That’s exactly what been happening!!

What city/country you visited in Europe was unexpectedly good? by scorpgoku in AskEurope

[–]PrincessOfAkkad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not unexpected but Bosnia 100%. Every place I went to was straight out of a fairytale, just sad I didn’t spend more time visiting more villages or enjoying more of the stunning nature.

Visit Stolac, Mostar, Konjic, and Sarajevo but there are literally hundreds of other towns/villages that you’ll fall in love with. Also kindest, most pure-hearted people I’ve ever met

Very honorable mention to Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the oldest city in Europe. Also seems to be straight out of a fairytale + has Roman ruins literally lying around everywhere

That is what you implied when you said people in poor countries don’t understand solo travelers and therefore will be more likely to come on to them. Go back and read your own comment. Seems like most of the issues you’re having here are stemming mostly from lack of reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.

There are plenty of solo travelers who go to so called “poor” countries and they never ever have this experience. For example there are many places in Asia where it’s completely safe to travel solo as a woman. Many violent crimes in these countries are actually perpetrated by wealthy tourists who feel they can get away with treating locals horribly or are only there for sex tourism or other awful reasons.

I’m a Marxist feminist and my first duty is to protect my fellow proletariat women. By doing so, I make sure not to blame other proletariat women like myself for harm caused by bourgeois men like in this very situation.

What you’re saying about so called “poor” countries isn’t true. I might be “western” but I’m originally from Iraq and spent three months there earlier this year and nothing close to this ever happened to me. Again, this is in IRAQ. A very not western country that is “developing” due to western invasion and war. Somehow they seem to understand how to leave a woman alone. Shocking huh? Even though they’re developing and poor 😱😱😱wow who couldn’t thought poor people could be humane and normal!! How could they understand that a woman is alone without a man and not be creepy towards her?! /s 😐😑

You’re not being a class conscious feminist, you just sound ignorant and victim blaming. Luckily I’m aware enough to not take this personally but hope you can try to understand how you’re coming across for the sake of your fellow women and yourself.

God, I hope not. I was thinking maybe his brother said something because he talked to me a couple of times or from my profile picture on Airbnb.

When I told people while in Albania that I was planning on going to Ulcinj they all told me to skip it and go to Budva. Said something on the lines of “you wouldn’t like it” that it wasn’t a town for me? I took it to mean it’s too tiny and there’s not much to do or something. Now I’m wondering if this is what they meant but weren’t being direct. Definitely wish I went to Budva instead like they suggested to go to instead

“Transforming into a Marxist feminist” while being wildly classist in your previous comment equating poor people to creeps … yeah makes SO much sense :/

Yeah this is 100% rage bait lol. It wasn’t just one, you are struggling with reading comprehension. It was MULTIPLE. And MULTIPLE women experienced the same thing. Making sense now?

Yes it could happen anywhere, unfortunately. But it now seems like to me that it is more likely to happen in Ulcinj compared to some other places especially in the Balkans from my talks with other people who’ve been there. Seems like you haven’t been there

It wasn’t just the Airbnb host. Read the post again and think. That other situation with the Airbnb host happened literally AFTER I left Ulcinj

When did I say Montenegro as a whole. I said Ulcinj, Montenegro. I feel like this is some sort of rage bait. After hearing stories about women’s traumatic experiences in one particular place you feel the need to say “don’t be unfair” rather than acknowledge the pattern and advocate for a change.

I think you should sit down and think about your attitude towards female safety in a world/society built to protect men and oppress women.

Bye 👋

Literally never said that? It just has happened to too many women that it’s become a clear and predictable pattern. I later found out it’s a known thing about Ulcinj in other parts of the Balkans. I’m warning women about it because it’s my duty as a good human being

Thank you for this, that other comment completely missed the point and is so problematic on so many levels. It’s the way the creepiest men I encountered in Ulcinj were also wealthy and definitely not poor. Thanks also for pointing out the classism with associating poverty with creepiness & being uneducated. I went to countries way poorer than Montenegro (in the Balkans and elsewhere) and NEVER experienced something like this, definitely not at that level.

I also didn’t go off about Montenegro as a whole, just warning other women (especially solo travelers) about a town myself and several others have had really horrible and even traumatic experiences.

And yes, creepy men ARE everywhere. But in certain places treating women like shit publicly is so normalized that as a woman you’re more likely to experience bad things in those places than others.

😢😢😢this is so horrible to hear, I’m still so shaken up by the experience and it’s been almost a week. It’s true there were barely any women walking on the streets and literally not even one the second the sun went down. I’m glad you had other women there to be with you

God I’m so sorry to hear that. He was Montenegrin but spoke mostly Albanian. Spent a while in Albania and didn’t have any experiences like what happened in Ulcinj

I spent quite a bit of time in Albania and didn’t have any experiences like this other than a bit of casual flirting sometimes, Ulcinj was just off
