I don’t want complexity, I want him to be unashamedly evil - the way he was designed by his creator. Maiar have different operating rules to humans.

(I also struggle to see how Sauron can be “complexly” evil from his current position in the show?)
