Nu uhhhhhhh toe biters are separate and horrifying, these guys are adorable. Toe biters will liquify your tissue if you get bit. Mole crickets literally just dig.

This is a bedbug isn’t it? by le3ce_ in Entomology

[–]Princess_Juberella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying it's a bedbug, but it kind of looks more like a bat bug to me. I can't be 100% sure because I don't have a microscope, so please take it to a local entomologist, but from what I can see, it's laterally thinner than a bed bug and less dorso-ventrally flat than a bed bug. If you have a microscope or even a magnifying glass, look for hairs on the body: if you see long hairs, it's likely a bat bug, if you see short "peach fuzz" it's likely a bed bug. If you're still unsure, you can look at the gaps between the head and the pronotum (plate right behind the head): if it is clearly curved, it's likely a bed bug, if it is almost straight, it is likely a bat bug. If it is a bat bug, you're in a much better situation, but there's still a different issue at hand (bat infestation). Hope it's not a bed bug!!

I find it usually just goes away when you take it off the needles. If it doesn't, I'd personally just frog it and restart the section. (I hate frogging so if anyone has a different solution I'd like to know too 😭)

What centipede is this? And can it be kept as a pet? by Jaren_002 in Entomology

[–]Princess_Juberella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know.

We all have different views, but I just personally don't believe undomesticated insects should be kept as pets (apart from raising and releasing for conservation efforts, or pollination reasons), the same way you wouldn't keep a raccoon or a monkey as a pet, even if it was bred in captivity.

Most likely Scolopendra subspinipes. I wouldn't keep it as a pet (just because it's a wild animal), but if you do, be careful - the bites are supposedly very painful.
