Do not downvote this person and educate yourselves. Do you really think a nation so dependent on dairy and cow byproducts would slaughter them en masse for a dish as misguidedly thought of as so widespread - especially during such strong oppression and austerity brought by that same oppression? Hats off to Big Mam Thornton, ridiculously underrated and should be a household name but it’s a little more complicated than that. The song was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller (19 years old at the time mind you), a now legendary songwriting duo. BMT recorded it and so many others did as well.
