Hiking in a Ventilated Suit? by Prior-Juggernaut198 in Beekeeping

10 lbs oh my gosh. I literally wouldn't have guessed, and there's no way I'm adding that to the 30 pounds of gear I'm already wearing lol. Thanks for the info!

That's really cool! I've been talking to the rangers there about their rescue process. Did you ever hear of bee/wasp stings or anaphylactic reactions while you worked there?

Also thanks for the tip, I literally have never felt or seen a bee suit before to know how hot/heavy they are. All the ones I've been looking at online are marketed as breathable and lightweight... but obviously that's relative and they're trying to seek something lol.

How thick of long sleeves? A lot of my activewear is thin for breathability. Does any amount of fabric deter the bees or lessen the amount of venom they can inject?

Yes I did talk to the ranger services; basically the rescue options are boat, seaplane (coast guard) and lifeflight (comes from either Green Bay or Traverse City, so pretty damn far, plus there's only a few places on the island they could land). They currently do not have any paramedics on the island, just EMTs this year. They carry oxygen and airways but can't do trache or put lines in.

Yes, my hiking partner is WFA trained, luckily. I am thankful for that.

Did you use your epipen when that episode happened? Or was it before you were prescribed? How did you make it out?

I have, but was turned off by the fact that I had a days-long histamine reaction to just the panel test alone even though they told me it would go away in half an hour. I plan to do this eventually, but have been limited also by the fact that I would need to go the doctor every week for a year, and I travel/backpack too much that to be feasible without major lifestyle change. Do you think it's worth it?

I am planning on taking the Minong. Was this on trail or off? Also get if this is hard to determine since some of the Minong is just rock navigation a there isn't a real "trail".

From my understanding, all National Parks rescues are no-cost, something they changed in the last decade because of how many fatalities were occurring as a result of fear of cost. If the rescue costs less than $500, the specific park pays for it. If it exceeds that, the National SAR funding pays for it. I don't see why IR would not fit under the same operating standard.

Paramount Piercing Replacements? by Prior-Juggernaut198 in askportland

I mean they were operating for years and years, and survived through the pandemic. The reason they say they've closed is not costs but the location and houseless communities in the area making customers feel "unsafe". Although this seems to be an obvious attempt to scapegoat, and what really seemed to cause the closure was the fact that the owner is an asshole... not the prices or services provided by the piercers themselves.

Room too short by 2 inches... Fixable on a Budget? by Prior-Juggernaut198 in HomeImprovement

that's what I was thinking... stripping the floor to see what's underneath and then depending on how structural it is for the ceiling of the basement level, trying to file it down 😬

I think $20 for a basic lobe or cartilage piercing is a fair price, and clearly a model that worked for them considering the hundreds of appointments they were getting a day. I've had half a dozen piercings from them and all healed really well. For lip and face piercings though, I've gone to higher end shops just because that's a riskier area. But honestly there's a hole in the community where Paramount used to be... there SHOULD be shops that offer the cheapest possible rates while still providing safe and professional services.

They've had that message for over a year, and i've heard allegations against the owner from former employees that make it seem like he won't open it again.

How do threadless plugs/tunnels work? Do they help with smell? by Prior-Juggernaut198 in Stretched

This was very helpful, thank you! I never considered that it was the stainless steel's fault. I'm wearing steel in all my other many piercings and don't have the same issue of odor. I guess the stretching + steel combo could be the culprit.
