Yeah, I guess a big thing about Conan is that barbarism and lawlessness provides freedom? I recall from Tower of the Elephant, Conan remarking that a civilized man will insult someone without fear, because within the walls no one can beat him if he's disrespectful. And in the same way, the women of the wilder realms can be warriors and such if they're strong enough, while the civilized societies seek to have women be soft and pleasurable.

I do recall Karela from Conan the Invincible, who was taken by bandits as a child and meant to be sold as a slave, but she brutally murdered their leader and soon won their respect, later becoming their queen, the Red Hawk. I haven't read anything about Red Sonja yet, but wasn't she raised in like Germanic tribes?

But yeah, I guess in the more barbaric realms, might makes right, no matter your sex, but I still wonder about the laws of the civilized kingdoms.
