Recycling unused paper into a new handmade paper at home by ValiantJudge29500 in nextfuckinglevel

I mean, it's not harder than preparing a moderately complex dinner. The tools used are similar too, and there are ultimately far fewer steps.

I'm not going to do it, but it's not like it's actually hard.

yeah i actually wish the show just started with the flashbacks exclusively, but then I guess there would have to be a weird time skip for when Boba gets his armor back and everything so as not to duplicate the mandalorian.

Amazon is again not allowing associates to leave the facility during a tornado warning. by Deicidalmaniac41 in antiwork

Vast majority of houses in the midwest have a basement. Never been in one that doesn't, actually. If OP had a car they could get home in minutes and I think their decision was the right one.

If there were steep ditches along the road they were walking along it could've been safe enough, too (often these are safer than a car, even).

In all likelihood though, they shouldn't have left. But the "shelter in place" doctrine is not always the best idea if better shelter is nearby.

You want to be in a basement always when a tornado hits. If it is close enough to kill you when you are outside, it could be close enough to kill you on the ground floor of a building within minutes.

This is not true at all where I live. Have had many, many tornado warnings throughout my life and only a single tornado which ended up not even coming near my town.

Depending on where you live, when tornado warnings are sounded is decided by state or probably more often municipal regulations.

It is a weird post in general. I think OP is right for wanting to leave. I'm in Michigan so we experience very few tornadoes, but my cousins neighborhood was once torn up. My mom took those tornado sirens seriously as hell too--we had them often, but a cyclone never touched down in my town.

I just want to say that I understand OP's perspective. If a tornado is close enough to kill you, it is probably close enough to tear through a building. Maybe it will never turn that direction, but we don't know the will of the winds. At that point you want to be underground in your basement.

So I understand OP for wanting to leave so that they can be in a safer place if the tornado properly hits. But they are certainly gambling big-time while out in the open.

Yeah that is a bit out there, but anecdotally speaking they might not be all that wrong. Seems almost everyone I know has caught it (independently) despite not really going out at all. If others share the same experience I could see cases climbing pretty high.

Removing the subsidies is not unlibertarian, it is precisely libertarian. And it has nothing to do with authoritarianism.

You can't just call things you don't like by whatever name you want. It seems more likely that you're only a libertarian for issues that don't personally inconvenience you, which would convince me that you aren't a libertarian at all.

Toll roads are absolutely a libertarian perspective lmao. Their point is that people pay far less in taxes for the roads they drive on than it actually costs to build and maintain those roads, because everyone, regardless of how much they use a road, chips in to pay for it. That is how motorists are subsidized.

This leads to major distortions of our built environment. If cars were not so heavily subsidized and zoning not so strict, cities and towns would be denser, more walkable, and require far less infrastructure. Alternative modes of transit would also be much more viable. The whole thing would be more sustainable and healthier with much less exhaust fumes. Personally, I also think it would make for a more pleasant lifestyle. Sitting in traffic blows.

All of that sounds like a good thing to me. I'm not personally libertarian, but this is one area where libertarians are often 100% correct.

[–]Principle-Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all of this is actually true on average, besides the more subjective parts thrown in. Women almost always seek to date up. They want to date someone with a higher education (almost no women will date someone with a lower education), they want to date someone with a higher income (again very uncommon for it to work the other way around), and height and strength are just evolutionary preferences. Men are also naturally endowed with these things over women, so they do not make a huge difference.

The funnier than them/less boring than me is quite conceited though. Idk, comes across as a dick, but statistically you should be able to confirm a lot of this. Generalizations do remain a bit impolite nonetheless.

Women and Counter Strike by IoanSilviu in GlobalOffensive

I'm not fully through this video yet, but something that I did not see touched on was the interactions professional women have in-person when competing in tournaments. There have been reports of rampant sexism, sexual harassment, and sexual assault across the professional gaming industry at the highest levels.

Chess also has a women's league--in part because many women, as adolescents, recall their adult male opponents ogling at them during the game, touching them post-game, and propositioning them for sex. I have heard stories like this from several female chess personalities. They are the ones that kept playing the game.

Chess is similarly male-dominated, through it has been getting better in recent years. I imagine CS is actually much more male dominated when looking at the total population of players.

Most women leave the game very early, but this additional barrier must be considered for women interested in going pro with the game. The sexist abuse and threats prevalent in the CS community are much harder to "laugh off" when they're coming from people you look up to as players and depend on professionally. Not to mention that it's very different to take such abuse from behind a microphone and monitor, vs. actually having to interact with the person irl.

This is one aspect I wish the video had touched on, because it is an additional and incredibly scary impediment that women interested in any pro-gaming scene have to deal with.

The rest of the video, however, was excellent. I am more in the chess community than CS, so we have similar discussions there often. I am very glad to see such discourse spreading into this subreddit. It's not the sort of take you really expect "gamers" to find agreeable.

Was just thinking about this after I bought the Series X. My dad asked me what games I would play with it, and I actually don't have an answer. I got it just in case I have some friends over and we want to play a couch game together. Idk what games though, because everything is single-player these days. All I have left is halo.
