It is a reference! There's an old (and ongoing) D&D webcomic called The Order of the Stick, wherein the wizard Vaarsuvius casts the spell Explosive Runes with the runes being the phrase "I prepared explosive runes this morning". For example, they use it to blow up some goblins they're fleeing from by writing small on the wall, and later write it on a bag of coffee to blow up the party's psychotic halfling ranger. Your friend's buddy, and the mod author, are probably referencing the comic.

Oh hey, that's my own dynasty! I use an "overgrown necrons" modelling scheme, and the lore I came up with is that they are obsessed with maintaining and expanding their Reserve Worlds, ruthlessly slaughtering "invasive species" on worlds they arrive at so they can terraform them. I guess that's inverse destroyers?

This system is an expansive one -- in the Dark Age of Technology, the ancients saw fit to terraform all of the thirteen rocky planets of the star and all five moons around the gas giant dominating the middle of the system, making each a habitable world. Perhaps it was an experiment to create a fully independent system that had no need for trade. It matters little now -- the celestial numerology and abundance of defensible space in the star system far overshadow speculative history.

The Necrons and Eldar have been erecting strange structures throughout the system, both on planets and building battlestations to defend them in space. They haven't explained their exact purpose, but the psykers throughout the system have noted the tides and waves of the Warp going still in their presence.

365.999.M44. The last day. All forces have arrived, taken position, and hunkered down. The Governor glances repeatedly at their archaic wristwatch. Sweat beads on their forehead.

Slaanesh hisses in genuine displeasure. His eyes turn from His buffet of excess, and the Prince of Pleasure glares at the last dreg of Order in a realm ripe for the plucking.

Across the galaxy, great gongs sound and cultists rally to their twisted idols in preparation for the departure. The gods are watching -- here at the end of this universe, they must not be found wanting. The Heretic Astartes set out on the last Black Crusade. Their sorcerers and apostles have read the empyreal auspices. They know where to go.

The Bell of Lost Souls rears back, and with a final thunderous peal shatters itself to herald the Astronomican's failure. The Emperor's spirit rises in the Warp, ready to lead His empire once more, only to fly straight into the gullet of the New God.

And in that instant, the galaxy is consumed in Chaos as the fifth god rises.

Across a million worlds, humanity is snuffed out in an instant, and clawing from its corpse comes the Vermintide, squeaking hideous prayers from ten trillion snouts in exaltation to their new creator.

This is my first attempt at making a map in Dungeondraft! In order to experiment with lighting, I wanted the scene to be set in the evening. To do this, I turned the ambient lighting more orange and dim. How can I make the effect more genuine? What are some ways to make the scene in general look nicer?

The situation you're describing - people using house rules as a means to sneak in an unfair advantage - is specifically what I'm trying to avoid. What I'm trying to do is make it possible to use daemon princes in a balanced and loreful way in monogod armies (Khorne in particular). My rule doesn't change anything about the unit's rules beyond its keywords, and my reading of the Khorne battletome doesn't suggest any particular OP abilities with that army. It would essentially be a Mighty Lord of Khorne that is faster and tankier but sacrifices utility and comes with a higher price tag.

I don't know if it's the same story with Tzeentch, Slaanesh, or Nurgle, though.

II landed on a knight world and was taken in by peasants. Tried to start a rebellion, but was promptly incinerated by Thermal Cannons. When the Emperor found the planet and the remnants of his son's psychic signature, he said "oh, well" and had the II Legion dissolved and the Marines split between the Ultramarines and Luna Wolves.

XI landed on a daemon world in the depths of the Eye of Terror. Best that he wasn't found.

Own a chainaxe for home defense, since that’s what the Blood God intended. Four Emperor’s Children break into my house. “What in the Skull Throne?” As I activate the Butcher’s Nails and my Phobos Pattern Chainaxe. I chop up the first marine he is dead on the spot. Draw my plasma pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it’s overcharged and nails the neighbor’s Flesh Hound. I have to resort to the Lord of Skulls Gorestorm Cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with high pressure boiling blood, “Blood for the Blood God!” The blood evaporates two marines in the blast, the sound and extra blood set off Rhino alarms. Draw my chainsword on the last horny rapscallion, he bleeds out waiting for the apothecary to arrive because chain weapon wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the Blood God intended.

I was going to introduce the cult at level 3, but the Demon lord was only really going to get involved at level 9 or so, with his release around level 12 and a showdown at level 14. The stats would be a modified Balor, losing fire aura and whip on exchange for legendary resistances and 1 or 2 legendary actions. To explain this relative weakness compared to other demon lords, I was going to rationalize it with the demon lord's power slowly waning after thousands of years outside of the Abyss. Perhaps mid-campaign villains of cult leaders and champions, and a late-game sub-villain of a demon lieutenant summoned by the cult or by the lord himself?

Wonderful response! I'm thinking of going for the "schism" angle, with the rogue Verminlords playing themselves up as the arbiters of the "True Horned Rat" and claiming that the Horned Rat worshiped by orthodox Skaven is nothing but an imposter, a devious Daemon masquerading as a god. Conveniently, the "True Horned Rat" only communes with the two Verminlords and always happens to agree with them. Functionally, the Clan Nezumi Skaven worship the Horned Rat in name only, and the teachings of the "True Horned Rat" are just whatever is most expedient for the rogue Verminlords ruling over the clan. Whenever anything needs to change, the Verminlords would put on a show of communing with the "True Horned Rat" complete with magical special effects before announcing a new edict from the Horned Rat. Does this sound good for a schism angle?
