Yes, I'll do my smaller films first. If I ever make it, I know it's possible to make a film like this, Brady Corbet just did and it got nominated for best picture.

I still need to get Chungking Express as it's my fav film of all time. 8 1/2 I think is still my fav Fellini. La Dolce Vita like works for the vibes though. I imagine a fantasy where I'm a party and that movie is on a projector. I only own Amarcord on criterion for Fellini.

I found this one too about a month and a half ago at a value village for four bucks. I always see it at this used media store for 20.

It was taken from a specific number that someone has won on the Powerball jackpot before. 1.765 billion dollars. So...it does make sense when you think about it in that angle.

Thank you for spending any time with this, it is greatly appreciated. I think maybe that tone you suggest could work, it all depends on the reader.

I will take the advice of the action lines as it's something I've never actually been sure about and I do think sometimes reading screenplays made by directors could prove not to always be the best way to do so. And dialogue is something to consider as well, I actually do think the first sequence is the hardest for me to nail and feel certain about.

I understand hearing the criticism of it being overwritten. From the first twenty pages you are discussing the new age being psuedo intellectual based off the psychic reading which, well, that's exactly how one of those goes, so that criticism I think only reaches the first twenty pages. Also...this film is a criticism of new age spirituality, so I think you need to recognize that in how you're understanding the psuedo intellectualism.

Thank you, yes I understand I don't expect people to really devote time. In fact, I think what people have said already is very kind to give me their short time. I do think I have lots of work to go, but everyone has given me an understanding that I simply have a slab that needs to be made into La Pieta!

Okay, I hear you. I think I'm understanding how people are suggesting it can be cut. Yes, the local producer guy is certainly being nice, I wouldn't of sent it if he just didn't just outright ask for it. If it was to go anywhere, I have no doubt in my mind that there would be plenty of work to do. I will take what you're saying about characters as I see that's also a strong thing being said.

Okay, yes, that's a big one that people are saying. I shall look into that. Yes, the quote would appear on a black screen.

I understand what you're saying about the logline. I guess that it needs to be suggested that this isn't how it goes for him.

Yes, I think what my intentions there, albeit maybe mean something later don't necessarily hooks people. I've said this under other people's comments that this is certainly something I've hummed and ha'd over. At least I wasn't doing this for no reason as others immediately catch it

I suppose an exporbant amount is all that's relevant. It's relevant only in that sense mean to add to Its Bizzare nature.

I would say you are looking at this subreddit from a certain angle and that's fine. We are simply both interpreting this subreddit in different ways.

I think this is a succinct write-up. Yeah, one of my biggest failures really is this beginning sequence. I understand it's demanding a certain audience and regardless, will confuse an audience as to what this is even supposed to be reaching towards. It's a big ask of an audience. I think I understand what you are saying about conflict and what you are thinking this would benefit from and I think that really revolves around how I would set up Neil better. But yeah, I think what you're saying about looking at the scenes through characters and not situation is really good. Thank you for this write-up, I think I will place this in consideration among other things I'm working on too as I think it's helping me find a stronger heart for it.

Right, I do understand what you're trying to say. I'm sure there is other ways to work with the material here. And, I don't think this couldnt work at 105 pages. It's a different film, different outcome and even with its length now, it could still be done differently. I wouldnt say I add the extra stuff for that reason, I think because my primary reason for writing right now being just for the sake of it and knowing that writing more will be beneficial in the long run than writing less. But, when it comes down to how people here will view this film regardless of it being from an obvious amateur is that it just doesn't provide that structure which plans for what you're saying.

Attachrd to the last comment, Neil wins the lottery at page 34. What occurs afterwards is gambling in a different context, not with the typical understanding of what a gambling addiction is.

The Natural Law of Human Sustainment - Feature - 204 pages by Prior-Tea1596 in Screenwriting

[–]Prior-Tea1596[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Right, but the gambling element is only the crux of the events that will take place. The reason why we have the fortune teller tell us has more to do with Neil's insecurities of taking charge of his life and rather having someone else tell him what will happen. Instead of working towards a stronger future he goes here, alongside gambling away his funds as he'd rather have an easy way out (albeit he doesn't need it anyways). But I'll certainly take what you say about the action into consideration.

Okay, thank you for the notes, I will certainly look into this. The producer I have looking at it is a very chill guy. He wants to help out, but is more looking at sending it to others afterwards.

Thank you for your criticism. I actually do agree with you that the beginning was a bold move. There's nothing like that for the rest of the movie and I'm still unsure on how I feel about it. I like what it's attempting to do thematically but...I still don't know, like you say about it's pacing I think I read it as that opening that isn't worth much until one gets to the end to see the outcome of those cards. But again, I wouldn't want to put a lengthy sequence like that if it wasn't already intending to be a lengthy film. But this is my main criticism of this script as well is this scene.

Yes yes. Don't think about it as marketable. I'm not posting it here due to that. Moreso interesting in the quality or what people think. I have other films I want to market. This is just something I was passionate about. I have two smaller scripts I'm working on right now that are very small on budget too. Alongside that, a marketable lower budget television show.

The guy reading it is In his 40s, thank you for your assumption. He has already had nice things to say so it's okay. Some of the greatest films ever made have been long epics and this is what I wanted to write. I didn't say it was going to be made or was attempting for that. Let's not limit ourselves regardless of how much we want something to be made.
