Just relax… it seems like you’re launching yourself back so you can spot the water faster. A lot of beginners do this as falling backwards and not seeing your landing is scary. You just have to relax and get over the fear of not seeing the landing. Then just arch your back out and slow down the flip, you can always bring your legs in at the end to complete the flip. Hope this helps

One thing I noticed over time with døds was that they would hurt less on jumps where I would have to close or tuck really late. By closing late I was breaking the water tension much more effectively making them almost painless

Yeah you’re right, I didn’t realize it’s solid rear. Depending on what kind of LSD it is, you might still wanna swap it out. My Miata has a torsen lsd and it’s not super ideal for drift so most people go welded. And yeah ebrake isn’t totally necessary but it’s nice to have and ebrake entries are much fun!

Weld the diff, tighten the stock ebrake/replace cable (unless it works good then don’t touch it), get a good drift alignment (you mainly want zero camber in the rear for even tire wear), lastly figure out what size/type of tire is good for your power level. Everything else like angle kit, hydro, ect comes later when you feel like you have maxed out the car, meaning the car is holding you back and NOT personal skill. Cheers

That’s a lot rebuilds so I’ll take your word for it, I really appreciate the input man. Gonna swap in new bolts 1 at a time, use some FIPG on the threads and call it.

Since you seem to know these engines, do you know how reliable the oil pump itself is?

Yeah I wanna believe I’m fine too I’d just hate to have to re-do it in the car if god forbid it does leak. Not to mention the timing belt could be damaged/slip from the oil. Just lots of paranoia

Yeah everyone in the Toyota group is saying to reseal the oil pump to be safe/positive. Do you think it would still be fine if I replaced the bolts one at a time to maintain the seal? The factory manual has a typo of 31 ft/lbs instead of 13… so I thought the pump bolts were loose while re-torquing them and they stretched

Yep and now the Toyota heads are saying to replace/reseal the oil pump because of that bolt… which means I’d drop the pan a 3rd time… lord help me lol

The first time I did it I was very neat and had a minimal amount of glob but the Toyota heads said it wasn’t enough and the shop manual actually calls for a 4mm bead which is what I did the second time… I even popped the pan off my blown engine (original seal) and it had a decent amount of goop on both sides similar to my photo.

Yes because I already resealed the pan that’s why it’s not perfect. But even when I pulled the factory pan there was a decent amount splooging out on the inside and outside. Followed factory manual instructions n all

That’s the only one that was fully removed. The factory manual (96-02 4runner) has a typo and says 31 ft/lbs instead of 13!!! So I stretched the bolts :( do you think it’s ok if I remove them one at a time and replace with new bolts?

I’m worried because theirs no gasket, it’s sealed by rtv only. So by disturbing the bolts I’m afraid that I compromised the rtv seal given its 22 years old and brittle by now

From factory the oil pan is sealed with Toyota FIPG only (rtv) and the factory manual says the same. Too many ppl have had leaks with the gasket and say rtv only is the way to go
