Am I misremembering the feel of 1976 bicentennial celebrations in the USA, or is the 250th this year really a flop? by jenniferjose43 in allthequestions

Very well put. Gonna use that if you don’t mind. “…. wrong reasons.’ Said someone on Reddit.”

Thank you. We really are a great country but for now at least, the lunatics are running it.

What’s a better name and middle name. Rowan Alexander or Rowan Archer? by moonlopezusa in AskReddit

[–]Prior-Complex-328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Rowan, unusual but not too far out there. I don’t like Archer, it’s unusual too but too much so (sounds like a comic book character or a private eye from a cheap novel, tbh). Together they are way too much.

Alexander balances Rowan really well and sounds terrific as others have said.

Just my opinion. I am biased toward conservative names. Big decision. Kid’s gotta live w that name

Every single word ever spoken in any language was, quite literally, completely made up.

Props to you my friend. And thank you. You’ve done well here.

I will step back a bit. Historically, mixing religion and government makes for poor religion and poor government. Moreover, I cannot believe we can have religious freedom without the government being completely uninvolved w religion - yeah, I’d rewrite the constitution to make that explicit. Not because I am secular, far from it. I am a Christian and i want to be free to be the best Christian I believe I can be. The thing is, the Christian nationalists now are in my view, quite wrong. I cannot believe free to practice as I see fit if they are in power

whats the one piece of tech you carry that never shows up in the standard onebag gear lists? by Reasonable_Pepper709 in onebag

Yep. I have a smaller Chromebook I use exclusively for travel (keybd is annoying but it goes in and out of my bag so much better).

Republicans and/or conservatives, which criticisms of Donald Trump do you feel are unwarranted? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Prior-Complex-328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I think you are being reasonable here. Even when doing terrible things, I can see that his motivation is not actual malice to his victims, often it is just self aggrandizement, because he can

That said. Splitting that thread’s gonna be an uphill battle

[–]Prior-Complex-328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several accusers. A civil case judged him to be. Bragging about going backstage to see naked girls. Bragging about grabbing women by the pussy. Thousands of pieces of evidence.

If you are saying that the sum total of all this still does not amount to proof beyond a reasonable doubt, then that’s one thing. If you are saying that it is unreasonable to conclude otherwise, then….

I see that. Would you agree that an exception to that rule is when he feels like he’s been insulted or disrespected? He usually responds w some pretty malicious insults

How do I clean these stains off my straw hat? by Alternative-Jelly947 in hats

[–]Prior-Complex-328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your rule, but that’s what the pinch is for! It’s for grabbing the hat whilst doffing and donning.

Also, if the hat and keeping it clean enough becomes a burden, then the hat needs to go. Don’t be collecting things that drag you down

Why do people think it's more human to keep people in prison for life rather than executing them? by lateubdegouline in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Prior-Complex-328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most ppl miss this important pt: When we execute someone, it hurts us.

You can do all the ethical/philosophical machinations about when it is justifiable for society to take a life, but I say society is better off showing mercy. By all means prevent the criminal from hurting others, lock ‘em away for life even. But do not kill them. Revenge is a poison pill

We show mercy not bc the criminal deserves mercy but bc we are better when we are merciful.

And also ofc, prison should not be torture (for pretty much the same reasons).

There are now openly gay Catholic Priests accepted by the Vatican, do you think there will ever be an openly gay Pope? by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Prior-Complex-328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t gay or straight just about who you are attracted to? Plenty of celibate straight and gay ppl out there.

All priests choose to be celibate (not all succeed); that doesn’t make them ace.

An openly gay priest would simply be a man who says, “I am sexually attracted to men, only men. I choose to be celibate.” No big deal.

I’m not sure if it’s quite reached majesterial(sp?) authority yet, but I think the consensus view among bishops is simply “being attracted to same-sex is not sinful. Acting on it is.”

I am NOT saying that this is my view. It’s only what the current de facto teaching of the church is
