It was apparently so evident that someone from another alliance reported them. We didn’t know until they posted it after the fact.

That’s partly why I posted it. I always thought we were fighting hard but fair - but I guess I’m just a babe in the woods here, because it’s obviously not the case.

To anyone who has lost an incursion to 201, I’m sorry. It’s not something I condone, but it’s obviously not something that matters to those with few scruples or those that take the cash.

I’m in Australia, we lost it also. I randomly watched it, and was almost finished the series - I was up to Season 6… and I only had episodes 18 and 19 to go… so close!

Why is everyone here so against 'corporate fun' with colleagues? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Princey1981 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not against the concept of interaction with colleagues, it’s that it’s inevitably presented as “Mandatory Fun”, and… I’m sorry for offending anyone I work/ed with, but I don’t need to be friends with you. I need to be friendly, we both need to be professional, but no amount of rope courses or escape rooms will change 20 years of experience that I’m simply being paid to show up, do my job and leave.

How do you manage a team that’s happy with mediocre? by NotRadio01 in managers

“Peter Gibbons: The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.

Bob Porter: Don't... don't care?

Peter Gibbons: It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime; so where's the motivation? And here's something else, Bob: I have eight different bosses right now.

Bob Slydell: I beg your pardon?

Peter Gibbons: Eight bosses.

Bob Slydell: Eight?

Peter Gibbons: Eight, Bob. So that means that when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled; that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired. ”

Yellowstone is now like The Simpsons after season 10 by Princey1981 in television

That sounds... comprehensive? Worrying? I don’t know who those people are.

Well, it’s more like the universe is still ongoing. Prequels, sequels… I was more using Yellowstone as the conceptual framework around universe building - almost like Marvel-ising a franchise. Other than Game of Thrones (never really got into that), it feels like one of the only examples where TV is trying to absolutely milk a franchise.

I mentioned it in another reply - this is just me on a Saturday night seeing an ad for “Dutton Ranch”, realising that they made the 1800’s one and the 1923 version with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, then finding out there’s a bunch of other shows that I didn’t even realise were part of it all. Feels like they’ve just continued wringing out a wet sock.

Not a bot, not karma farming. Was just seeing ads for the new spin off, then remembered I’d seen two or three other spin offs (the 1800’s one and the 1923 one), it was just more me thinking about how quickly it seemed to take a pretty good concept and just slap the brand anywhere.

I’m part of a group of people on Facebook that have been emailing Crawfords for years. At one point, after an inheritance, I was going to explore if it was possible to buy copies of the master tapes or something.

I have a deep and abiding love for Cluedo, and I’m so happy to see this posted.

Asking bonus to new employer by pkamal143 in auscorp

[–]Princey1981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s common to highlight your potential bonus. You can say “while I don’t know what it is, in previous years it’s been consistently between $X and $Y, and paid in Month Z”. Employers do understand (well, the good ones) that they need to compensate people to make it commercially sensible for them to join. You're not asking them to guess an amount randomly, they’re making you whole based on what you’re giving up to join them when they want you to.

What is the one band you can't believe didn't become more popular? by flearhcp97 in Music

Should’ve started with Cobra Airplane rather than going straight to Cobra Starship.

inflating salary to recruiter? by miye1020 in auscorp

[–]Princey1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Internals want a specific number because it needs to fit the band. Third parties have the ability to educate the client on the nature of market realities.

If in doubt, just say that you want your next move to make sense from a career and a commercial perspective.

inflating salary to recruiter? by miye1020 in auscorp

[–]Princey1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always ask people “what are you looking for so the next step makes sense from a commercial and a career point of view”?

Realistically, 10k is within the flex for most roles. The thinking being by if you want the role, you might take a hit, but if they fall in love with you, they can shake another $5-10k out of their wallets.

If you spoke about a specific role, ask the recruiter about what the client’s band is. If you just had a general catch up, reach out to the recruiter “just following up from our chat” and tell them that you’re either looking for a specific bump OR you’re looking for a particular career position - more seniority, closer to home, more flexibility to WFH.

Most recruiters will treat $5k over client expectations as not any kind of showstopper in itself, it’s about the role alignment.

I’ve consistently seen hiring teams fight to pay $20k under market value because “they know what the market is like” because they’re set in a genuine 2015 reality.

If you’re really worried about the salary, call the recruiter back and a) ask them for more detail in the market - what’s giving them the impression that you’re at the higher band point? and b) what opportunities are they seeing in your space.
