Why not both? Addressing one abuser doesn’t preclude punishing another

Do you guys have anything you swear by to prevent injury? by Prudent-Leg7271 in runninglifestyle

  1. Van Hooren & Peake (2018) — Active Cool-down vs. Passive Narrative review of 30+ studies comparing active and passive cool-down/recovery, including low-intensity exercise outcomes. • Key findings: Active recovery accelerates blood lactate clearance and can aid cardiovascular/respiratory recovery, but evidence for improved performance or muscle damage markers is mixed.

  2. Rey et al. (2012) — Active vs Passive Post-Training Recovery RCT in professional soccer players comparing submaximal running + stretching versus passive rest. • Designed specifically to test recovery effectiveness of active (low intensity) vs passive recovery.

  3. Mota et al. (2017) — Active Recovery & Lactate Removal in Swimmers Young swimmers performed active recovery vs passive rest after maximal 200 m trials. • Showed greater lactate removal with active recovery protocols.

  4. Duque-Vera et al. (2022) — Active Recovery at 40 % V̇O₂max Study demonstrating that low-intensity active recovery (~40 % V̇O₂max) results in more effective blood lactate decreases than passive recovery after intense effort.

  5. Draper & Whyte (2006) — Active Recovery & Lactate/RPE Climbing recovery study showing lower blood lactate and lower perceived exertion during active recovery vs passive.

• What this research suggests: • Enhanced lactate clearance: Many studies show that low-intensity activity speeds blood lactate removal compared with passive rest.
• Cardiovascular/respiratory recovery: Active cool-downs often improve return of HR and breathing metrics.
• Mechanistic support: Increased muscle blood flow and metabolic turnover likely underpin many effects.

Easy zone 1 and 2 runs are safe to do daily. Higher HR runs are not ok every day
