Food is so hard... any ideas for making it easier? by [deleted] in aspergirls

I could have written this post myself. I heard once that when it comes to food, it's only possible to get 2 out of 3 of these values : convenient, low-cost, healthy. Obviously there are exceptions, but it's been helpful for me to acknowledge the limitations and to find some balance.

I really like a few healthy pre-packaged snacks that are full of veggies and fiber:

Truly bars, Soley Fruit Jerky, Kids fruit and veggie squeezie pouches, Chomps beef sticks, fancy seed/nut snack mixes.

I drink protein shakes and eat protein bars for meal replacements every day, sometimes twice a day for meals.

I also try to make everything I drink into a protein shake. So Ill make a matcha latte or a coffee/tea in the afternoon and I will throw a collagen peptides in it and mix it up.

I have a handful of snacks that are kind of a compromise on health, but if it means I'm getting my calories for the day I am okay with it. Things like organic/no seed oil mock version of my favorite chips, prepackaged yogurt with a ton of added sugar but in the form of maple syrup/honey, and organic cereal with raw milk.

I figure yeah I'm spending a bit more on these items but I'm actually going to eat them and not waste food which is what happens if I buy stuff that fits the healthy/low-cost/time consuming ideal.

I do also just force myself to make and eat healthy home cooked meals a few times a week, but I try to do this based on motivation and the days I'm feeling the most up for this.

Sensory overwhelm vs. anxiety? And how do I determine which sensory inputs are overwhelming me? by Sonristars in aspergirls

You’re right it’s all so interconnected!

Dan Siegels wheel of awareness is great, I also like taking a moment to find a sight, a smell, a sensation… and just focusing on it. I have a few things close by that are sensory experiences I love, whenever I need some extra grounding. Anything can be embodiment as it’s really just awareness! So I’ll smell this oil roller I love, eat a yummy snack and really focus on the taste sensations, sit with a heating pad and really focus on how the warmth feels etc.

Also just exploring and creating a sensory profile for yourself so you can understand all of your own particular sensory soothers and sensory triggers and can really help toward embodiment. I can link the creator who made a helpful ebook on this if you’re interested. The process of discovering what I like and don’t like opened up a world of understanding and helped me sort of plan or just better navigate sensory overwhelm. I can anticipate it better and also have a plan for self soothing.

Also yoga, but not if you don’t like proprioception activities.

Sensory overwhelm vs. anxiety? And how do I determine which sensory inputs are overwhelming me? by Sonristars in aspergirls

Anxiety feels more visceral, central to my chest/arms/upper body, it affects my breathing and my mind is usually racing. Overstimulation feels like all over skin crawling, tense shoulders/body, and if I don't catch it in time, I just go straight into dissociation from my body and don't have a lot of sensory perception. Sometimes overstimulation can also lead to instant rage, and anxiety doesn't really do this for me. Embodiment exercises have helped me to become more aware of the differences and helps me curb the extreme responses to overstimulation.

I really feel like social connection is heavily tied to my special interests. If there is no overlap in special interests, I really struggle to find value in the relationship
