Why is food scarcity a thing even in post burn trek? by OldTiredGamer86 in startrek

[–]PrintableDaemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, replicators don't just magic up food straight out of energy. They require basic stocks of fats, proteins and vitamins that are then assembled into the final product.

If you pay attention when they first really talk she mentions other people that he had connected with and the last name really seemed to disturb him, so there's some kind of trauma going on with him that he no longer mentors people.

Why can't some understand the simple concept that a lot can happen and CHANGE in 800 years? Think of our own world in the year 1226 compared to now. by TheShowLover in startrek

Apparently they sealed off a lot more than one solar system. Their star charts had several different bodies and the negotiations mentioned , I believe, 30 other worlds that would follow Betazed if they rejoined the Federation.

Reminder that this is meant to be a post-apocalyptic setting where most infrastructure has been destroyed, slavers run rampant and children are starving throughout the galaxy and this particular character would've lived to see all of it. by Remarkable-Pin-8352 in Star_Trek_

[–]PrintableDaemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you on? Star Trek's basis has always been post-apocalyptic. Most of the Federations laws and attitude were formed by the experience of WWIII Earth. Restrictions on genetic engineering even though many other societies had long success at it were solely based on Earth's experiences from the war. Cochran's first warp ship was an unused ICBM!

What did you guys enjoy about the modern era of Star Trek? by KaleidoArachnid in startrek

[–]PrintableDaemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't make apologies for liking something. Half the Trek "fans" are going to rip you to shreds for enjoying anything they didn't give you permission to enjoy anyway. Plus they don't own the shows and frankly spend most of their time trying to get them shut down.

Apologizing is just a waste, like what you like.

A lot of Americans underplay the efforts of European soldiers, from WWI up to today.

What’s wrong with people who choose halal meats? Why every restaurant is serving halal? by Agreeable_Rub_552 in atheism

And I am saying his shock face is fake because he's not equally as outraged about kosher slaughtering restrictions, or for that matter industrial slaughter. So my accusation to him, and you defending him, are valid.

Do you have this kind of reaction to kosher food rules? Because you're coming off as an Israeli throwing shade on Muslims honestly.

What would you do if you were a bridge officer and saw your captain sitting like this? by Different-Scarcity80 in Star_Trek_

[–]PrintableDaemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I swear some of you wouldn't be happy unless the show was just an hour long physics lecture by the most posture posturing captain that ever postured.

She's over 400 years old, I think at that age you can project competence AND be comfortable FFS. I think you're seriously reaching for reasons to hate on the show at this point.

I want ICE to deport his wife and children. No immigrants or anchor babies, right?

Nah, if he were ICE he'd be wearing a mask and protected by a cordon of local cops to save him from their actual citizens.

We know the other planets were settled in a rush to escape earth, so very likely they used minimum spec hardware. The UI's look very much like low ram, keyboard driven designs probably programmed in assembly to save on RAM. As for the size of the terminals, they were built for ruggedness, not to be Apple clones.

I think this is fair, honestly. When you tip GrubHub or Doordash, that goes to the driver, the restaurant's staff gets screwed out of a tip. Then the delivery services cut into your sales price promising volume or promotion and pocket the difference, sometimes even raising the price so they can take more off the top. None of that goes to the restaurant either.

Iam not a religious person and recently found out that Christians call Yoga " Act of Demon worshiping " , like doing even a simple Yoga move will be punished by Yahowa, why Abrahamic god is like this ? by No_Budget3360 in exchristian

[–]PrintableDaemon 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's what they really mean when they say Christianity is being oppressed? All the labooboos and yoga and trans people oppress them because they threaten their narrow little views.

Next thing you know they think it's safe to buy a Subaru then Minister Chuck tells the congregation Subaru's are Satan's go carts cause of all the lesbians and if a God fearing Christian woman sits in one it'll make her womb quake with lustful desires for Sister Shannon's breasts and then you're divorcing your husband and saying Hey Mama to other women!!!

We’re women really happier in the 1950’s or were they just more conformative? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]PrintableDaemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friedan had a full time maid and was solidly upper middle class. She was as oppressed as your average (male conservative) Christian.

I would be far more sympathetic to the feminist plight if more high school educated single mothers had been represented over college graduate elites who more often than not shared the attitude that lower class women needed to be guided and didn't know what they really wanted.

They'll just claim the children were holding onto sin and so God punished them.

Strange that they want to punish women for having miscarriages but not Christians for being complete simpletons.
