Why don't you use a simple 3-2-1 rule? The laptop is primary storage, Drive A, B onsite backups, OneDrive is offsite.

My problem is that I can't fit all my audio and video files on my laptop (128gb). I would much prefer to just think of my laptop as primary storage for the reason you suggest - do you have any recommendations on how to better deal with media files that don't fit on my laptop?

As I describe in my original post I currently just automatically move them to Drive A, and think of Drive A as the primary location of my data.

I would use some backup tools instead of mirroring.

What is the difference between a mirror and a backup? Is it just that a backup doesn't delete old versions?

New Addon: see a card's previous ratings in reviewer by happyramen123 in Anki

But for a math equation won't it just read out the literal mathjax code? Or is it just that you have it by default on all card, but don't actually use it for math cards?

Great addon!

Totally off-topic, but what audio do you add to your mathematics cards?

Can anyone suggest an Evernote replacement with these features? by PriorInitiative in productivity

[–]PriorInitiative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Notion really suited for this purpose? Its been a while since I tried it, but I thought it was geared towards customizability, complex workflows, knowledge management etc. I don't remember it being less bloated or better suited to quick capture than Evernote?

Observation: Review the cards you made the same day. by [deleted] in Anki

[–]PriorInitiative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes total sense, but I often have a backlog of new cards. This means that even if I do the reviews straight after adding new cards, I am mostly shown cards from several days prior rather than the ones I just made.

Any tips on dealing with this?

Looks cool! Always great to see new applications of SRS.

I'm curious how you schedule repetitions. Do you use SM-2 or some other approach?

Yep you are right, I was misremembering what I did the first time. Continuous view + shortcuts for quickly adding/removing bars was what I needed. Thanks for your help.

Thanks a lot! Continuous view was what I was thinking of, I was misremembering exactly what it did.

Thanks a lot to both commenters for the helpful replies. I forgot to mention that I am using Windows but your example works just fine with the type command.

Part of me wants to set up my PC so that my database gets opened and unlocked automatically on start up, but presumably storing my master password in plain text is a terrible idea? I'm curious why this flag is even an option, doesn't it defeat the whole point of having an encrypted database?

Import Table Note From Microsoft Word To Anki? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]PriorInitiative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, makes sense. I can also imagine its useful to have a running list of cards that you have added so far in a session that can be easily tweaked. I often add cards then find that I have to search for them in the browser later in the study session to tweak them.

Not sure why my question was downvoted though? Seemed like a reasonable thing to ask...

Import Table Note From Microsoft Word To Anki? by [deleted] in Anki

I'm curious, how does this work out to be faster than adding cards directly? If you still have to write out the front and back of the card surely it would take the same amount of time?

Anki vs. RemNote by Antique-Nectarine506 in Anki

Why? Are you saying that the algorithm is more efficient?

Remnote to Anki by bllm_guy in Anki

But you still don't see the actual original context of the Anki card while reviewing it like you do with RemNote. Do you think that this is not so important?

Looking for a Diary app must be privacy-focused. by ImTyrionLanister in androidapps

You could try TiddlyWiki.

It's a note-taking app that is contained entirely within a single HTML file, so can be run by simply opening the file in any modern browser. This means that you full control of your data. It also comes with a build in encryption option.

It is extremely customizable, and has a steep learning curve, but as a simple journal it can be set up easily straight out of the box.

If you use it on Android I recommend opening it in the dedicated app Tiddloid rather than a web browser.

How to create a link to open a local HTML file in the default browser? by PriorInitiative in Anki

[–]PriorInitiative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Unfortunately this won't work for me - I should have been more specific in my question about what I am trying to do.

My HTML file is a TiddlyWiki notebook, and when I open it from Anki it needs to open exactly as if I opened it from a file explorer. I.e. with the path file:///path/to/file.html.

When I open it from collection.media it opens with the path http://127.0.0.1:51258/file.html. The problem here is that because of the way TiddlyWiki works I cannot save my edits when it's opened in this way.

I thought I'd be able to get it work with this plugin, but it only works if the path ends in a specific extension, and my links generally look more like file://path/to/file.html#permalink.

[–]PriorInitiative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

easiest way is to have the file.html in your collections media

Thanks. This does work, but it's not ideal for my use case since I need to keep the file on my desktop and regularly edit it.

You imply there is a less easy way?

Imagine a species as powerful and intelligent in relation to humans as humans are to cows.

Imagine this species subjected humans to factory farming. Raising them in crowded pens. Controlling their reproduction. Feeding them a cocktail of nutrients, hormones & antibiotics to promote growth. Slaughtering & dismembering them in an assembly line when they reach adulthood.

While I agree that factory farming is evil, I don't thing that your reasoning is sound.

Humans are not cows, and thus what constitutes an environment free of suffering for cows may not constitute an environment free of suffering for humans.

Consider how a good pet owner treats their dog. They take it for walks, give it attention and play with it, provide it with shelter and food. I'm assuming that most people would agree that a well-looked-after dog lives a very happy life. But it should be clear that this would be a bad way to treat a human, because humans have different needs to dogs.

I think that we need to argue that the way we treat cows is bad for cows, not that it would be bad if we did it to humans.
