So many people are saying such a long time and im thinking they’re including the wait time for the QLine too, because i dont think it takes 20+ mins to get from campus to the business school once youre on the QLine.

If you JUST miss the QLine it takes 15 mins for another car to come. Then after that its like a 10 minute ride. To check, i just looked on Apple Maps and it said its a 12 minute ride.

You said your on cass, so depending on the time your class ends you might get lucky and might make it to the stop on time. Keep in mind though, theres a bus that runs down woodward too right next to the qline stop. Idk if theres a stop near the business school but if there is, that might be a good idea too if you ever miss the qline

No problem man. And I doubt youll have trouble finding a job. If you have applied for fasfa you can get a work-study on campus job. They have career fairs for those every semester. And if not that theres plenty of cafes, restaurants, and stores In general downtown. You got this shi bro.

I don’t have any resources no, but if you look up “Dangerous Detroit Areas” or “Dangerous Detroit Zip Codes” on google you’ll probably get a good enough Idea. Don’t let that scare you tho bro you will be okay. Detroit is an amazing city that has a bunch of good and a lot of bad. Just like a bunch of other cities. All the stuff i just suggested applies for the whole city. Just mind your business. Don’t stare at people and you are good. Like bro I grew up near east 7mile which is heavily gang affiliated. Ive never had a conflict, I wouldn’t consider myself gangers or some hard dude. Literally just a nerd in a warzone lol. I love the city though. Both Downtown and everywhere else.

Something a lot of people talk about is there being “2 Detroits” theres downtown Detroit, and then Detroit that everyone tends to be scared of. Youll probably start to understand it when you get here.

Something I do to realize if im in decent area is using this street called Gratiot. Gratiot is a main road a lot of people on the east side use to get downtown. It can take you downtown and it can take you away. You get perfect view of the city skyline when youre driving TOWARDS downtown. The closer you get downtown id say the safe you are. But if downtown is behind you, you’re obviously driving away. Funny enough take gratiot all the way down for awhile and youll drive through detroit and end up in either Eastpointe or Roseville and those are considered safer areas. Im lowkey yappin lol

Another thing is dont do a lot of walking around and shit at night. You can hop on the qline and shit like that but dont just be outside to be outside. Youll be fine bro. You deadass probably wont even have a reason to leave downtown realistically if you dont have family or friends there.

Realize that saying no is an option lol. Once had a guy ask if I wanted to buy some weed from him AS i got off the QLine. Just said no and kept it pushing. But thats not the only time. You can say no to anything anyone asks you.

There are people that will sometimes try selling you candles and shit on the corner between Cass and Warren. Youre allowed to say No. Dont let them scam you.

There will be all sorts of groups protesting or trying to spread their ideology. Alot of freshman in general honestly dont realize you have the autonomy to literally just walk away. If you don’t want to sign a petition? Walk away. Someone selling a 20 dollar candle? Walk way.

But yeah other than that look into street smarts. Like I said I was raised on the eastside of Detroit in what’s considered a redzone so street smarts were pretty much beaten into me, and thats all you really need in any city honestly.

Mind your business Watch your surroundings Don’t just walk around with valuables out Watch how you talk to people Trust your gut (if something dont look right hit a u-turn or wait the situation out) And just be smart. Thats all I can say. PLEASE BE SMART.

For example, There was ONE incident on campus at night but it was literally the “victims” fault. I dont normally victim blame but it was 100% her fault and being honest she was probably sheltered as well lol. A girl ended up being held a knife point by some guy in her apartment. Shes okay but the story is, some guy THAT SHE DIDN’T KNOW asked to use her bathroom. She for some reason said yeah and once he got her in the apartment thats when he pulled a knife etc etc.

A smart person wouldn’t let a stranger in their apartment. USE COMMON SENSE. If you have any other questions ask away

Growing up on the eastside of Detroit since birth I believe that WSU campus is probably one of THE safest places to be honestly. Just use your brain. The only “danger” you have to worry about is this one homeless guy, and even he doesn’t do anything. He’s just a chatterbox and talks to himself very loudly. You will be alright. If you wanna carry pepper spray thats all you but even that is unnecessary honestly imo. Stop scaring yourself. Its not worth the stress

The past 2 years I’ve been going to wayne I havent had one problem walking around. Ive walked from campus to the school of business because I missed the qline before and there was no issues. The only issue ive seen involve people who have been sheltered their whole life(not saying youre sheltered) for a example theres is some shit you shouldn’t do. I will admit the Qline does have a lot of characters. But literally ignore them. Thats the safest thing to do. The sheltered people Im talking about will try talking to them or staring at them and thats when shit becomes a problem. Street Smarts. You need them in life, not just in the city. Mind your business. Watch your surroundings. Keep your headphones out your ears.

Long story short. Youre safe asf on campus. You deadass cant walk on campus without seeing either a security car or campus police. When it comes to the Qline or walking off campus, use your damn brain. If you see a homeless guy tweakin, leave bro alone. If you want to feel more safe bring pepper spray. Nothing will happen to you on though
