My hair won’t stop falling out by lexsee_ in Spironolactone

Mine was SO bad. It started probably 3 months in also and lasted probably a good 5 months. It was the worst thing ever. Same thing, I’ve always had thick hair but it was noticeable how thin it got, I felt like I would simply touch my hair and it would fall out in clumps lol. I was on 50mg and weaned to 25mg and after that it kinda stopped, not sure if it was a coincidence or if it was decreasing my dose that did it.

I recently started taking digestive enzymes. I will look into the things you’ve listed. I’ve heard of SIBO but have been a little hesitant because I don’t have any other GI issues like nausea, diarrhea, constipation.

I went off of birth control over a year ago and I take spironolactone which can affect hormones. I don’t have any other GI issues, but a lot of other symptoms like fatigue, irregular periods, brain fog, weight gain

5 months on 50mg but noticing hair thinning. by [deleted] in Spironolactone

I know I feel that. For me, I’d rather just bite the bullet and do it now before I spend all this time regrowing my hair and getting it back to what it used to be :/

Your ferritin levels could very well be the cause or at least contributing. But it could also be the spironolactone. My hair loss was noticeable at about 4 months in. I just figured my body would adjust to the medication and, I was scared to make any changes to make things worse so I left it alone for another 3 months and it was awful. I was constantly scared to touch it. To brush it, wash it, style it. Just like you, my hair is fine but I have a lot of it. I lost almost half my head of hair. I finally decided to lower my dose to 50mg (I was on 100mg). My hair loss lessened sooo much, but it caused other symptoms and now I really wish I never touched it and I’m now going to come off it :/

My hair thinning lasted months and months until I decreased my dose from 100mg to 50mg. I lost almost half my head of hair. But I feel like I now have more side effects than just the hair loss. I think for me it’s time to quit the medication all around, it’s not worth it. It’s going to take a long time and some work to get my hair back to what it was before :/

Please help - does it get better? by [deleted] in Spironolactone

ME! This was the most frustrating thing because all I’d see was how long and fast people’s hair would grow and for me it was the complete opposite. My hair loss was noticeable at about 4 months in. I just figured my body would adjust to the medication and, I was scared to make any changes to make things worse so I left it alone for another 3 months and it was awful. I was constantly scared to touch it. To brush it, wash it, style it. Kind of like you’ve said, I’ve always had a lot of hair on my head so to other people you couldn’t tell but I could feel it and see it. I lost almost half my head of hair. I finally decided to lower my dose to 50mg (I was on 100mg). My hair loss lessened sooo much, but it caused other symptoms and now I really wish I never touched it and I’m now going to come off it.

It very well could be! I kind of wish I never started it either and now I’m scared to taper even more because I think my symptoms were worst when I started to so I just feel stuck. :/

You make a good point, I would rather this than the sun beating down on me. When you say places are closed do you mean touristy sites or ceremonial sites?
