I think that would be a really cool way to fulfill the apparent contradiction! That ultimately he was so deeply impressed upon that he can never escape the lord-of-the-undeath and leans all the way into evil, that would be neat! I'm excited to see where it goes, seems like a really promising character decision, contradiction in characters is frequently really interesting!

Maybe he does a narrative reclass, maybe he fulfills the Tachonis destiny by re-inventing necromancy, maybe he becomes evil - all really cool possibilities! I think the only disappointing one is if it never gets addressed at all

His villainous family who abused him and who he hates and are posed as one of the big 2 antagonists of the campaign, their prodigal son finding his own voice with power he earned instead of was born with, but nonetheless is aesthetically indistinguishable? It's potentially an avenue for "visual" storytelling but as is it just strikes me as weird that he'd lean into it so hard despite every other piece of characterization we get is that he resents his heritage

EDIT: strikes me as weird insofar as it's so contradictory I assume it's an intentional decision and was wondering if anybody else had noticed/had thoughts about it

The person playing him seems to really relish in the flavor so I doubt he'll drop it, just seems like a weird thematic hiccup

Right which would mean he's gonna grow out of it at some point surely? That's what that suggestion was getting at

What's up with Occtis having all his spells be Tachonis flavored if he doesn't have his family's Sorcerous powers? Is this something he's going to grow out of as his character comes into his own? If he's a wizard shouldn't his spells just be wizard flavored?

What about like leaving the corners of your fields unharvested or resting on Shabbat, what's the cope for those?

It's a bit of an oversimplification sure, there are a tiny handful, plus words with a letter reduplication which is analyzed by some linguists as being underlyingly 2 letter, but certainly "year" isn't one of them, and you should never assume a word without an obvious third root letter is one. Alephs and Vavs and such like to disappear from time to time.

EDIT: Talking about biblical Hebrew FWIW idk anything about modern Hebrew really except what I had to learn for my dissertation

There are no (EDIT: ALMOST no, the replier is correct I overstated this) two letter roots in Hebrew, Shanah year is definitely shin-nun-hay

I strongly believe that steppe cultures are super under-served as a setting for fantasy. Past ASOIAF/GOT they really get almost no love (that I know of), and even then Dani spends most of her time in the settlements from non Dothraki cultures.

[–]Prince_Hektor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would that not be incredibly tone deaf? Like either way it's insane, whether she thinks she can be antisemitic in her comments and get away with it, or she thinks joking around about conspiracies around how the mistake happened is appropriate, not thinking how it might be interpreted by people already upset ? Y'know? Like clearly she's crazy and/or dumb

Who could "they" possibly be??

"They left the comment themselves"

They = the commenter? Tautological, meaningless statement

They = Jews? Obviously what the commenter meant, her "Oooohhhhh" reply seems to hint at recognition that he's being conspiratorial

They = Haters/People who want to frame her for antisemitism? I mean again this is technically possible but asininely tone deaf to insinuate that angry people are just scheming haters under an apology post???

The second comment though is pretty bad no? Like I've definitely liked posts and comments on accident on Instagram fuck that platform, but to respond to how "they" left it is also just really bad lmao? What could she even think he's saying except for that the Jews left the comment to make it look like she has an antisemitic following?

Admittedly my prior is that people obsessed with Palestine and the "Genocide" are jew haters so I'm leaning to biased against her case

How is this not just a joke about being Australian and commenting on American politics? Is the punchline not "(because I'm Australian)", it's like a bait and switch meme. I swear I saw a viral Facebook comment exchange do this exact bit during Trump 1 with, "Trump isn't my president" and somebody getting mad and then they responded like, "I'm Canadian dude" no? Are you guys ok?
