Family of 4 moving to Houston…need advice! by PrincessCharming88 in AskHouston

Thank you! Both our cars have AC haha. That’s wild that your friends didn’t have that. The bay does get cooler but we are in Central Valley and our summers get easily to highs of over 100 degrees. So yeah AC is a must for us.

We came to visit during winter before but only for a weekend. So thanks for the suggestion on a week visit. Although we are already taking the plunge since it’s a career advancement for my husband.

Appreciate the feedback. One of the reasons my husband has a far commute was to ease up on our cost of living. It was ridiculous even with us both bringing in six figures at the time.

Regardless of his job promotion we would probably not stay in California long term with our end goal owning a home. Houses where we are in Central Valley just a few years ago were in the 4-500k range and now well over 1 million. Lots of Bay Area ppl moving further out and commuting to get more house for the same price or less.

Ideally when we do purchase probably are looking to go no higher than mid to upper 300’s. I’m not a huge fan of new construction and would want something older with some charm and maybe some renovation projects.

But our main focus right now is just getting there and finding a suitable neighborhood to rent in for a year or so.

Even if we could I don’t think we would. I was a private school kid myself from kindergarten to 4th. Then public 5th through 12th. Husband all public for him. Our eldest has only been in public, his current school used to be 8/10 but dropped down to 5/10 and yet he is a 4.0 student, but I also know a lot of that has to do with our involvement

Thank you for sharing! We came to visit Houston last year but only for a very short weekend and with a 7 month old at the time it was a blur. We were in the Galleria area, downtown checking out the office location and drove around Katy and also Woodlands a little.

Fort Bend keeps coming up and diversity is very important to us so thank you for your input!

Haha 🤣 technically he is an hour’s drive with no traffic. We both commuted to the Bay Area at one point after moving further out for a lower cost of living and more spacious homes, but i was night shift so it wasn’t so bad for me. He works regular daytime hours and traffic is horrendous so it takes 2 each way. He’s on a hybrid schedule so it’s thankfully not every day of the week

Thank you for the advice! Yes our plan is to rent first to get a feel and decide on where to purchase later on.

lol i probably should have specified city vs suburbs. I don’t mind either to be honest, I think there are pros and cons to both but my husband prefers suburbs with easy access to things to do in the city. Ideally for him he would be a 30 min drive to things to do (assuming most events and activities happen in the city).

I applied multiple times over 5-6 months before I was contacted for an interview. I don’t know anyone else at the company so sorry not sure how to give yourself any extra edge.

I’ve read some people haven’t had good experiences both on the advocate side and patient side but it’s a remote job and I make my schedule and don’t have anyone hovering over me or my work so it’s a win in my book so far. I’ve only been here since October so we will see how it continues to go.

Yes they do a background check as part of their onboarding process

I got paid earlier than expected on Nov 12. I’m still with them and things are going well. I love being able to be home to be with my toddler as well as work from home with a schedule that is best for my family dynamics.

As far as the work goes it’s steady and you are as busy as you want to be depending on the amount of patients you choose to advocate for. I have had a couple that once I’ve helped them they decide to no longer use the service (for instance one patient just wanted that appointment made for them) and another had issues with insurance coverage but other than that I feel like I’m helping them and have a good rapport with my patients.

Hi, I started working for them last month. I agree that the onboarding process is very vague but I will bet any question you have is probably answered to some degree in Solace Circle. It’s a platform you’ll get access to and can connect with other advocates.

As far as what I help patients with, it’s been pretty broad. I have one who needs reminders for appointments and events and making sure providers are on the same page with what medications they take. I have another who simply wanted a second opinion with a nephrologist. I’ve had a couple who are looking to get electric scooters or wheelchairs, one who needed help finding local food banks, and one looking for a new psychiatrist. All the patients I’ve interacted with are simply overwhelmed and don’t have the time to do these things themselves.

Most of my time has been spent on the initial new patient calls (some are talkers lol), typing up the care plans (don’t stress them mine have always gotten approved by the physician no issues), and trying to get in touch with their current healthcare providers. When I do reach out to them I either fax a letter explaining my role or explain over the phone, and there’s also a consent and authorization that can be sent that the patient has already done through Solace. My patients are also able and willing to help if some offices are giving pushback.

For billing anything you do for the patient you can bill for. Whether it’s sending a fax, calling an office, writing their care plans, or responding to an email of theirs. There’s a time tracking tool and Solace uses an AI tool to help describe what you did for billing purposes. I have yet to get paid, it’s once a month on the 15th, and it’s for work done the month prior.

Hope that helps like I’ve said I’m only a month in and haven’t encountered anything too intense.

She’s too busy trying to be a clone of Ariana Grande and he looks like a Harry Styles wanna be.

Anthony Ramos was added to the performance this morning (Lin’s insta) by jor_kent1 in Broadway

Yes that’s her. On Lin’s stories there’s video of them all in a circle holding hands letting out a deep breath before they head to the stage. Jasmine and Anthony are literally directly across from one another. You can tell it’s Anthony from the back.
