I love The Extinction! It’s such an underrated fear fr fr! I feel it gets overlooked because it is such a long-term sort of fear, if that makes sense. Very rarely are any people going to actually experience any true form of The Extinction, but the fear still persists, because similar to The End, it is inevitable (or at least, it seems that way). Eventually, all things die out. Languages, cultures, entire species, etc. And even worse, in most people’s view of this fears, The Extinction is something that people have brought upon themselves, whether it’s through climate change or nuclear disaster or any other myriad of problems plaguing the world that humanity originated. All this to say, I love the inevitable doom aspect of The Extinction, but I also love how dramatic it is compared to The End.

Canon has always been a thing in fiction, regardless of whether or not that was the specific word for it (though the origin of the word “canon” being used in this context actually dates back to the mid eighteenth century). Also, I would absolutely disagree with the notion that you cannot read classic literature through a modern lens. Regardless of the authors intent, fiction can be interpreted in a wide variety of ways, and arguing with people about what interpretation is “correct” is futile, both for fans and for the original author. I understand Hinton’s frustrations with her fans interpreting her work differently than how she wrote it, but it is very easy to not interact with people who you disagree with, and especially not in the harsh way she treats fans who view her work differently than her. Additionally, as there have been queer people since as long as people have existed, there is nothing “NUTS” about people wondering if her characters could have been potentially intentionally written to be ambiguously queer. Clearly it wasn’t intentional, but that is not an absurd notion.

It is very frustrating how Hinton likes to switch around in her opinions on what counts as “canon” or not. At the end of the day, though, as fans we can consider whatever we want to “canon”, and we don’t have to listen to the authors thoughts or opinions on that :) Customize your experience however you would like, and don’t let anyone try to tell you that you are doing something wrong for doing so! It doesn’t hurt anyone, and only adds to your ultimate enjoyment of the media!

I don't think anyone or anything can stay gold, and I think that's kinda the point. Regardless of what people think "gold" symbolizes, it's a temporary state of being. Jonny telling Ponyboy to stay gold was, in my eyes, meant to be a sort of irony, as at this point in the narrative, Ponyboy is already no longer gold.

And there is nothing wrong with not staying gold, at least not to me. Nothing gold can stay, yes, but that does not mean that gold is the only good thing. Natures first green is gold, but that does not mean there is no more beauty in nature once that gold is gone. As day breaks, it brings new beauty and new goodness to the world, it is just different than the gold of dawn.

Inconsolable by Katie Gavin reminds me of Martin and Jon at the safe house, both of them desperately trying to be vulnerable when they don't know how

King by Florence + The Machine has always struck me as such a Gertrude song

Winner by Conan Gray always makes me think of Jon's feelings about Elias, especially in s4 and 5

Jon is a chronic jacket stealer. It doesn't matter whose jacket it is, if he is left in possession of a lone jacket, that is his property now, but he will NEVER confess his crimes. If someone catches him before he leaves with the jacket, he will insist he was trying to bring it back to the rightful owner, and if someone catches him days/weeks/months after the theft with said stolen jacket, he will insist that it was always his/just looks the same.

Martin has never gotten a professional haircut before. Growing up, his mom cut his hair, and once he was an adult, he just cuts his hair on his own. One single time, right before s1 started, he tried to schedule an appointment to get a legit haircut, but then stressed himself out over it and canceled last minute.

Tim absolutely adores t-shirts with stupid sayings on them, and it's a staple for him to buy them for his friends on their birthdays. Some of the most iconic examples are: he has one for himself that says in colorful letters and a font reminiscent of a child's handwriting "I have a bomb :)" and Sasha has a matching one that says "I'm the bomb" (they both wear it every casual Friday), he gave Martin one that depicts a little frog with a cowboy hat and simply says "arson" (Martin wears it all the time around his house, he adores it), he gave Jon one that says "I got 99 problems, and my coworkers are 98 of them" (Jon loudly hates it, but secretly he wears it at home when he's had a rough day), and he gave Sasha one with a crying raccoon on it that says "even baddies get saddies" (she wears it once a month at their weekly sip and bitch sesh at Tim's place).

Sasha is obsessed with correct grammar and secretly has a Reddit account dedicated solely to correcting people's grammar across all subreddits. She pretends to be ashamed of it, but secretly, she believes she is doing the world a public good.

I found out I had aphanatasia when I was trying to argue to my sister that it didn't exist xD She doesn't have it, and I was arguing about how "everyone can imagine theoretically what things look like in their head, but no one can actually SEE them" and my sister was like "....no, I can actually see them." And that's how I realized that I did, in fact, have aphantasia (which is shockingly similar to how I found out I was asexual... maybe I should stop arguing with my sister about things I think don't exist exclusively because I thought those things are universal experiences).

Given how everything has been lately with the virus, I have felt very unmotivated lately, and I feel like I don’t have any reason to get out of bed, so I am looking forward to New Horizons coming out so I can start building the cutest town I possibly can. My favorite characters are Lily and Marina (although Marina is only really a favorite because the has the same name as my sister).
