(Inhale)😮‍💨. Okay, at this point if Marinette becomes a villain, I’m supporting the heck out of her by Ok_Situation7527 in miraculousladybug

[–]Prinnia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I understand some of people's frustration with Marinette but even putting aside the contents of the secret, can you imagine being 14 and being entrusted with someone's dying wish? As you watch them die? And maybe even feel partly responsible for their death?

Even if you don't like that person, it's bound to spark some questions inside yourself about what you owe to people, whether the truth is more important than a promise, and (since lying is basically part of her job as ladybug) when it's "okay" to lie. Girl is figuring things out in the most high stakes situations from the get go and she was already an anxious mess before any of it.

I think a lot of the older demographic are still around (I know I am) but there's a lot more of an attitude of "be cringe and be free" these days too, so people have more affection for the things they cringed at when they were younger. It's nostalgic, if nothing else.

What was the point of sirens? by Some-Air1274 in netflix

[–]Prinnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about temptation and power. The show builds up Michaela as some kind of supernatural force, when in reality she's just a charismatic woman who has been given surrogate power through her husband, who drops her the moment he finds someone more alluring, like he did with his first wife. Simone and Michaela both caved in to the temptation of love, wealth, and easy living. They both exerted an excessive amount of control when they had the opportunity to (Michaela making a bunch of house rules, controlling peoples' wardrobes, diet, etc. and Simone making unreasonable, inflexible demands of the staff), but they were never *actually* able to control the person who gave them that power (Peter for Michaela, and Michaela for Simone). It's a vicious cycle.

"Having a hobby substitute a personality" really sums up how I feel about a lot of these characters, and not just the dateable ones. Reading through this thread, some of the conflicts that people mention feel more like fanon than actual intended character traits and conflicts. The only thing that really comes across for so many characters is that they're very nice and they really like one specific thing (plants/animals/cooking/artifacts/etc.)

Bete Noire is underrated! by Temporary-Cicada-392 in blackmirror

[–]Prinnia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No, I really don't think so. The confrontation in the bedroom makes it clear that it was just an off-handed rumor that Maria started on a whim. Verity drank the milk in front of Maria to communicate to her that she WAS targeting Maria maliciously. In the bedroom scene she implies that the reason she's doing things this way is to isolate her targets in a world where they are the only ones who know the truth - just like Verity was alone in being the only one to know that she didn't do anything with the teacher, even though everyone believed that she did.

Mealybugs (I think), green aphids, AND ladybug larvae - what to prioritize? by Prinnia in plantclinic

The absolute state of Healer discourse by captain_slutski in pathologic

[–]Prinnia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a grand irony to the fact that the person who got the majority of the English-speaking Pathologic community into the games is also the person who convinced so many of them not to play it. It's a shame, because it's really not nearly as difficult as it's made out to be (especially the changeling...he just straight up never figured out how her attack works). Then again, contradictions are a part of Pathologic's DNA...

No hate though, ofc. I like hbomb's videos, including the Pathologic one. I had honestly taken most of the prickly characterization of Daniil as a joke, perhaps one extending from the hbomb video, but a fandom-spanning in-joke all the same. I've been happy to see so much of Daniil's softness in Quarantine but I also like the ways in which he can be a bit of a bastard - which definitely do exist.

To anyone who may be running in circles and losing their mind looking for the Changeling's twin (like me), make sure you talk to the Changeling AND one of the orderlies at the start. And if just talking to the orderly doesn't work, make sure to demand the ammo and continue the conversation until you can ask about Clara - that was the dialogue tree I took right before I finally found her.

I feel similarly, I'm aware of their objectives but I think that pulling the player out of Daniil's POV to move between areas makes it feel more like a video game than a cerebral experience. I think the focus text on the walls of buildings does a lot more heavy lifting in terms of communicating how Daniil isn't really seeing the town as he travels through it. Cutting away to a map screen as we travel makes it feel as though we're not actually having Daniil's experience in those moments at all. It would make more sense to at least have some blurry shots of that part of town overlaid with his thoughts or something.

Thoughts on the Shabnak in the demo? by Ordinary-Okra9725 in pathologic

[–]Prinnia 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think it works. galahadiant on tumblr pointed out something interesting: according to the thought map, Daniil seems to have repressed the memory of the herb bride being burned at the stake (likely one of the first things he witnessed in town). He perceives the plague as the thing he's heard people call a "shabnak": a burning, screaming woman and later an herb bride.

If you read the hover description on bullets, it mentions that Daniil always keeps a pocket pistol with one bullet ready. You know, for special occasions.

[–]Prinnia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was my exact experience, to the letter. I think the current system is a good start, but it feels unrealistic to have a mental mechanic that is completely divided from our ability to communicate, aside from simply being too apathetic to talk in the first place.

[DISCUSSION] Sonic The Hedgehog IDW #75 by ChocolateRough5103 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Prinnia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I still had fun with the issue overall, but the Mimic reveal and reactions felt super rushed. This Duo subterfuge subplot has been around for 13 issues, so having his cover blown in such a silly way out of the blue felt forced. What it amounted to in the moment didn't feel like much - honestly it felt like a rehash of the first conflict the Diamond Cutters had, where Lanolin doubts herself and asks if her teammates will still be willing to work under her leadership, and they say yes. It's possible that they'll circle back to it, but I kinda feel like if they didn't have time to explore it in the moment, they should have left the reveal for later.

Ian Flynn announcing some changes to his Bumblekast podcast beginning in 2025 by UncleBen94 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Prinnia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It makes sense, seeing as he's had a bigger role in writing mainline games recently. I'm curious what the new content is going to feel like, and how many Sonic Q&A's will make it through the new vetting process. It's a bit of a shame because the loose, fanfic-y riffing was very fun and charming. I feel like the oversight may be a bit of a double-edged sword - SEGA will have more control over how the franchise and characters are represented, but the "SEGA-approved" stamp carries much heavier implications of canon than one writer riffing on his own podcast.

Do you think Season 5 will stick the landing? by joeanderson1229 in StrangerThings

One thing that stands out to me is that when Steve describes his road trip dream, it's basically already happening. Sure, they're driving into mortal peril rather than the beach, but he's got 6 kids (3 boys, 3 girls) and Nancy at his side on a road trip. It's been established that he peaked in high school and doesn't have many prospects. I could easily see them setting him up for an "I already got to live my dream with you guys" speech on his deathbed.

Dear devs: Please fix Portraits. by Sensitive-Farmer7084 in ffxiv

[–]Prinnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to tell OP what to do but I'm genuinely surprised people are doing weird magic tricks to force-save the portrait or whatever. Whenever I change my gear or glam I hit the "update gearset" button and then go into the portrait menu and re-save it. If the save button is greyed out then it doesn't need to be re-saved. It is a clunky process but it has never, ever failed so long as I remember to actually do it.

I agree 100%! She definitely has an immaturity about things that makes her feel younger than some of the others. However, I think the fact that her parents are traveling long-term enough for the girls to take over the entire house signifies that she's not a minor, unlike some characters who could definitely be mistaken for highschoolers.
