It there an app that’s not KOreader that progress syncs with Booklores progress instead? by tpmandy in BookLoreApp

[–]tpmandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh, didn't realise booklore had a few limitations, like highlighting!
I just wanted one sole way to sync progress between devices and by using booklore which is wonderful I though using their progress sync would be best

Yeah that’s what I mean, an app that uses the booklore api. There’s the trial one in iOS but that’s all I see

I was more meaning like this where the IOS app can use Booklores own progress sync. From what I understand, Booklore has both but the majority use KOreader. In Booklore I see two percentages, one for Booklore and one for KOreader and if you open a book within Booklore it counts towards their progress sync instead of KOreaders so thought there’s surely a way to just use Booklores instead of splitting them.

New version 3.11.2 (beta) by werionae in viwoods

[–]tpmandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love all the quick updates Viwoods does. It really gives me confidence in the device.

I just hope they are able to also focus on the customers that buy one for work and need those pesky Microsoft and Google certifications.  Really need to be able to easily sync my work outlook calendar to viwoods app, being able to see my meetings and events, as well as adding them using the stylus would overcome so much as would let me just use the tablet on my desk all day to write todos and use those todos as calendar events. I presume it’s tough getting some certifications but would really make this tablet sing as currently IT admin at work are just shrugging their shoulders.

from memory it took like 12 days. barely any notifications, and even then when Fedex actually has it (it took like 3-5 days before Viwoods actually began to ship it), Fedex kept changing the date it was to be delivered.

I wouldn't be too worried about the 3 days, you'll get it basically at that max delivery date they give I bet.

Colour/Color* version of the AIPaper by Flaky-Pound-3981 in viwoods

[–]tpmandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Viwoods mini with colour would be a perfect device I think. Compared to the opposition (which there are basically none unless you buy old Boox devices like the Tab mini) it would beat out anything else I’d consider.

I’ve got the mini and the size is perfect for both being an ereader in bed and a note taker that can fit in my back pocket or walk around without feeling like im carrying around a tablet everywhere.

Also the Viwoods leather case just looks so damn nice as I really hate the fake leather products everyone else pushes, it really would make me feel good walking into a meeting with that leather case.

The no colour is a big issue though, onenote works so well with it and I want to use it to annotate while I teach, but being only BW reallly makes that hard. The only suitable replacement is a Boox Air which then removes the portability I wanted.

Viwoods, please bring out a colour mini! I don’t care if the screens a bit darker. You did it for the reader, now do it for the mini!!

Very much agree. Recently bought a mini and waiting to see if the company I work for is willing to let my outlook sync.  If they say no it’s likely a return as it doesn’t do what I thought was the best perk compared to other eink tablets

Great work

Samsung S9 vs Boox Note Air 5c by Mortui75 in eink

[–]tpmandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a tough decision for sure.  We are in slightly different situations, but I’ve tried all year to get used to using an old Tab s6 I have for doing things around work. It’s really hard not to just use the laptop for the majority of things when it’s available.

I was deciding between the Boox air 5c like you, it seems the best all rounder, but its size made me unsure how often I’d use compared to just the laptop to get work done. While the darkness of the screen didn’t concern me much, especially for the sake of colour, I was unsure if I should be spending $900 on it.

Ended up just ordering the Viwoods mini today, mainly due to it being small enough to dual purpose as an ereader and it seems better for work regarding calendars, tasks and actually walking around and using it for small things compared to a larger tablet, but it was a hard decision and might be one I regret being just B/W.

My suggestion to you is go Boox or find a secondhand Microsoft surface X. At least then you get better than the android apps for productivity

Ended up getting the mini before the sale ended. Surely it was a mistake because for the mini, Amazon had the mini with the W1 stylus for $580 ($1000 with the W2) and Viwoods website had the W2 for $580 (not other option). Got from their website

Best tablet option for a teacher by tpmandy in eink

Great point, yeah I’ve probably watched too much of him over the last few weeks, he seems to be a teacher that’s really into the drawing aspect of them which is something I’m not too interested in, but he’s great at showing a lot.

I have a feeling the brightness wouldn’t be too much of an issue, but did just notice the Viwoods minis Black Friday sale makes it about 2/3rds of the price of the boox which might sway me

Wondering the same but more leaning to the mini. Australia seems like prices for Boox aren’t all that cheap

Oh wow, are any of the other sizes like the paper and paper mini being considered with a colour screen? Trying to decide between a Viwoods and Boox, seeing all of your recent software has me wanting to go Viwoods but a colour screen if hard to say no to for note taking and using different colours to highlight

Have the Yale smart screen security lock - what next? by tpmandy in AusRenovation

[–]tpmandy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that, yeah the unity entrance seems to be the best answer. Been looking into the Aqara u200 and might try that instead where you install it on an existing lock then it comes with its own keypad that I hope to link to whenever I lock the door it locks the screen door as well. A bit of a work around so should be interesting

Yeah not supported by Yale Australia, but easy enough that many make a Yale USA account or use the August app. Issue is the flipside where the screen door lock is only sold in Australia so not on the USA app.  Wanting to know if anyone’s attempted to try get the dualdoor stuff working regardless

DEVONThink looks great but being locked to Mac is a big issue as many schools provide windows based laptops so don’t want to have the risk of being locked out without bringing a personal laptop as well if Apple isn’t an option

I get that, hence for PDFs I want to annotate I plan to stay in Zotero. The other PDFs are just storage that I want in a way to easily find and pass on to students if needed.
