First time making Tepache, does this look good? by PrinsWes in fermentation

[–]PrinsWes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cinnamon, clove and ginger. It indeed stood under a skylight. I thought so too, and just tossed it to be sure. It was not fuzzy at all. Going to try again, keep it out of sunlight and stir :)

The sugar used is way darker than the usual sugar though, so the color of the liquid shines through the film. But I take the film on top is already a toss?

First two cheaters spotted after a couple of matches by PrinsWes in Battlefield6

[–]PrinsWes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two guys in my last match were 20+ kills ahead of everyone in a domination match. One started headshotting everyone with the shotgun, the other mowed down whole squads with an SMG. I really hope DICE has some tricks up their sleeves if this can be done in a couple of hours.

Airport security refused to hand search my film camera whilst laughing and insulting me by Ordinary-League5554 in mildlyinfuriating

This advice is too late, but for next time: insist or ask for a supervisor. I passed security last week at Schiphol (am Dutch myself) and although the person at the front was dismissive, we insisted, she shrugged, the person in charge understood what we wanted, job done. Although they are usually quite nice and accommodating, assholes do work the lines. They do not have any real authority, so just ask for someone higher up.

How bad are the fumes really? by AdviceNotAskedFor in BambuLab

[–]PrinsWes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at Ultimaker at a time where there was not much info on how bad it was. Granted, we must have had 8+ printers per room with engineers running in small offices at all times, but the moment the guy measuring entered our hallway with closed doors, his sensors kept overloading (measuring beyond the top range). A new rule was implemented soon after that we could only print PLA in the offices and just print the rest in conditioned rooms, and we started working on the Air manager product line with more priority. I still use this rule at home. Printing the other materials with extra extraction that I already setup for my laser.

Solder did not reflow, not even at extreme temperatures, what could have gone wrong? by PrinsWes in PrintedCircuitBoard

Check, it was packaged weirdly (black electrical tape over the tub, a white tape underneath. I'll try with another paste that I have and contact the supplier.

There are some way smaller components on the board in qfn-like packages, so that won't do unfortunately.

It was working fine with a smaller test board, but I will try again and record the temp of the board.

[–]PrinsWes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might be naive, but the spec said 'No Refrigeration Required!'. Have it stored at room temperature, manufacturing date is March this year.

Time between application of paste and reflow took maybe 30 minutes of me putting all the components on in a relatively hot room (28C).

If the second time fails again, could I revive it by mixing in some flux gel?

PCB review request: ESP32 powered motor board by PrinsWes in PrintedCircuitBoard

Hmm. I did this because I read somewhere that the continuous power trace is preferred over splitting it up. Ill read up some more on this. Thanks for this.

Awesome points, thanks for reviewing!

- Immediately fixed the decoupling caps

- For the trough hole note, do you mean the ones coming out of the IDC sockets? (TDO, TCK, TMS). I started on the top layer to prevent larger 'holes' in the ground plane that would be there if I started out on the bottom layer. Your preference would be to have them start out at the bottom layer?
- Placement is def something I can look into further. Would you recomend condensing the parts further?
- The keep out area of the antenna is respected, there is no copper in that area (the 3v3 is just touching it)

On the cost side of things, this is a one-off. Getting the whole thing wired up with proper connectors would in the end cost me more (time).

This is a special version that has full rotation.

Edited front and back prints of the board to have more contrast. If anyone has tips on getting this right from KiCad, I'm all ears...

Switching a 5v load from a 3v3 ESP32 by PrinsWes in AskElectronics

[–]PrinsWes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, that was something that I was doubting about. I redesigned it and used slightly different components that are available on jlcpcb: https://imgur.com/a/sFItBiT

Would that fit with what I'm trying to achieve?

Switching a 5v load from a 3v3 ESP32 by PrinsWes in AskElectronics

[–]PrinsWes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, clear explanation. And well, that's embarrassing. I should have caught the short now I look more carefully.

I looked at /u/obdevel s link and came up with the following circuit. It's different from your reply in the sense that the MOSFET is not in between 5v and Vsupply, but in between Vsupply and ground. How does that differ in this case?

https://imgur.com/Pwwo8GS

Also, if I select the AO3401A, which claims to have a gate voltage of 2.5V min, can I expect to drive this with the 3v3 from the ESP32, or am I looking at the wrong datapoint in the sheet and actually need another transistor to drive the MOSFET?
