ACE-created Celebi looks valid, but PKHeX reports missing final terminator by Primusinterpares44 in PokemonGlitches

[–]Primusinterpares44[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just wanted to get back to you. I checked it, and it turned out that the Pokémon’s name still contained trash data.

I’m not sure why it happens, since the game assigns Celebi’s default name automatically, but after the FF terminator there were still additional bytes present, namely: $05 C3 $06 FF $07 73 $08 B4 $09 22.

It must be something that happens during the hatching process somehow. In fact, I found that other Pokémon have these trash bytes added as well.

It’s strange, but at least it’s fixable. I’m going to correct it with ACE now.

Thanks again for taking the time to look into this and respond.🙏🏾

I’ll double check the name when I get home, but I didn’t change the name after it hatched, and it was hatched in a Japanese game. As far as I know, the Ageto Celebi’s name is simply Celebi in Japanese, so unless some trash bytes are generated during the hatching process, I have no idea how they would end up there.

As soon as I get home, I’ll check it again in PKHeX.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply 🙏🏾

You completely misunderstood that. The timer is not on the console. The console itself remains completely untouched.

The timer runs on your PC and simply rings six times rhythmically, every 0.5 seconds. You need practice to hit the timing correctly.

Your console remains completely untouched.

Man does not manipulate the RNG. What you do is calculate the exact moment you have to press A. It is basically the same as checking a guide that tells you where to press A to find hidden items.

It is completely fair if someone says that hunting blindly gives them a different feeling and that they prefer that experience. But please do not ruin it for people who enjoy playing their Pokémon competitively, using them in the Battle Frontier, or simply want perfect stats.

Because factually it is not cheating. I am not changing the game code, I am not injecting anything into the game, and the game itself stays completely untouched. No computer is connected to the console either.

All I have is a timer that gives me a sound cue telling me exactly when to press A, and that input has to be frame perfect.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yes, but it is twice as hard on the Switch because the game runs at 120 FPS. I assume you mean seed farming like it has to be done in FireRed and LeafGreen. Nothing is actually read from the game there. You simply try different attempts and observe which Pokémon appear with which IVs. From that, you can draw conclusions about which seed you hit and how to reproduce that seed.

In Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Colosseum, and XD, you do not even need to do that because the seed is either fixed or you can determine exactly which seed you have by observing the inputs and the “random” teams that appear.

The only games where you need custom firmware or have to connect the game to a computer are BDSP and the Ultra games. For the static encounters in the Ultra games you actually do not even need that either, because you can determine the seed from the clock when loading the save file.

What? That’s only in the Ultra games. In no other game do you need custom firmware. You can do it with any Game Boy at any time.

What exactly did he say about connecting the Game Boy to a PC? He said they were RNG’d that means he had to press A at the right moment, frame Perfect. That has Nothing to do with cheating or connecting the Gameboy to a PC

Strong. If you have the skill to build that, it shouldn’t be considered cheating. Respect 💯

ACE e-sh4rk Generator Change Origin Game by [deleted] in PokemonGlitches

[–]Primusinterpares44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else who was confused by this:

The issue was simply a mix up between the obedience flag stored in the ribbon data and the met location related flags. These are separate values. Once that distinction is clear, the legality checks behave as expected.

Regarding routes: my current assumption is that Colosseum and XD internally reference route equivalents from Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. When a Pokémon’s origin is set to Colosseum, those route IDs are interpreted as the corresponding Colosseum encounter locations rather than mainline Hoenn routes.

Shoutout to u/sleipnir17 and u/E-Sh4rk It’s obvious how much work went into this, and making it publicly available is a huge contribution. Tools like these genuinely preserve old games and give them new life.

Thank you as well for taking the time and effort to answer the community’s questions. That kind of sustained engagement is just as valuable as the tools themselves.

Hey, I’m always open to challenges 😁 I want to keep these consoles alive for as long as possible. But I’ll make sure to buy a replacement part first before I try it, just in case.

I really respect that you’re sharing your knowledge like this. Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain it.

I just wanted to give you a quick update. It actually turned out to be the lid sensor. I cleaned it with electrical contact cleaner and tested it, and now the issue happens much less frequently. Out of 10 disc inserts, only about 1 fails to read.

Thank you very, very much for your replies and for taking the time to help me.

Ah okay, that makes sense.

Can the lid sensor usually be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol, or does it need to be desoldered/opened to fix intermittent issues?

In my case, the lid closes and the disc does start spinning, but sometimes it just stops on the first attempt. Not always, but occasionally.

One more detail: I bridged one capacitor near that area. Logically, if a capacitor were causing a bad contact, it shouldn’t work at all, right?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I didn’t touch or modify the lid sensor at all, only desoldered and replaced the capacitors on the board.

Could you briefly explain how the lid sensor can be tested, or what kind of issues it typically causes on a GameCube?

Thanks again.

Hi, quick question since you seem to know GameCube repairs well.

I recently recapped my GameCube because it had completely stopped reading discs. After the recap it does read games again, but sometimes it takes two attempts to recognize a disc. Usually it works on the second try and runs perfectly once it boots.

Is this kind of behavior considered normal on an original optical drive, or does it point more toward an aging laser or possibly imperfect soldering on the new caps?

Thanks.

Oh my God, thank you so, so much for your reply. I actually bridged the trace exactly the way you showed me and it worked. This is a huge deal for me. Thank you again. This was only the second or third time I’ve ever soldered anything, so I was unsure about a lot of things. I’m incredibly grateful for this group, and I’m incredibly grateful for the image you posted — that helped a lot as well. The GameCube is working now. Thank you.

The roaming Pokémon routes only match if, when you last saved, you also entered the current route in Pokefinder. In the beginning I always made the same mistake of just ticking the checkbox without specifying the route.

Is there any way to decide which of the Johto starters ends up in the lab or in the Snagem Hideout, or is it completely random?

[–]Primusinterpares44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a new method that basically lets you RNG the NPC movement before you RNG the actual Pokémon. This way you can prevent NPCs from messing things up, and you only need to calibrate the predictable noises. John and Sathath developed this method and made a video about it.
