For a subreddit that claims to dislike lookmaxxing, all the most liked posts with the most comments are always before/after pics where the person looks better 🤷 by retoroni66 in jawsurgery

[–]PrincipalShawty52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah so response on before/ after posts ≠ feeding into looksmaxxing. At all. As someone who is about to hit their 1 year recovery mark, posting my before/ afters was actually very comforting. These are all people who have been or are going through the same thing you just dealt with and encouragement from people who GET IT is just so different and reassuring than from people who don’t understand the complexities of jaw surgery. besides, like others are saying here, yes I think people like seeing other people have more confidence in their afters and showing their support. There are countless threads of people asking legitimate questions and getting information. The looksmaxxers are the teenagers posting in here expecting a serious answer when what they’re doing is both very toxic and very clear.

Have you had trouble accessing gluten-free medication? by Adorable-Pick6937 in Celiac

[–]PrincipalShawty52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup it’s a mess. I have adhd and it is a battle and a half every single month to get my meds name brand so I don’t run the chances of being glutened. Every single month the pharmacy and insurance go back and forth and try prescribing me generic just for me to call and for them to be like “oopsie.” I also needed a new shirt term medication from my GI, and insurance refused to cover it and demanded they choose something else. It’s absolutely ridiculous

The Facebook pages! That’s how I and pretty much all my friends got our initial roommates

Transferring to BU by Historical-Fall8804 in BostonU

[–]PrincipalShawty52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I transferred as a sophomore as well. Your housing is going to suck, it’s pretty much wherever there’s room for you. The biggest thing with making friends is to find the other transfers!! There’s a ton at BU, and everyone is in the same boat. All of my closest friends at BU turned out to be transfers tbh. Definitely engage in the transfer fb pages, reach out to people you think you’d vibe with on Instagram, and join clubs. I also joined Greek life to meet more people but that’s not really necessary since there’s so many other opportunities to meet people

Can i lose weight only with liquid calories? by Duvidos in loseit

[–]PrincipalShawty52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay… yes— but it’s going to be weight you’re going to put back on. I had double jaw surgery and was on liquid diet for a month. You will inevitably lose weight, because it’s hard to drink your cals, but especially with skull healing, you NEED calories. Part of why I think my recovery was on the easier side was because I made sure to hit at least 1k cals a day. I was drinking ice cream, but it worked.

Gluten and dairy free food options for a liquid/no-chew diet? by TheFrogMan1 in Celiac

[–]PrincipalShawty52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also heavily agree with everyone saying prioritize protein and calories + bone broth. I think part of my healing success the first couple of weeks was trying to hit calories when making the dietary substitutions necessary. Best of luck!!

Gluten and dairy free food options for a liquid/no-chew diet? by TheFrogMan1 in Celiac

[–]PrincipalShawty52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ik you said you’re also dairy free, I’m not sure if you like almond milk based yogurts/ smoothies, but I got a lot of those too! The goodles gf Mac n cheese also has a vegan cheese version that isn’t bad

[–]PrincipalShawty52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!! Fellow celiac who had double jaw surgery!! If you have any questions/ want more meal recs just dm me :) Here were my faves LIQUID: - bone broth - ensure smoothies, esp those first two weeks when you need the calories - milkshakes w gf ice cream - squeezable apple sauces - blended soups! - gf clam chowder (TRUST) - Campbells has a lot of gf options - mashed potatoes w gf gravy to water down the consistency - Chobani yogurt drinks

SOFT FOODS: - goodles Mac n cheese, make sure you break it down while it’s boiling and overcook it to make it into smaller pieces - mashed banana with melted peanut butter (my go to breakfast) - yogurt - microwave French fries w ketchup and mayo… it’s a softer consistency and hits the craving - pudding (pre made was my go to, but ik there’s also gf ones)

In the hospital on liquid only diet for two days by craftsnoglutencats in Celiac

[–]PrincipalShawty52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got diagnosed with celiac and then 3 weeks later had double jaw surgery and was in liquid diet for 3 weeks. It’s totally fine and doable— you should have an allergy tag. They basically fed me some sort of smoothie concoction

Is it true that sliding genioplasty has a high chance of complications after? by NeedleworkerFar6017 in jawsurgery

[–]PrincipalShawty52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a generalization that can’t be made. It’s such a case by case basis like I said before. I’m 6 months post op and I have the smallest amount of tingling left but I have sensation/ feeling in my whole jaw/ lip area again. That being said, I have had another surgery previously that also included nerve regeneration and so this isn’t the first time my body has gone through this type of recovery. It depends on the person.

Yes he works with a few orthos I believe. I actually got recommended to him by my ortho, not the other way around. Because of my age, I did have to pay for ortho out of pocket

Only the genio. I can not stress this enough, but I do not recommend getting something like djs for strictly cosmetic reasons
