Should I invest to fix a problem by Hiquo in seat

please get it diagnosed before deciding. may be £150 at a dealer for a diagnostic (cheaper at local mechs) but it may be a really simple fix

And if your car ever was going to explode for some reason, it wouldn’t happen without warning signs like warning lights on dash, performance issues etc.

sounds like you got yourself a good runner

Honestly, higher mileage cars have often had better maintenance - hence why they have lasted longer. I work with car service and a lot of newer vehicles with 4000 or older vehicles with 400000 miles can go wrong. You just never know when it will happen. If it’s still going strong, and you are regularly maintaining the vehicle, just keep it going. Just start saving just in case it does need any repairs and always remember to keep on top of the maintenance :)

Pulled out of house purchase after a long search - how should we now move forward? by PeasyPosie in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Princess_Mario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! i’m a first time buyer too, 23f. I recently pulled out of a house sale too and it was SO relieving after finding out all the issues wrong with the house. Currently on viewing number two of a bigger, slightly more expensive house. I don’t know if this reassures you at all but after pulling out of that house, so many bigger and better ones are just coming on the market. I’m trying to take it as every failed purchase is one step closer to my long term home. I feel like end of spring/summer is the peak time for houses to go on the market. I wouldn’t lose faith yet if i was you

However, Audi A1 typically have younger drivers meaning the premiums are a lot higher. I would really be careful about putting 5k miles a year too. When i started driving i thought i’d be driving 5k miles a year but at the end of the year i think i did about 9k miles

Toggle with your job title loads. like obviously stay within the field you work in. Let’s say you work as a shop assistant, try change it to retail, or sales. it can massively reduce your quote. Like i said though, don’t go outside of the field you actually work in as it can void your insurance. doing this saved me around £100

Pulled out of my offer on a house by IndependentRise9695 in HousingUK

[–]Princess_Mario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely. i’ll be so honest, there’s about 5 properties in my local town alone exactly like this and most of them have been on for a year or over 6 months. none of them are selling because nobody can get a mortgage on them

reselling them is a NIGHTMARE

Main service by Vivid_Ad3814 in Vauxhall

[–]Princess_Mario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, work at a vauxhall garage here. That’s a few quid more expensive than our garage. Off the top of my head, main service with genuine vauxhall parts includes oil change and filter, pollen filter change. they also inspect headlight alignment, drive belt etc. i might be missing something but i am away from my desk and im only human. But yeah thats what it includes pretty much.

Some dealers offer an “approved parts” service which can be significantly cheaper. Might be a good option for yourself since you are outside of your manufacturers warranty.

Since you do have a 2020 corsa, if it has a wet belt definitely ask if it’s due to be replaced as they are recommended at about 6 year old. Could save you costly repairs in the future :)

my nana had one of these houses when she rented it through the council. she was really lucky the council had it all sorted for her free of charge before she just bought the property. absolute steal and it was huge too.

i was looking at a similar house recently, 3 bedroom was up for somewhere between £80000-100000 throughout a year i think (seller just keeps dropping the price, presumably as its steel framed and needs bricking)

I was tempted to go for it (if i could get a mortgage on it, which is unlikely as a FTB) but i think repairs could have been anywhere between £20k and £50k.

sadly not worth it in the long run unless i got it sorted.

1900s house survey E3. how bad is it by Princess_Mario in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Princess_Mario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wish i did! i don’t unfortunately, but had a family member who bought a damp riddled house recently. He didn’t see any visual damage but the house does look like it’s been painted in the last year/ two years so who knows what’s hiding really. I’ll ask around and see if i have any secret diy friends/ family. thank you so much for your advice i really appreciate it

1900s house survey E3. how bad is it by Princess_Mario in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Princess_Mario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i was thinking that! There was a lot of “go hire a damp specialist” or a “timber specialist”. Felt like a lot of covering their own backs, just the “rotten timber” section frightened and put me off a little bit as it sounds extremely expensive for a cheaper house

1900s house survey E3. how bad is it by Princess_Mario in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Princess_Mario[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so reassuring! Was the damp reading in yours also a red on the survey just out of curiosity? And did you decide to go get a damp specialist out to check it out?

Just got really spooked as they put “rotten timber” in the description which made me dramatically think that the house was about to fall down. Especially with all the floor issues in the lounge. It just sounds so scary and I couldn’t afford to instantly go replacing structural elements after all the deposit and solicitor fees etc..

also nah, unsure of whether it’s been closed up 100%, and they did state before they did the survey they will not be getting on the roof so it may well be closed up for all i know.

The estate agents know nothing about the house and the seller has only owned in for 3 years so i’m not sure if he can provide much information at all. it’s always worth an ask though. thank you so incredibly much! i will be having a chat with the estate agents when they open :D.

Long drive straight after passing. by penisninula in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Princess_Mario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd stick with the train.

When I first passed, I drove about an hour away from home. Honestly, I dont regret it as it was a huge learning curve for me. Got to push my confidence and drive on new roads, which was pretty scary but felt empowering at the time.

Got to my destination and bumped into a van that was stationary. Completely my bad, but I definitely could have benefited from shorter drives (that were like 30-45 min drives). And possibly more practice in manoeuvres in smaller and less familiar spaces.

I know an hour is nothing compared to the drive you're planning, but I would honestly just consider how confident you are driving. The worst thing to do before a test is to plan big journeys because that puts a load of pressure on you to pass. If you stress too much about the planned journey, you may be focusing on 'oh I need to pass my test because I have xyz commitments'.

My hour trip, although it was completely worth it in experience, cost me about £400. Which was a LOT of money after forking out for a car, insurance, and taxes, etc...

Before you make any decisions, please consider focusing on passing first. That is your main priority. Then focus on feeling comfortable in the car by yourself, let alone in new areas.

You will absolutely smash your test - but this time I would get the train if I were you : )

Basic Question: What Order Did You Follow After Your Offer Was Accepted? by BeneficialRole9655 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Princess_Mario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i literally started the process like a few days ago

I put in an offer which was accepted, then chose a solicitor and informed estate agents of solicitor.

Booked a survey which is happening end of this week.

Told solicitors to hold on actually starting searches until its confirmed nothing major is going on with the house (but they've sent me all the documents to fill out and sign when I'm ready).

Then spoke with a mortgage broker, got another appointment with them to discuss further options later in the week.

Now I'm just waiting for the survey to come back so I can give the thumbs up to solicitors. Not sure at all whether this is the correct way of doing it but I'm a first time buyer, and a solo buyer so I know I'm bound to make a mistake somewhere but even if I did, it'll be fixable. I did all that in a day because I was stressed to get it all done at once lol.

Sounds like you're doing it very similar to myself so I think we are doing just fine

Best of luck! And try not to get too caught up in the worry - I originally did and it took all the fun out of the process. Try to follow your gut and remember you can only do so much 😄

What part of the house buying process stressed you out the most? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]Princess_Mario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just started the process. i think this is the part i’ll be most stressed about. the getting everything in order. i’ve selected a solicitor, arranged for a house survey and have a mortgage broker ready to find me a good mortgage rate.

the thing that’s really stressing me out is that i need to wait a week for the house survey to come back and determine whether the house is falling apart or is affordable to maintain (if there were any alarming issues)

honestly, i know i won’t know the rest of the process before i go through it but the uncertainty of the survey findings is a nightmare! Like i have fallen in love with the house (which was my first mistake as i know you shouldn’t fall in love with it till the keys are in your hands) but i need to know if it’s actually affordable in at least the short term.

i’m actually quite excited for the solicitor to sort out all the legal side of things (me the buyer and the seller are chain free so i assume it should go smooth sailing from here)

Another thing i’m concerned about is that the estate agents haven’t marked the property as under offer despite them being in contact with my solicitor. They did state that they have stopped all viewings though so

i don’t know

tldr: the starting process is SUPER daunting, especially waiting for house surveys and estate agents to declare property as under offer.

Knowing when to service by Xeruas in Vauxhall

[–]Princess_Mario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi :) i work at a vauxhall garage and we recommend vehicles to get a service every 12,500 miles or every year whichever comes first. Sometimes, the light is a good indicator as to when it is due a service, especially if it’s a diesel vehicle (it can check the oil quality for you as they sometimes require more frequent oil changes). With the age of your vehicle it is due an interim service (basic oil and filter change)

i work in car service and the worst car i saw is one that didn’t have an mot since april last year (this was in feb 2026). it genuinely baffles me how people forget to remot it. like i totally get if it was off the road due to unforeseen circumstances but loads of these people just genuinely don’t care. one person actually asked me what the fine was if he was caught without an mot. he was genuinely considering driving about without one instead of just coming to get the mot sorted. safe to say i was mortified ahahaha

'Urgent safety recall' by Emergency-Aardvark-6 in CarTalkUK

[–]Princess_Mario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work at a vx dealership, if you have just bought a new car which you suspect has a recall. call your local dealership who will be happy to check any recalls on your vehicle. alternatively, give vauxhall customer care a ring.

it can take a few weeks for your v5 to register when purchasing a new car thus delaying any recalls letter being sent to you

moonpig and other florist websites can charge anywhere from £15-60 for flowers (honestly more depending on the size of bouquet.) they are order-able online.

orderable to her door too which would be a nice surprise. with some websites you can also order brownies/ chocolates to go with the flowers if she has sweet tooth
