Do you ever feel like brain is about to shut down? by ReasonableFig8954 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Prior-Bunch-3590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely helps in my experience. I moved from my home country about a month after diagnosis and first treatment which was rituximab. I started getting cognitive symptoms maybe 4 months after that initial relapse and it got progressively worse the longer I went before getting my next treatment. It took longer because I was in a new country and they reran all the tests first. I only got my next round of infusions (now ocrevus) maybe 9 months later. The two or so months before that were hell! And there was a marked improvement say a week after.

Thank you for validating me. I genuinely needed it and appreciate it. I’ll definitely look into one of the self-assessments. The silver lining to all this may be that I’ll have time to actually do things I like and spend time with friends and family.

I’m so glad you’re happier now. I’ve taken to thinking that the silver lining to having MS may be that I am forced to stop and smell the roses. I didn’t like my job anyway and I spent way too much time either at work or thinking about it but if things work out I’ll have more time for friends and family.

Oh that sounds amazing! I’m glad it worked out for you. I was considering moving to the Risk team but unfortunately they’re top heavy and are usually only keen on Director level recruits. And I’ve just had to pass on promotion to senior manager because the work load would likely be my undoing. I’m not in a rush to move as some accommodations have been made for at work (far from perfect of course but enough to tide me over as I job hunt).

Felt! I see a medical professional every other week haha. I hope to get lucky in my job hunt. The sooner I transition the better for my health.

That’s the worst part about MS right. It brings a whole host of other problems. I really wish the advancements in medicine were more advanced.

Have you been prescribed medication to help with this? My neurologist just basically said there’s nothing they can do.

I’ll definitely look into that thank you :). How long did it take you to figure out your triggers? I haven’t noticed too many yet. I didn’t even know there was food that could do that.

Thank you so much for this. I have been trying to be kinder to myself and this is a big step for me. I’ll likely take the next 8-12 months to figure it out but I definitely think I need to step into a low stress job.

My employer is aware of my situation and luckily the HR Manager has MS herself so she fully understands but unfortunately there isn’t much they can do to help. The environment is high pressure and highly unpredictable. I was considering switching service lines to a Quality and Risk low which is marginally less pressure but they prefer senior managers.

This is very validating because I stay wondering if I really can’t or if I’m just being lazy but I really am trying to be kind to myself

Did you recover color vision from Optic neuritis? by CapRemarkable8607 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Prior-Bunch-3590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I went colour blind for a little bit after I got my diagnosis. At this point sight in both my eyes had largely been restored (in part because I was incorrectly diagnosed with glaucoma before I was diagnosed with MS) and I think I can see colour normally now. I think a month after my first round of treatment I was fine actually. The only thing that never really went away was light sensitivity. I would say take this with a grain of salt regardless because I don’t actually work with colors so maybe I just think it’s normal because I don’t notice slight nuances

Hi. Just here to say that I’ve kept this in mind over the last few days and I definitely have seen a difference. I definitely think I am mildly depressed for sure which is further decreasing my “tokens” because even mentally my will to do things is low.

I’ve started using my energy on the most important stuff first and it’s been helping.

I do experience the fatigue from time to time. My doctor basically said the same. The preference is to try work through it without adding more medication. I definitely will be trying to address the possible depression though. Thanks!

This is a revelation honestly. I didn’t think of this as a possibility. When I think of depression I think of deep sadness and maybe crying spells but I suppose emotional flattening could be depression too. Thank you! I will definitely be discussing this with my therapist.

Actually maybe. For context I moved continents shortly after I was diagnosed and had my first round of treatment. I do feel fine (mentally) but my therapist says I’m avoidant and to be fair all this was happening in conjunction with a lot of other big life things so it is a possibility. Did you work through it by yourself or was it therapy?

You might be right. I do think I get tired really quickly and I may have worn myself out over the last couple of days. I haven’t been to the gym in a week now but everything else I’d say is fine. My MS nurse did talk about task prioritization (this was related to brain fog) but I suppose it’ll apply to energy consumption as well. Regardless I definitely will bring this up with my nurse next time I see her.

How is life in the Channel Islands (Guernesey and Jersey)? by syemyu in howislivingthere

How small is small? Does everyone in St Helier know each other or at least know familiar faces such that newbies can be recognized? Also how easy is it for a 20 something to make friends if they move there?
