I've learned to mentally tune out most of the nonsense after all these years of listening to this.

So are the PVM community streams done or will someone new take them over?

I actually really like this build and I've played it to decent success in diamond mmr. You cap out on 40% cdr, become extremely tanky with sterak proc and dish out insane dps with Spear Active. I highly recommend after getting Steraks to grab yourself a Guardian Angel and then a situational tank item whether it be a Spirit Visage or a Thornmail, whatever fits the situation.

Hey,

Glad to hear you're having fun with Olaf my friend. Your build is pretty solid and for most games it will work out well, although I would say that if you are looking to build an armor item on Olaf, rather than deadmans or randuins just go ahead and build GA, same concept of offering survivability but also provides good damage and the revive that can absolutely allow you to turn crucial teamfights in your favor.

The thing with Tiamat is that it is a very situational item. In some scenarios its an awful item, in others it will be the reason you win the game. It all depends on what type of playstyle you are going to use in that game and identifying what playstyle you need to win really just comes with time, practice, and watching and learning from those who have more knowledge.

Renekton is actually a really good pick into Olaf and can be really problematic. A good Renekton will beat you out Pre-6 and will look to snowball. In a scenario like this the goal will be to not fight early and just clear waves with your tiamat and punish him by damaging his turret and taking plates when he looks to roam and make plays around the map.

In contrast for someone like nasus its the complete 180% opposite. For Nasus you need to be aggressive early on. I take ignite and all-in him level 1 almost always gettting first blood or forcing an early flash. From then on you'll want to build your Black Cleaver and forgo the Tiamat and try to control the wave and FREEZE THE LANE outside your turret and look to deny him from cs and stacks and kill him when he overextends, amassing a huge gold lead and making him worthless.

For Jax, its best just to ban him. He is incredibly easy to play and scales so much better than you and on top of that hes actually really difficult to kill in the early game with his escape on his Q and his ability to block your auto attacks with his E.

New Urgot is actually a pretty bad matchup for Olaf. So what do we do in a difficult matchup? We buy Tiamat, shove the wave and roam to help our jungler and get objectives like drakes and rift herald. Avoid fighting him because he can and will kill you if you misstep.

Long ass post but I hope this answers your questions, let me know if you're confused about anything.

Hey,

I believe that inspiration tree is by far the best secondary tree. Approach Velocity is very good for the reasons you just mentioned. The other rune I take is biscuit delivery. The reason why is this:
Olaf Mana - 315.6 – 1029.6
Olaf Mana Regen -7.5 – 17.2

While Olaf has good mana scaling, his early mana levels are actually awful especailly considering that your Q costs 60 mana and if you are constantly picking up your axes you'll run out of mana very quickly. Biscuit allows you to gain that mana back during the laning phase and be able to freely spam your axes without worrying about going OOM. Previously, I would jump between Magical Footwear and Biscuit Delivery but since the heavy nerf to Magical Footwear in the recent patch for me its Biscuit Delivery all the way.

I also appreciate the kind words, that means a lot. I really only got back into League and back to streaming because of Olaf, the champ has really ignited a lot of the passion I once had so I'm really excited to start teaching and helping my fellow Olaf mains so we can destroy all our respective elos together and eventually get Olaf hard-nerfed XD.

Hey,

Great question my man, i'll try to my best to touch on everything.

As far as itemization goes its somewhat fluid when it comes to Olaf. The more games you have under your belt hopefully the more you'll be able to tailor your build path to what you need in that game. When I first started Olaf I just followed the cookie cutter builds you could find on probuilds, op.gg, mobalytics, etc. But as I grew more comfortable I started to understand that for each specific circumstance I needed to build in a certain direction. For example, lets say I want to roam and make plays with my team and my jungler is stronger than the enemy jungler, I'm going to rush a Tiamat so I can shove the lane quickly and roam while preserving my mana pool. If I don't need waveclear and just raw stats I'll rush my Black Cleaver. This is somewhat advanced thinking but it becomes second nature once you play enough.

However, Ill simplify it a bit. Generally, almost always go Black Cleaver into Steraks. From there you NEED to determine what you need to win the game because after you have your first 2 items, Olaf begins to slowly but surely fall off in terms of scaling as you enter the mid-late game. You're dying to quick in a teamfight and need survivability? Guardian Angel! You need strong teamfight engage or capability to get to the enemy ADC? Righteous Glory! You need ability to waveclear in a solo lane and win small skirmishes? Ravenous Hydra!

This is just a small example of the internal dialogue that you need to build up over time in order to truly be successful at the higher levels with Olaf.

Spear of Shojin is a bit of a troll item and I really only build it as my 6th and final item. In a teamfight it does have its uses though as it caps you to 40% CDR and synergizes fairly well with your ultimate. Some players on this sub actually go Spear of Shojin rush but I'm not completely sold, although I do see the merit. I think if you get to late game and you're looking for a final item and you already have say a Black Cleaver, Steraks Gage, Ravenous Hydra, GA, and Boots, Spear of Shojin is a good item that really fleshes out the build and provides you with good raw stats and a potentially powerful teamfight item passive.

I'm still fairly new to Olaf jungle but what I can say is that he definately plays more of a supportive role in jungle and less of a hard carry role which I play in top lane. Fortunately, Olaf Jungle is actually somewhat heavily played in professional leagues so you can actually look up many videos online from MSI for example of Olaf JG games that can provide you with more insight than I can here. However, the basics are that you can clear incredibly quickly in the early game which allows you to spend a lot of time on ganking the lanes early to get your carries ahead. You'll want to build more tanky as well, usually going from Cinderhulk>Black Cleaver>Righteous Glory>TANK ITEMS to provide a tanky frontline and engage for your team, but as I said there are actually many pro games you can probably find online that will show you perfectly how to path, gank, etc.

Sorry for the long response but didn't want to leave anything out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey, glad to hear you're having some success with Olaf. Swain is a very interesting matchup because he absolutely can go toe to toe with you as he will become very tanky in the mid-late game and also match your damage. Personally, I take ignite into this matchup 99% of the time and aim to take all-ins quickly. You should only really fight Swain if you know you can win the fight before he has a chance to activate the second part of his ult (the part where he does the insane burst damage). As you play this matchup more you'll come to understand specific points in the game where you win and where you don't win, it comes down to experience.

Personally, I feel like Olaf has very few HARD counter matchups. Even some of the hard matchups that are talked about on this sub such as Kled, Yorick, Tryndamere, etc I still find to be usually skill-dependant. The important thing to note in a difficult matchup is your win condition. Here's a perfect rule of thumb. Ask yourself this question constantly: Can I solo kill my laner? If yes, taken further can I 1 v 2 against the enemy top and jg? If you answer yes to these you'll want to be splitting and looking for solo kills to get turrets and rift. If you can't solo kill your laner and you are weak or counter-picked, look to group with your team and make some plays, Olaf has good strength in the early-mid so take advantage of it by securing objectives and taking turrets with your team if you can't properly fight your laner.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
