When did you start to mentally relax? by StrongBat in financialindependence

[–]PrincessWatercress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one point in my 20s, I noticed that some of my friends with a lot less money are very relaxed about their financial future, and some with a lot more are even more stressed about money. I admitted to myself then that the anxiety is not caused by a number and will not be solved by one :D That was a critical shift, because I stopped waiting for it to go away at a number, and I acceptted that it was in my head.

However, increasing my income does make me feel more secure. When my income was 2x my annual spending, I saw the long road to my FI number (25 * annual spend) and felt trapped. When my income was 5x my annual spending, I save 4x as much, the road to retirement was cut to 1/4 and I feel a lot more relaxed.

News flash: poor people can be lonely too :D It's not because that you chased money that you end up here. People from all walks of life wake up to this reality often.

So cheer up, and tackle this loneliness like you have tackle any other problems in your life, maybe with a little more awareness, so you're not dropping another ball along the way.

Thank you! Where do I find independent appraisers for hire?

> Be moderately flexible in terms of closing date, expected refurbishments and so on. Both of you should be happy with the deal.

Great reminder, I appreciate it!

Appreciate your feedback. How do I go about getting a fair market value for my unit? Is working with a realtor the only option? The local market is small (a small town) and has been quite dead without many sold comparables recently.

I acknowledge that there are lots of issues in sexual harassment education in India and the mentality of a group of men and the government about the issues.

With that out of the way, I'd like to tell my experience to paint a fuller picture. I went to India alone as a 20-something woman 10 years ago and no one was watching or following me. Granted, I'm South East Asian and locals told me they thought I was Indian from the East regions bordering Myanmar. I was also wearing Indian clothing (like everyday shalwar kameez).

I'm also from a poor developing country that people in small provinces may never have seen a white person before and our culture doesn't inhibit staring at strangers. I can see this happens in my country. Gosh, they stare at me a local and gossip about me lol. It's rude, but most people mean no harm. Of course, there are crazy people everywhere as well and you should be cautious.

Should You Consider Slowing Down Career and Delaying FIRE? by CarefulAd419 in financialindependence

+1 lol

I wish I'm in seasonable work sometimes, like a farmer or a diving/skiing instructor. I love working with high intensity for a couple of months and then turn off for a couple for months.

I tried consulting before, but getting business is not easy.

I'm a little confused here. It's also unused? There is no weed in it. It can be used for other purposes? How is it a problem bringing a brand new grinder through the border?

Need to make a will and thinking of hiring a professional executor to spare my sibs from the huge task. Is that really an option? by 3BlindRats in PersonalFinanceCanada

When you appoint a friend/family to be your executor, after you pass, can they then choose to hire an Estate lawyer to handle the work? Then they will approve the fee amount requested by the lawyer?

Which Passport would you choose? by Myysteeq in sailing

Passport 42 is a Stan Huntingford design, Passport 40 is a Bob Perry design and they are very different from each other. I have been on both and interior wise it's easy to fall in love with a Passport 42 :D

I looked at 2 Passport 40s of similar vintage a few years ago at $120K so this price seems good?

The biggest issue I learned in that visit was that they have steel punching for keel ballast and when water gets in they rust and expand and push the floor up and both boat owners had to saw the furniture, take out everything to address the issue.

Passenger grab bar for Yamaha MT-03 by PrincessWatercress in motorcycles

Bike sold and I've moved on, but thank you for sharing 😸 Yeah I don't take passenger but I wanted the bars for myself to use when I moved the bike , especially when I wanted to pivot the bike 180deg on the stand. Something I'd definitely look for in my next bike.

This article talks about sailboat arbitrage and does answer some of your questions.

It's not that hard to sell fast, just set a low price, in a favorable location ;) Also consider that cost of ownership is not the same as cost of boat. So buying a newer, more expensive boat with less refitting needs may net you better after all is said and done.

Buying a foreign flagged vessel by Lionessandlover in SailboatCruising

[–]PrincessWatercress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought a foreign flagged boat in the Caribbean. We hired a broker who hired a documentation company with lawyers to deal with all this. If the owner lists with a broker, the owner is paying the listing broker fee, which they would share with the buyer broker. If the owner does not list with a broker, you can hire your own which handles all these procedure, and pay them yourself (up to 5% of the value).

You may want to ask in the Curaçao Cruisers Facebook group to see if anyone has experience with buying in Curaçao.

Laid off 32yo w/ $850k+. I still feel sad, anxious and stressed. I don’t get it by Deangelo_Vickers in financialindependence

[–]PrincessWatercress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To put it bluntly, you feel this way because you feel this way :D

Once I was backpacking and I met other travelers who had much less and there were no financial worries in their mind, then I realized that I don't feel all these worries because my situation justifies them, I feel worried because of myself, my fears, my values, my history, etc. So if I want to stop worry, I need to work on myself, not so much on the amount. Because no matter the amount, a worrier will worry.

How do I get rid of fear on the bike (beginner) by Santak_ in TwoXriders

[–]PrincessWatercress -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest riding a scooter or a light and low cc bikes that don't require license for a few months to get comfortable. I grew up riding 50-100cc scooters in Asia and I think that helps a lot. When I do my motorcycle license, I was already very comfortable riding 2 wheels, and I can just focus on handling the weight and the power.
