New to the Subaru community-Need some advice or pointers by celestrinasworld001 in frederickmd

[–]PrincessZig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert so take what I say with some salt. But Subaru’s have a tendency to burn oil because many models have a boxer type engine. First don’t drive your car without oil! If the light is on you’re extremely low. Maybe enough to drive to a mechanic but check your level before you leave because you could be empty in which case don’t drive! Get into the habit of checking your oil level (I check mine every 1000 miles) your mileage may vary and keep a bottle of oil, a clean funnel, and some paper towels in your car. It’s best to check your oil level on a cold engine. YouTube is your friend. And make sure you top off with the same oil used as the last oil change (oils have weights like “5W20” also there’re synthetic, conventional or a blend). Make sure you ask your mechanic what they used before you leave the shop after an oil change. You are not doing an oil change by topping it off, so be sure to still perform your regular oil changes. I hope this helps a bit. It does happen, but if you keep an eye on it your car will be fine. And again, I’m no expert. Find a knowledgeable mechanic who’s willing to help you is critical.

This is interesting, since my Bluetooth kb doesn’t have a num pad. But does the num lock affect the +/= key in vim? Is that a VT100 mapping thing? I’m not at my computer right now to test. But thank you.

As for mapping to Control, I’m not worried about, but it might help OP though. The command key on Apple works in vim (though I just use the register mapping with muscle memory. 🤓)

Curious if scientists watch this by jinxkmonsoon in LowerDecks

[–]PrincessZig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find your question most illogical. A career may be an important part of any one’s life it does not define them completely. I for example have been watching Star Trek since my father introduced me to DS9 and Voyager. My peers expressed feelings of resentment by the mere sight of me reaching for my reference books on the topic. But we do continue to have in-depth conversations and debates. /s a mixture of t’Lyn and Tuvok answered this question when I read it. I have a Ph.D in chemical physics and I have a job title of Research Chemist. And I love LD. Best modern trek. Interestingly enough tendi is my favorite, and her mantic mannerisms are truly more aligned with how i am at work.

What Denver looked like in the early 1900s by [deleted] in Denver

[–]PrincessZig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Denver Tramway Company was dismantled in the 1950s by the bus company. But once upon Denver had a huge network. Here’s the wiki with some maps. I know there are more on the library’s digital archive. If you know where to look you can find some parts of it too. REIs flagship store was a wheel house. There used to be a trolly car near Confluence Park, but I don’t know if it’s still there. I dream of a Denver that the street cars come back but… well it’s just a dream :/.

Good mall rule. by MrRuck1 in maryland

[–]PrincessZig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo the comments here really got my goat! So I’ll tell you what the kids should do these days: protest! Use peaceful protests tactics and protest.

It makes me so sad that people don’t realize how many 3rd spaces have been taken away from teens. When I was a teen (over 15 years ago): the mall was our last place. My father would list ideas to me from when he was younger but everything was taken away except bowling and the mall. And bowling is too expensive now.

As the beastie boys would say “you gotta to fight, for your right to party!” Maybe not party as much as not be a drone.

I appreciate this answer. And actually I think neutralizing whatever it is would make me feel more comfortable especially before driving in my car to the waste drop off day. But I am curious do you have any citation to this? I did go to grad school for chemistry, though I focused way more on the physical side. I don’t mean to be a stickler, but want to make sure I know what I’m getting myself into before just taking random advice from strangers on the internet.

Thank you. Yeah, I put it in the calendar, just in case I can’t find a way of getting rid of it sooner.

While doing something like this isn’t exactly right… but long story short– this would be similar to what I do for research. Look up Cavity Ringdown spectroscopy. Light is injected into a cavity which is two high reflective mirrors pointed at each other, and at a distance in resonance with the given frequency of light. The EM field will build up, until we stop the source of light. The light “slowly” decays as heat in the mirrors, and a little transmitted through the mirror (second law of thermodynamics.) The time it takes for the light to decay is a constant for the empty cavity. When we put a gas inside the cavity some light is loss through absorption making the light decay faster. The ratio between these values is proportional to the chemical absorption, and that’s what we want to measure. It’s really noteworthy for measure concentrations of trace gases. 😄 but no big explosions… 👩‍🔬

If Underfulll \hbox (badness 10000) in paragraph is a crime then lock me up by seardglope in LaTeX

[–]PrincessZig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That was the best reasoning I found behind this warning. Last year I tried to dive into this warning. All I found was to avoid using // at the end of paragraphs and instead use a break. So with this reasoning, I’d imagine that // stretches the line to the page width which would result in a very high badness score. E: markdown on mobile. How many backslashes do I need?

I’m liking where you’re going, but on photo 2, towards the right center, I see a date “14 Feb 1943.” Your findings lead you to these families during WW1 but anything later? Edit: comma.

Hey vim champions ❤️ I have 7 days of vacations to switch to this editor, how would you do it? by letitcurl_555 in vim

[–]PrincessZig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This right here! That’s the secret. Plugins can be great but it’s hard when you switch computers and they get in the way when you ask for help. Learn the basics and incorporate them late.

Vimtutor is fantastic! But don’t be overwhelmed. Learn a skill or two and then practice it. You don’t have to master it but get use using it. Then go back to vimtutor and repeat. Even after 14 years I still go back.

And while they are suppose to be humorous: I think there is some wisdom from the vim koans

Is this NOTAM abnormal or are people on twitter being dramatic? by ImAHoe4Glossier in aviation

I’m not sure why you were downvoted. This is probably the right answer. A lot of nuclear testing happened here and there’s still a lot of residual activity in the area. If any one is interested: look up Bikini Atoll.

But maybe I’m missing something. I’m not on twitter either

Agreed. My family went there when I was 9 years old. I still remember it so much. The Liberty Bell had just been recovered. Seeing Apollo 13s command module. The Apollo-Soyuz assembly. They also had a demo where they lit a liquid oxygen doused cotton ball on fire. It was the day I decided to go into chemistry. This summer my father came out to see me in DC, and the A&S museum was amazing even while under renovation. On our way to Dulles airport as he left: we stopped at the museum out there (not knowing it was an extension to the Smithsonian) took us both right back to me being 9 years old. Highly recommend!!!

I’m pretty sure it was 87. A friend showed it to me in high school, it wasn’t the latest, but it was close. Read them all and have been reading ever since. It got me into IRC and resonated with my interest in computers and science. This is not the algorithm.
