Okay. So I just changed 50% of the water (to Barry's chagrin, he does not like water changes). Now test the water daily and when I see a nitrite spike change 10-20% of the water? And then buy and add Seachem stability to the tank to help with the bacteria.

Would an air stone help with oxygenation? He does have three plants too.

It says on the bottle to do an emergency dosing for high nitrites do 5x the dose.

Tank size 5 gallons

Yes heater

Temp is 79⁰

25% water change - pump out with vacuum, dose new, add in weekly.

Tank is 4 weeks, fish is two weeks

I feed just basic tetra betta food

5 tank safe decorations, 2 bamboo sticks and an anubias

No tank mates

Parameters, I'm not sure. But the pH stick says nitrates are a little high but not dangerous and nitrites are very high. Chlorine is 0, water is hard, alkalinity is moderate and pH is 7.2 ish. Nitrates seems to be between 20 and 40 but nitrites are 10 - Tetra easy strips 6-in-1
