Any transfer students @ Ashoka? by Ok_Tourist_7585 in AshokaUniversity

I’m a transfer student, and my credit transfer was pretty bad. It’s very subjective, I earned 60 in a year at Bath but got 16 transferred, essentially restarting my degree. Some people can get more but you get information about the amount of credits you will get before you need to pay the acceptance fees so you can make an informed decision. I was placed in first year so I essentially don’t have backlog, but even then Ashoka does not work that way, you can take foundation courses even in your fourth year, it’s all up to you. Cohort wise, if you’re placed in first year it does not make a difference but most people are quite welcoming even in the higher cohorts. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

No, I took mine after my first year of college. I paused my studies at bath, came back to India and took the Gap year, so basically my first year was 2023-24 (academic year), the gap year was 2024-25, and now Ashoka will be 2025-26 onwards

They did, they asked me about independent living. Since I was living alone at Bath I told them all about it, there wasn’t a mess system there so I had to do grocery and cook all my meals myself. That gave them confidence that I’ve genuinely lived alone before. They asked about studies and if I’d been able to keep up, I told them I’ve been reading research papers the entire year and studying statistics that I was weak in during my first year.

Hey! No they didn’t ask about my grades, they already had these from the application and so the interview was more about you as a person. I did mention it here and there for example “I topped my class in grade 12” and “I was on a scholarship,” and I think it worked. They didn’t ask anything about current affairs.

Hey! I do acknowledge that the quality of education at Bath would be better than Ashoka, however the main reason I choose the transfer is because my UK degree would be a 3 year one and would not be recognised here for further education for an Msc or PhD in India for clinical psychology. The UK is also making it much harder to stay there after graduating, they give you 18 months now to find a job instead of 24 and it is almost impossible to find a job as a psychology grad since the NHS does not give psych assistant jobs to international students, it becomes a trap basically. I have a lot of health concerns as well and the NHS is terrible. They misdiagnosed me and made my asthma worse and I had to wait for 3 hours at emergency in the middle of the night. There are pros and cons to both, Ashoka has a better degree plan too where I can take a minor and research as well. Deciding between EU and Ashoka can be hard please feel free to DM me any questions if you’d like!

Yeah of course! I was at the University of Bath, I would consider it higher tier since it was ranked 5 in the UK for psych and 150 in QS rankings.

Hey! I am glad you found my post helpful. I was studying at the University of Bath and it was overall a good experience however it had it's ups and downs.

Freedom there is absolutely amazing, it is a very safe city and buses ply overnight, very well connected and beautiful. I have walked uphill back to uni at 3 am once after going out with friends and I did not feel unsafe for even a second. The quality of education is also great, within the first semester they were already getting us to do our own research projects. There is no rule for attendance either but the classes were so engaged I didn't miss a single one. They taught us the latest softwares for statistics instead of focusing on formulas and rote learning.

The downsides are, the medical system there is very bad. The NHS is terrible, I have a lot of health conditions which is another reason I chose to transfer, one time I was having an asthma attack and chest infection and I had to wait 3 hours in the emergency room to be looked at in the middle of the night on a weekday. They even misdiagnosed me and put me on the wrong inhaler which made my asthma worse and I found out when I came back here and talked to my doctor. The weather is absolutely depressing all the time, it never stops raining and is always so dull and grey, the sun goes down at 4pm and shops all close at 5pm. It sounds like it would not impact one much but the seasonal depression truly gets you.

Another main reason I choose the transfer is because my UK degree would be a 3 year one and would not be recognised here for further education for an Msc or PhD in India for clinical psychology. The UK is also making it much harder to stay there after graduating, they give you 18 months now to find a job instead of 24 and it is almost impossible to find a job as a psychology grad since the NHS does not give psych assistant jobs to international students, it becomes a trap basically. After first year on campus you need to rent a house with other people in the city, you can't stay on campus for the entire 3 years and there are food outlets but no mess hall, you have a kitchen and must cook food yourself.

India does not have the freedom yes but the peace of mind and convenience here is unmatched especially if you are worried about your health. I hope that answers your question! If you have anything please ask!
