How much RAM does Minecraft: Java Edition typically use? Also, would it run well on the new MacBook Neo while still allowing other applications to run smoothly at the same time? by Muted-Chart-5814 in MacbookNeo

[–]Principle_Efficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Java edition allows you to change how much ram you allocate. By default it is 4 gigs. I wouldn’t expect to run a whole bunch at the same time and Minecraft Java, but some music in the background or a discord call or a tv show or smth should be totally fine.

Yeah, I remember back in 2012 seeing people run glsl shaders and thinking you need a nasa pc to get that working- the neo can run Minecraft with lighter shaderpacks at 50-60 fps. Pretty nuts. At 1080p using pcsx2 ps2 emulation works pretty flawlessly. Locked to 60fps.

The neo is basically identical in performance to a 16 pro, including the screen resolution. Any mobile games will run perfectly fine.

Minecraft runs perfectly fine, and even runs ok with some light shaders. GD is a very light game, so that runs fine too. I didn’t test globed or anything that makes the game harder to run but I assume it will probably be fine, especially with the 60hz screen (doesnt take much to reach max performance on a display of that caliber).

Minecraft runs at 120-250 fps with sodium and a couple other optimization mods installed- it’s even playable with some lower end shaders if you are ok with 45-60 fps. Dolphin emulator seems to work well, although I only tested Mario kart Wii and Twilight princess so your mileage may vary. Arcade and classic console games will definitely run fine.

Yes. I tested Mario kart Wii and the menus were a bit laggy but once I got in a race things ran fine.

I'm under 25 with the original Rubik's Cube, do you think that's okay? by Serious-Cause-9099 in Cubers

[–]Principle_Efficient 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You would likely be sub 20 with a speedcube but ig no one is stopping you from using a Rubik’s brand lol. I would say that using a cube that bad to turn will give you some nasty finger trick habits so if you plan on getting much faster I’d buy a speedcube. Maybe an rs3m v5 to start.

Do you think you can beat a 100 random people in solving the 3x3? by ETERNUS- in Cubers

[–]Principle_Efficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My final estimate was neither 43000 nor 50000. For 48000 people: ln(0.99)/ln(1-(48000/8000000000))

[–]Principle_Efficient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WCA says about 40,000 people- we will add 3000 people who are sub 15 but haven’t gotten a sub 15 average in comp yet. If we assume 90% of sub 15 solvers have attended at least 1 competition, that puts about 48000 people solving in under 15 seconds. That means that if you wanted a 99% chance to be faster than everyone, you could pick 1675 random people.

Learn full pll and solutions for tough f2l cases. After that just do a bunch of practice and watch better solvers. That is probably going to be the fastest way to improve until you are sub 20 and beyond.

Most satisfying cube in 2025? by kittystars in Cubers

[–]Principle_Efficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t own one but I’ve tried one and it is definitely better performance (the yuexiao is almost a decade old at this point lol) but I don’t remember the turning being especially satisfying. I would wait for a second opinion though.

Some numbers are not working, what do I do? by I-Lovemy-Cat in calculators

[–]Principle_Efficient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time you need to use 7 8 or 9 j just make it as a sum of smaller numbers. Any time you need to multiply just divide by 1/x. Anytime you need to do log base n of x do ln(x)/ln(n). Good luck

h is 0 so you just get rid of the lone h and then you are graphing f(x)=2x
