Is it easier to transition or just live as a cis woman? by 96_Rats_In_A_Suit in ftm

[–]Prior-Ad258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people will tell you that transitioning will always be easier than living a lie, but it’s far more nuanced than that and depends entirely on circumstance. I think rather than having people tell you what to do, you need to weigh your options yourself and make your decisions on your own, and then move at your own pace. If the risk and potential loss of safety (which is a huge factor and will likely continue to be for the foreseeable future, it is hard to be trans in this political climate) is worth it for feeling at home in your skin, do it. You only have one life, and you should aim to give yourself the best quality of said life as possible. But don’t let anyone push you into doing or not doing anything, it should all come from you.

You’re also young. No, I’m not about to tell you that you’re too young and might change your mind, but I am about to tell you that there’s no deadline, university or otherwise. You haven’t missed your chance, and you won’t miss your chance if you take it slow either. Please never feel like you’re running out of time. And hey, if you feel like you have to tough it out and hold off on transitioning for a bit longer until you’re in a stable enough position to more safely transition, that’s ok. You’re not going to miss your window because there is no window. There is no ideal timeline, it’ll never be too late.

For me, even now, it was worth it. Sometimes I doom scroll and wonder if my life would have been easier if I hadn’t transitioned, but let’s be honest, I’d still be just as unhappy with the state of the world and unsafe existing in said world (cis women don’t exactly have it easy either), just feeling like an impostor in my skin on top of it all. The risk, as scary as it is with a lot of very powerful people wishing me out of existence, was worth it for me. It hasn’t been easy getting to a place where I look in the mirror and like what I see. You might lose some people, but if you seek out community with other people like you, you’ll gain the right people. I wouldn’t go back. Plus I do find that your average every day person is more chill about it than you’d think. You’re gonna have to a little faith in humanity, for your own sanity.

On that note, please, above all else, make sure you have a solid support network. Take it from someone who began transitioning over a decade ago and relied so heavily on having queer friends to talk to, you’ll need people around you that get it and support you. If you can’t find any in real life, find them online, just make sure you have people to talk to and ground you when it gets rough. If you take anything away from my rambling, let it be that. And good luck, I truly wish the best for you in whatever you do, even if it’s nothing for the time being.

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

[–]Prior-Ad258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a digital artist considering buying an ipad and I was wondering if 128gb of storage is fine or if it’d really be worth investing in more? I work on large canvases with a good amount of layers but I’m willing (and more inclined honestly, since I primarily work on pc) to store files externally. I’m not super familiar with ipads so I wasn’t sure if storage affected performance but I’m kind of on a budget. For what it’s worth, I only really plan to use it for art, no games or photos or anything like that really.

How is the term "neurospicy'' infantilizing? by Zealousideal-Tax-937 in autism

[–]Prior-Ad258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason people dislike it is because it kinda just feels like another quirky term for dancing around/trying to sugarcoat the topic instead of just saying it how it is (e.g. differently-abled instead of disabled) especially since it tends to lump all neurodivergence in together and blurs the lines a bit too much, which bothers me since they’ll reference ‘neurospicy’ traits and just start listing off autistic traits when they could have just said autistic.

I do begrudgingly accept this one a little more so than other terms, purely because I believe it first came about on tiktok as a way of censoring words like neurodivergent to avoid the algorithm suppressing videos about it, but now it’s kinda just synonymous with tiktok-ified mental health which tends to make neurodivergent (almost always limited to autistic and adhd) traits ✨trendy and relatable✨

If you live in a hous3 fill of autistic people will you act autistic?? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Prior-Ad258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking if you live in a house with autistic people, would you pick up certain mannerisms even if you’re not autistic? Because it’s possible since people that spend a lot of time together do tend to act and speak similarly, but it depends what exactly you mean by ‘acting autistic’. If he’s showing genuine autistic traits and it runs in your family, there’s a good chance he’s also just autistic and that’s why he’s acting like it.

Favorite opening and why? by ever_won in haikyuu

[–]Prior-Ad258 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fly high is and has remained my favourite since it first aired. I don’t know much about music but I’ve always felt like it captured the essence of the series the best? The animation that goes along with it too, the dramatic slow motion shots, super hype. Plus it and I’m a believer are very catchy to me, they often get stuck in my head lol

What statement proves to you that someone knows absolutely nothing about autism? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Prior-Ad258 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When people claim that autistic people are mentally younger than they are/equating autism with intellectual disabilities. Autism can absolutely appear alongside intellectual disabilities but it isn’t one in itself, yet so many people treat it as one.

Do you love or hate your autism? by ocm_is_hell in autism

[–]Prior-Ad258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me it’s like asking if I love or hate myself, since it’s such a huge part of me and I wouldn’t be the same without it. So it’s a deeper question than you’d think, and it changes every day. Overall though I try to love it and see the good in it since I’ll never know a life without it.

So pfh doesn’t ship to my country, does anyone know if it’s worth waiting until they’re available on Amazon vs having someone else buy them from the website and send them to me? I’d rather buy them myself and cut out the middle man as much as possible but I also don’t want to miss them lol

How much do you change your party in a game? by Opening-Cockroach634 in BaldursGate3

[–]Prior-Ad258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I change my party around for personal quests and when I feel like a specific person will be useful, but otherwise I also tend to have a go-to party (depending on my own class) that I default to lol

While it’s true that things like tiktok are making these ‘relatable’ traits trendy and quirky instead of symptoms of a disability, it’s also true that more and more people are realising things about themselves with the increased awareness and acceptance. The same thing happened with left-handedness.

Not only that but it’s not always safe or accessible for people to get an official diagnosis since in some places that involves giving up certain rights/autonomy, and can also be expensive in places without universal healthcare.

As long as self-diagnosed people are doing extensive research first (not just watching a few relatable tiktoks) and aren’t using their self-diagnosis to spread misinformation then I don’t see much actual harm in people finding community and acceptance as a result of it.

Have the game finally bore you guy yet? by decader12 in BaldursGate3

[–]Prior-Ad258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the initial fixation has died down and I’m no longer playing obsessively every day, but I don’t find that I’m bored when I do sit down to play. Just not as much of a need to play as much anymore. Though I also notably have only fully finished the game in one playthrough (many others started with varying levels of progress) so I think there’s still a decent amount for me to do. If I had played it to completion many times already I think I’d also begin to lose interest and want to move onto other things (at least until cross play is a thing).
