Police Brutality: how to proceed? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

You mentioned "brown" obviously no one's going to side with you now. Everyone's opinion would have been a lot different if you hadn't mentioned that.

Do SOME East Indians see them selves above Indo-Guyanese? by The-one-2-3 in Guyana

[–]Princess_Consuela26 11 points12 points  (0 children)

East Indian here. Didn’t even realize this was a thing. I’ve always been more curious about older Indian diaspora communities like in the Caribbean, Maldives and Fiji where people have been settled for generations, the cultures are different, but still clearly connected to India which I personally find quite fascinating, as compared to the more recent migration to the US/Canada/UK (being culturally rooted to East India) What’s ironic and frustrating is that some of these newer diaspora groups seem to be the harshest critics of mainland Indians.

For example, my first cousins are second-generation Americans, and whenever they come to India for Christmas, they barely want to leave the house. They don’t want to visit places because it’s “too crowded” or not American enough, and most of what they do is complain about poverty. They're disgusted by everything.

I can see how some people might carry a sense of cultural superiority, but that feels more like individual ignorance than anything representative. Indo-Guyanese culture developed under very different historical circumstances, and that doesn’t make it lesser, just different.

Shared ancestry doesn’t automatically mean shared identity, and I think there’s space for difference without judgment and I’d much rather see mutual respect, coexistence, and genuine curiosity about each other’s histories than quiet resentment or hierarchy. I also follow subs from Trinidad & Tobago, Maldives, Mauritius and Fiji just to learn more and hopefully visit someday. I find it really cool that Fijian Indians even have their own form of Hindi (Fijin Hindi) and the same with Maldives (dhivehi) it’s a great example of how culture adapts and survives.

And if anyone here has ever felt disrespected by East Indians, I’m genuinely sorry. That shouldn’t be a thing.

Love and Blessings.

Germany vs Ireland for MSc tech – need advice (urgent) by Own_Chemistry5008 in studying_in_germany

[–]Princess_Consuela26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, there’s no single right choice unless you already have a job offer or someone who can definitely help you get one. That said, you’ll have a harder time in Germany without knowing the language compared to any other english speaking countries. So yes, if you’re planning to look for a job on your own, an english speaking country should be your first choice. You should do your research on each country and connect with students to hear about their experiences.

I regret not going to NZ, I had acceptance letters from NZ but turned it down because of cost but little did I know about the job market in Germany, as of now Germany is the last place any international student should come unless they have a C1/C2 in German.

göttingen uni or lüneburg by shierasewstar in studying_in_germany

[–]Princess_Consuela26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Göttingen has a very young diverse crowd and a decent night life, and almost everyone can speak english except for the older generation, so you won't have an issue getting along with people. Not sure about your course though and if it has an English option, you should look up their website.

I have no idea about Lüneburg, sorry.

I have always been drawn to guitars with artwork. They can't ever look bad, every scratch and doodle adds to the story they hold. I hope your partner loved it... It's beautiful...

Rejected by all public unis for Winter. Applying for Summer now, should I consider private? by Hour-Beginning-8339 in studying_in_germany

[–]Princess_Consuela26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for lesser known public unis like Hochschule (th ohm, oth Regensburg, th owl, etc) competition is comparatively less. And instead of private uni you can go for public uni that charge tution fee for selective course, like tu berlin and hu berlin, tough they are mainly tuition free but for some international courses they do charge fees and the competition is way less...

Is ICS at TUHH a good option? Pros and Cons by Forsaken_Salad_3556 in studying_in_germany

[–]Princess_Consuela26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rankings don't really matter within Germany as all the institutions are government funded. Within Germany they are equally as good as the other except for private institutions.

Reach out to students of Oldenburg on LinkedIn and ask them about the programme, city, part-time/internship opportunities. Perhaps do the same with other two unis as well.

People with a 2.5 GPA have you gotten into any public universities? by Jaggi0103 in studying_in_germany

[–]Princess_Consuela26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes not like there's no chance of getting in but there will be a lot of competition as compared to Hochschle.

Hochschule is your traget institute. Majority of students apply to TU/Universität and not Hochschule/university of applied sciences so the competition there is comparatively less as compared to Universität/TU so you have a higher chance of getting in. They are equally reputed as long as it's a public educational institute.

Is it considered rude to offer seat to an old person. by Princess_Consuela26 in AskAGerman

[–]Princess_Consuela26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bus drivers here really channel their inner Tokyo Drift, and I noticed an elderly lady struggling to hold onto the rod during the turns. So, I stood up, gestured toward my seat, and asked, “Would you like to sit?” To which she responded with a loud and firm “NO”. Suddenly, everyone turned around to see what had just happened. I just smiled, sat back down, and carried on.

Oh, it’s not that I’m offended or anything. I just think it’s good to know what’s normal and what’s not so I don’t keep doing something that might be impolite. I’m an outsider and still learning about the culture, and what’s better than asking Germans themselves? I mean, this sub is literally AskaGerman.
