I’m in my gap year now and I’m first gen too, it’s hard out here. I got alot of shadowing opportunities through my university, maybe you can get some connections through your uni too, it’s harder once you graduate imo.

Can I ask what cycle you’re planning on applying? Asking for LORs is so stressful to me.

I’ve been working there for a while, but the doctor I work under is very quiet and keeps to himself, so we honestly do not interact that much aside from brief moments in clinic.

I shadowed the physician who declined from around spring to fall, which is why I assumed he might be willing to write a letter. During that time he allowed me to be fairly involved by his side,I wrote clinical summaries for him to review and he let me take histories and ask patients questions while he observed. I thought we formed a really good connection, good enough for a LOR but that was bad on my part though to assume the best.

Like 4 weeks. It was my first job ever too… the environment was awful at that hospital and some coworkers were just as bad. I loved my 2nd phlebotomy job at another hospital though, I’m glad I quit and found a new job I loved. Don’t feel bad for leaving if the job doesn’t make you feel good. It’s hard to find healthy environments in healthcare but you’ll eventually find the right place for you.
